|Space||1,500 sq. ft.|

The guest house is located in a small, seaside community not far from the Cape Kumakahi lighthouse, at the easternmost point of the Big Island. This is a rural area with beautiful flora . The house is a very comfortable, totally private, 2-story 1500 sq. ft. home with large lanais adjoining both the kitchen and the master bedroom on the 2nd floor. This is a park-like setting with 2 tidal ponds, many palm trees and tropical plantings. Your private tidal-controlled swimming pond (usually about 88 degrees Fahrenheit) with colorful reef fish is in front of the house and has a dock for relaxing and sunbathing. There are only 3 private ponds at rentals in vacationland which are deep enough for swimming. The kitchen lanai which overhangs our front pond is a favorite place for covered outdoor dining. Most quests take all their meals on the pond lanai.
It's a 3 minute walk to the best swimming entry into the famous Wai’ Opae fish preserve tidal ponds (about ½ mile long and several hundred feet wide) which offer the safest swimming and unrivaled scenic snorkeling in east Hawaii. The large interconnected ponds are separated from the open ocean by a reef and are always calm even when the sea beyond the reef is wild.
Accommodations: Warm Springs Guest House has a King sized bed in the master bedroom on the 2nd floor, 2 singles in one downstairs bedroom, and a single in the other downstairs bedroom. There are 2 full baths: 1 on the first floor and another adjoining the master bedroom on the 2nd floor.
Amenities: There is a table with folding umbrella on the dock and a picnic table on the kitchen lanai. The kitchen is fully equipped including, granite counter tops, refrigerator-freezer, large microwave oven (no stove oven), Jenn-Air radiant electric cooktop, coffee maker, coffee grinder, blender, a wide assortment of pots and pans, and an outdoor charcoal barbecue. There is a Wifi computer connection (see amenities) phone, satellite TV, DVD-CD player, and an AM-FM radio.
Linens including beach towels, all household supplies. A washer and dryer are also provided.
Activities: Swimming, snorkeling, skin diving, surfing, and a large public hot pond are all available nearby. Walking and bicycling around Kapoho are safe and pleasant. There are farmer's markets in Pahoa, on the road to Hilo, and in Hilo Town. Lava viewing is often possible from Kalapana (about 10 mi. from Kapoho) or in the National Park (depending on where the lava flows happen to be located at the time) and Volcanoes National Park has many hiking trails in both rain forest and desert environments. Sightseeing possibilities are nearly unlimited.
Beverly is a botanical artist specializing in endemic Hawaiian plant watercolors and tropical themed stained glass commission. My husband (Dallas) is a retired geophysical volcanologist and for many years was on the staff of the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory. We have lived in on the Big Island for more than 45 years.
Beverly purchased this house in 2000
We purchased this property for a family weekend retreat because it had the ambience one would expect from a home in the tropics on the coast ... not coldly functional but truly warm, inviting, and comfortable with wonderful ponds in a park-like environment.
Overall Rating : Outstanding

We spent an idyllic week in this island paradise. The guest house is quaint but has everything you need. The pond out front provided many hours of entertainment for our 12 yr. old and for ourselves. A 5 min. walk brings you to the tidal pools with some of the best snorkeling I've seen. We'll definitely be back. I think Kapoho is the best kept secret in the islands.
A special thank you to Beverly, Dallas and Trevor. Beverly & Dallas your house was a lovely get away from the hussle and busle of life. You can just enjoy life around the house or go out adventuring, whatever your energy level. The minnows in the pond out front give you a great natural foot or back message. The tidal pools which we were so busy we didn't really enjoy until two days before leaving were wonderful. You thought about amenities we were not expecting you to, which was a very nice addition to an already delightful vacation spot. We would recommend this house whole heartly. You really have the option to relax or sight see, adventure, swim with the sea turtle's at Black Beach, the volcano park, waterfalls, horseback riding, luai and much more.Trevor wanted to thank you for all your help and advice prior to reaching Hawaii, you were a great help to us. You answered any questions we had, and gave us direction where we needed it. Again a sincere thank you for a wonderful 11 day vacation in your home

We very much enjoyed our stay at Warm Springs. The house is quite striking inside and out and fits in very nicely on a large lot with several private tidal pools(fish and all). It was a pleasant and very comfortable base from which to explore Hawaii island. We made two trips to the Volcano Park(Don't miss it) which is an easy drive away. The ocean and larger tidal pools are a few minutes walk away from the house. The snorkeling was great with many different fish to enjoy. Dallas and Beverly were helpful and accommodating.
This was exactly the experience we were looking for after spending our first week on Waikiki Beach. Great fun!

