''Charming.'' ''What a delight!'' ''A complete relief after some others.'' ''Great taste!'' ''The best kept secret on island.'' Not even the locals know that this building used to be a firehouse and has a designer-decorated, quiet, residential 2 floor condo right in the middle of great restaurants, shopping and museums. Instead of a fire pole, you now have an atrium with light flooding through both floors, antiques and Audubon prints, a library with high-speed internet, open spaces for cooking, playing with kids, entertaining or reading a book.
The unit is centrally air conditioned with a commercial gas stove in the kitchen made for fabulous feasts. Showers are newly tiled with tumbled marble and all is meticulously maintained. At the top of the entrance staircase, you'll see the first floor of the two floor unit. The open kitchen and dining room are in front of you, the library on your left, and the living room straight ahead. The guest room and a full bath are to the right of the dining room. The entire second floor of the unit (top floor of the building) is the master bedroom and bathroom suite. Spacious closets and terry bath robes await you.
You can pretend that you're at work from your hi-speed computer and wi-fi office in the morning, then walk to the beaches and go across the street for a wonderful meal at a gourmet restaurant in the late afternoon. Come relax and refresh at ''Firehouse.''

I love Nantucket! Where else in the world can you find an amazing combination of beaches, history, great restaurants, sailing, fishing, museums and fun? I first fell in love with the island on a Fourth of July when we were the ONLY people on a perfect beach that we found by wandering down a sandy lane. My place is in downtown, so you don't even need a car. Cross the street for world class food, a glass of wine, or the world's best hamburger. Down the street is the Whaling Museum, shops, docks with boats you can wander by while eating a Juice Bar ice cream cone, and beaches. I love the sun in 'Firehouse,' poring down the atrium where the fire pole used to be. The master suite on the top floor is decadent with a fluffy comforter on the king bed, a sitting area, a newly marbled bath, and generous storage space. The twin bedroom on the main floor is perfect for another couple or for kids. Last weekend, we biked out to an old fishing village ('Sconset, circa 1674), then walked down an oyster shell path next to the Atlantic Ocean admiring the roses, the old cottages, the view, and inhaling the fresh, salt air. What a beautiful day and island. Come visit!
The Owner purchased this condo in 2004
The description above explains why I love Nantucket and why I particularly enjoy being downtown. It's so convenient to everything! I also love that no one else on the island even knows that this building used to be a firehouse, so it's a secret delight for the occupants.
There are only 3 condos in this property: two are retail on the first floor, and mine is the only residential unit. That means that the clothing stores close at 5:00pm, are quiet neighbors, and that you'll have the whole building to yourself with great privacy. It's a relaxing place with lots of choices.
We spent one week at the Firehouse with our two young children. This property is clean, has a fantastic location, and comes with beach accessories (chairs, toys, etc). We feel so lucky to have stayed here, and look forward to many happy returns. I highly recommend this property.
I have been coming to Nantucket for 30 years, and was thrilled to be able to rent the Firehouse condo. The location is perfect - walk out the door and you are in the heart of downtown. Everything is truly within walking distance - shopping, restaurants, beaches, etc. There's even a bakery directly across the street, as well.
The condo is located above a lovely retail shop on the second and third floor of the building. The unit is beautifully decorated, and has a nice layout. There were three of us staying there this time around, and there was ample room for us. I stayed in the master suite on the third floor, which has a super comfortable king sized bed, a TV, sitting area, laundry, and a large master bathroom. My friends stayed in the twin bed room on the main floor, which had a bathroom right outside their room. We all commented about how comfortable the beds were, and the living room was lovely, too, with comfy seating and a TV. We loved being able to cook meals in the kitchen when we weren't dining out, and eat in the dining room or on the little deck off the kitchen. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, a blender, taster, coffeemaker, etc. The bathrooms had plush towels, hairdryers, and robes for guests, too. Firehouse is bright with lots of windows and skylights. There was also a small office with a desk and router (wifi) and ample plugs for laptops, chargers, etc., which I found most useful since I had to do some work while I was there during the week. There is no need for a car here, but if you do need transportation, there's the WAVE (public bus), taxis, and UBER. We found ourselves walking everywhere, though - to the beach, great restaurants, out for coffee and cold-pressed juice, and we were even able to walk to the grocery store. I just left the island yesterday, and I am already dreaming about coming back. The owner and the management company were a pleasure to deal with. My friends and I LOVED staying here, and we will more than likely rent the Firehouse again, if it's available next year!
I have been renting for more than 40 yrs on Nantucket, the "Firehouse "was by far the nicest I have ever stayed in!
It is in the middle of downtown, you walk out your door and you have everything you need within 4 blocks, I will be
renting again next year. Highly recommended.
We were fortunate enough to stay at Firehouse for Thanksgiving weekend. This was our second time at the property, and it is amazing. It is located on the second and third floor of an in-town building, the perfect location for exploring the town on foot, and enjoying all that Nantucket has to offer. The apartment is very tastefully decorated, and has a comfortable layout that works well for four people. Our two teenaged children shared the bedroom on the main floor. There is a luxurious master suite on the top floor, which includes a very comfortable king sized bed, a TV and a sitting area, and a large master bath with a beautiful tiled shower, tub and laundry. The beds are very comfortable, the living room space is bright and comfy, with ample seating and a tv, and the dining room and kitchen are great. There are plenty of towels and even robes for the guests! There are lots of windows, wifi, books, games, and a den/office area that can be closed off for privacy. Firehouse is a gem! The owner is wonderful, easy to deal with, and very responsive. Can't wait to return :) You can walk to the property from the ferry, and there is no need for a car.
We stayed at the "Firehouse" this fall, and found it to be a fantastic property and the perfect location for exploring Nantucket Town. The apartment is well-appointed, with comfortable beds and lots of space. It is an easy walk from the ferry, and central to everything but still somewhat "tucked away". There was plenty of space for a family of four, and we look forward to returning soon.
We truly enjoyed our stay at the "Firehouse!" The location was perfect + property was nice + clean + beautifully decorated. We had a wonderful time exploring the island of Nantucket + look forward to visiting again next year. Many thanks!
