About Janine Dickinson

Jan Dickinson: I live in Sydney Australia. I have lived between Australia & Italy for twenty five years & I am delighted to share my knowledge of Italy in helping you with trip-planning & all aspects of your holidays, to make your trip special. This is part of our service at no extra charge.

Janine Dickinson purchased this apartment in 2000

Why Janine Dickinson chose Historic Center

My dear friend Josie & I bought this apartment in 2000 because we fell in love with Florence over many years & finally realised our dream to live a Florentine life. Over this time we have been thrilled to share the feeling of being a Florentine with our guests, who come back time & again. Some of our guests come every year & many truly feel it is theirs too.

What makes this apartment unique

Some of the things I love most about the apartment are: the sense of belonging - when the tourists go home at night the city is yours. I love being able to put my head out the bedroom window, look to the right & see Cosimo de Medici on his great charger, in Piazza della Signoria. I love Daniela's glorious fruit shop right at our door.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Jan,

We are back home after spending two wonderful weeks in your apartment. We had a great time in Florence. Thank you for all the useful information you provided to make our holiday so memorable.

We did so much in those two weeks. We went to the markets at Scandicci and met an Irish girl who owned the bottle shop. Had an interesting cooking class with Francesca that started at 9 am at the markets and finished at 5 pm.....very full and satisfied with the delicious meal we cooked and shared with her. Lots of eating in wonderful restaurants and our daily coffee and breakfast/lunch at ChiaroScuro in the Corso.

All in all a wonderful trip.

Thank you for providing our accommodation it was just what we wanted.

Hope to stay there again if ever we return to Florence.

Took a cab from train station per owner and was there in 10 minutes. Do this don't walk, way to confusing if you have never visited. Rang bell and Paulo ( I hope that is the right name) met us. He didn't speak much English, but with the little English he spoke and the little Italian I know we where able to communicate and he was able to show me everything and how it worked. He was refreshingly thorough and remembered everything to show us. Place is great, kitchen well stocked for cooking. Place is really big and has good windows so remains quiet even though there is a lot of street noise below. Bathroom is a little small but was no problem. Place is a little dark but it kind of ads to the charm. The location is unbelievable, go one way out the door and you are the Ufuzzi in less than 3 minutes, go the other direction and you hit the Duomo in 3 minutes. Great restaurants all over, markets just outside the door, I can't think of a better location. Owner is very attentive to anything you need before you arrive and is easy to contact ahead of time. I highly recommend this rental. You can not beat the value or location.

Wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Convivio is right in the heart of the historic part of the city and is a bit of living history, itself. Although Dante doubtless passed by the front door on numerous occasions, the interior amenities are modern and amazingly spacious, and it has everything you could possibly need including pots, pans, dishes, glassware and even a dishwasher. It is also very tastefully decorated - you feel as if you're staying in a renaissance palazzo.

Jan was extremely helpful and communicative from start to finish, and had great tips, such as going to the rooftop bar of the Renascente department store, for an afternoon aperitivo with a wonderful view of the city. Check in was also a breeze.

The apartment is a five minute (or less) walk to the Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, Piazza della Republica, and Uffizi Gallery. It's only slightly further (10 minutes or less) to the Ponte Vecchio and other sites. In short, you couldn't ask for a more convenient location. I can't recommend Convivio highly enough!

Convivio provides the perfect retreat each day!

  • 5 of 5

From the first moment that you make contact with Jan until you are greeted at the apartment by Paolo upon arrival and assisted by Rosemary with any local questions or needs...you are assured a great stay in Florence!

This is my second stay at Convivio and I hope to return again and again!

Jan always is there to answer any questions and she provides many helpful resources and suggestions all along the way.

The apartment is very clean, well-maintained, spacious, warm and inviting. Lots of special touches to make you feel at home! Each time you walk in the door, you have an "ah" moment!

It is a perfect location...everything within walking distance. Having Daniela's fresh fruit and vegetable market right outside our front door, a mini-market for staples a short half-block away, Perche No around the corner for the best gelato ever and Veranzano's for a morning cappucino and pastry is... "la dolce vita"!

The Duomo, Ufffizi and Ponte Vecchio are all short strolls away, as well as, places to indulge in some shopping. With the train station nearby, day trips to Venice, Lucca, Cinque Terre and more wonderful places are only a train ride away!

I look forward to my next visit to one of my favorite cities and staying at Convivio and... I have several family members and friends waiting to join me!

Perfectly located home away from home

  • 5 of 5

Long before we stepped in the door to Convivio apartment, we had already met Jan, the owner. She had enthusiastically answered our questions about out-of-the way places we might visit during our stay and was ever so prompt in all of her responses. The flat overall is huge and well located near the major tourist attractions. We were able to walk everywhere within the city and come back to our lovely home away from home. The bed was incredibly comfy and the kitchen was well stocked with cooking and serving dishes and a few of the basic cooking needs too. A grocery store was close at hand and who could pass by the fruit and vegetable stand directly across from the front door without stopping. While there are three flights of stairs to climb to the flat, there are no stairs inside. The bedroom window does face the street and while there are no cars allowed, there is some noise from passersby and the late night bar on the corner, so if you are sensitive to noise, packing earplugs might make sleep easier for you. One morning while showering with the window open, I was serenaded by an accordian player. A special way to greet the day. The sitting area is quite comfy and made a lovely spot to invite a friend to join us for an evening of sharing the day's events over wine and a light dinner. As I understand it, the guest book is being updated and as there is a lot of really useful information in it, I think it will benefit from a little organization for future guests. We appreciated having the clothes washer and it became a ritual to put in a load on the fast cycle, enjoy our breakfast and then hang things on the drying rack before heading out for the day. While there are plenty of modern conveniences, there is still the charm of a medieval building. After having a few telephone conversations with the local manager, I was sorry to have not had the opportunity to meet her in person. It's a very comfortable neighborhood, many restaurants a few steps away, shopping for something special to take home for yourself or as a gift, and of course, gelato on nearly every corner.

Florence Convivio Apartment

  • 3 of 5

The host was timely in communicating and setting up a time to gain access to the apartment. She was flexible with our final check out time because there was no one checking in the day we left. The apartment was clean and spacious except that the bathroom which was small. Also, the doorway to the bathroom had a low door frame. It was about 5 feet 10 or 11 inches tall. My husband is 6 feet and had an issue with the low door frame. The lighting in the apartment could use some improvement.

An amazing location in Florence with everything you would need.

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in Jan's apartment for just over a week in May 2017. Initially a little hard to find (very bad taxi driver) we were delighted to be welcomed to a very large, beautiful apartment that obviously is a home, well furnished and with every comfort of home required. This apartment is right in the heart of Florence, a few steps from Palazzo Vecchio, a 100 meters from Duomo etc. The most magnificent fruit and vege shop across the street and any number of restaurants, osteria and gellateria within a few minutes walk. We both stayed in for a few nights sampling the delights of the markets (full kitchen) but also enjoyed wandering the streets to choose a suitable dinner venue. Always coming 'home' to Convivio was a pleasant experience. All in all a wonderful place to stay enabling us to fall in love with Florence. One small annoyance was the noise from the pub across and down the street, kept us awake a couple of nights till the small hours.