This is a fantastic place to stay. Two blocks from the tide pools, peaceful and surrounded by lush grounds. Yes, there were cockroaches, three, who were antisocial and disappeared after the first night. Friendly gold dust day geckos to share the mornings on the upper deck watching the sunrise, and all the boys in the pond looking for handouts any time we were on the lower deck. Pele's Kitchen in Pahoa was a great place for breakfast, Paolo's bistro was interesting, but it's probably a place you need to try a few times to really understand. The first time we tried to go in for dinner the door was open but a server raced to meet us and tell us they were no longer accepting new seatings, at about 8:00. The second time we went earlier with our daughter and son in law, got seated and found out the don't serve wine, B.Y.O.B. only, but the waiter gave our daughter directions to the closest place that had wine and she made a last minute dash with 15 minutes to spare and came back with a white and red. My hearings not the best, and they didn't have menus, so when the waiter went through the entre's I was kind of in a fog (too bad he didn't have subtitles). The food is very good. The roads are fine, typical rural roads, not much traffic, we even could have picked up a fresh roadkill piggy for the grill but I thought they might frown on us butchering him back at the house so we left him there. The tide pools are amazing, a little different than other snorkeling sites, little interconnected pools with coral gardens. The lava ate my reef shoes the first time, pretty jagged stuff. The house is beautiful, clean and well stocked with utensils. This was one of the most relaxing places we've ever stayed. Would go back again in a heartbeat.
For those looking for a wonderful house in a laid back relaxing area, you would love this house. Two blocks from great snorkeling in the tidal pools, and near enough for sightseeing in Volcanoes Park, all things Hilo, and areas along the eastern coast.
I had broken my ankle just prior to heading to Hawaii, and did not attempt the spiral staircase for a couple of days, but it was not a problem with the deck and bedroom downstairs. The yard and tidal pool in the yard were relaxing and so wonderful to the point that I changed one days plans just to hang out at the house and yard and snorkel in our own private pool. When I did venture to upstairs found the master bedroom very roomy and comfortable and the breezes on the wrap-around deck fabulous!
There were a few cockroaches, but it is Hawaii and they live there. They just provided incentive for us to maintain good kitchen practices of all food items in fridge, and no dirty dishes left in sink; which everyone should do anyway. They are not a deterrent for me rating this wonderful house anything less than the excellent 5 star rating that it so deserves.
What a great place to stay. Close to the famous Tide Pools, just a 3 min walk for wonderful snorkeling. This nice house is surrounded by a huge garden withe trees and flowers and ponds in front and in back. It's great swimming in the warm pond in front of the house at high tide. Many fishes inside.
The house itself is great with wooden floors. We only used the master bedroom in second floor with his own bathroom and the nice lanai, overviewing the pond and listening to the sound of the ocean.
There is a bathroom and 2 bedrooms in the first floor too.
The kitchen was ok and we had breakfast everyday on the huge lanai watching the fishes in the pond do what fishes do :)
Beverly and Dallas, the owners are nice hosts and visited us.
The only point of criticism is that there is no dishwasher and very slow WIFI.
If you like peaceful living in paradise, far away from trouble, so choose Warm Springs Guest House!
The location of the house cannot be more perfect, from the pond right outside the lanai, the greenery all around the pond and the house, to the proximity down the block into larger ponds that lead to the ocean. Inside the house is also very pleasant because of the wood, high ceilings and the huge windows that allow you to see the foliage all around. We loved it!
East Hawaii has numerous scenic features less than an hours drive from Kapoho. These include swimming in thermal ponds, snorkeling in the Wai' Opae protected fish reserve, walking to an area of active lava flows from Kilauea volcano, visiting the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, a world class botanical garden, ocean front parks and beaches, scenic drives, a tsunami museum, Imiloa astronomy center, boat tours lava flows of lava flows entering ocean, hiking, etc.
