About Svein A. Berg

We are a family of five, currently living in Manhattan, New York. Olga is born in Ukraine and Svein is from Norway. Our three children Sebastian, Sophie and Ingrid keep us pretty busy.

Svein A. Berg purchased this house in 2005

Why Svein A. Berg chose St Paul

We bought this house in 2005 when we moved to St. Paul. The house was built in 1889, and has a character and charm that spoke to us. It is in a child friendly neighborhood, with a huge park just and a public tennis court across the street. Mississippi Market, our local Coop with local and organic produce, is just a two minutes walk away.

What makes this house unique

The house has character, and a great floor plan for having friends over.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Your house was terrific, and again, big thank you for renting it to us. We had some family over and they all commented on what a great house you have, very cozy and Christmas-like.

Comfortable Older Home with Character

  • 4 of 5

A couple & 2 singles, all family members, shared this house while in town for a family reunion. The house is located in a lovely neighborhood which invites you to take walks & explore. The house has lots of character with original creaky wooden floors and antique furniture, but the bathrooms are remodeled, bright and functional with lovely thick towels. The beds are comfy. It worked well for us, whether we were sharing breakfast of bagels, coffee and fruit from Mississippi Market right down the block around the huge dining room table and planning our day or relaxing on the charming patio in the afternoon sunshine or, our favorite, lounging in the living room with a glass of wine and sharing details of the day in the evening. We did struggle with getting the TV to work & better step by step instructions would be helpful & we did not get a response when we called with questions, (it was during the Vikings/Green Bay football game-so understandable, I guess). However, the owners were very responsive to all my pre-visit questions. We did minimal cooking, but the kitchen appeared stocked with most necessary equipment. . .a couple smaller paring knives would be a nice addition, there were plenty of larger knives. We enjoyed visiting The Muddy Pig right down the street, the Happy Gnome and WA Frost restaurant all walking distance on a lovely fall evening or afternoon. We really felt sharing this charming house in this excellent location made our family visit especially memorable.

Lovely house for a family event!

  • 5 of 5

Our recent stay was for the wedding of one of our daughters. It was very convenient for St. Paul and also for the wedding in downtown Minneapolis. There were six of us and we were very comfortable there. We had fun walking to the market and other shops and restaurants as other people have also commented, and enjoyed the beautiful scenery and Victorian houses that were just a short walk away.

The kitchen was large and very well equipped, and would be great for a holiday stay including lots of cooking, and also a nice large dining room, and pleasant patio.

The Berg House is perfect, it has every amenity you could ask for and the location is phenomenal, just steps away from great bars and restaurants. The house was spotless and very easy to access. Hoping to stay here again at some point!

We loved our stay at the Berg House! It's in a fantastic neighborhood and so close to everything!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time in MN and were here for a week long swim meet at the University of MN. The location of the Berg House was perfect, such an easy drive to the University but also so close to down town St. Paul and Minneapolis. We loved being in such a great neighborhood! It was easy to walk to coffee, ice cream, the co op market, etc. The home was so comfortable! Great beds, towels, and well appointed kitchen. The owner, Svein was excellent to work with and was so kind to accommodate us with early check in and late check out. If we have the opportunity to return we will definitely stay here again!

Adele in St. Paul

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the Berg House in July. We found we were close to everything - and surprisingly close to the Xcel Energy Center for our concert. The house was nice and tidy upon our arrival and the rooms were very comfortable. Very nice amenities - the shower was great.

There was so much to do and see, we wish we'd stayed longer - especially with the Berg House as such a great home base. We appreciated the great communication from Svein as well as the tips on things to see and do.
