THE MOOSEHEAD CABIN is the perfect place to get-away with friends and family. Nestled on the north shore of a beautiful, quiet lake, with 10 private acres of surrounding meadows, forests, wetlands and beautiful views, you will feel like you are at your own private resort—yet it's only a short 90 minute drive from Seattle.

Our clean, comfortable, and luxurious home has everything you need for a relaxing and fun get-away. Whether you spend your time inside, or outside, everything is here!

The outdoor hot tub is just steps from the front door and open year round. The heated pool is open from May to September. A spacious wrap-around deck is the perfect place to watch the eagles sore over the lake, or enjoy outdoor dining at a table that seats up to 12 people.

A short path through the trees leads to a private 60' dock, with a rowboat, kayaks and a canoe for guests to enjoy on the lake....or bring your own motor boat or jet ski to enjoy on a lake that is never busy! The kids will have fun on the play structure, at the full size volley ball net, or playing catch in the meadow. At night, gather around the outdoor fire-pit next to the lake for smores under the stars—or on cold days, gather in the great room, with a roaring fire in the giant stone fireplace (under the moose) to play games, watch a movie, or read a book. Plenty of all 3 are provided.

Up the road 1/4 mile is one of Washington's best kept secrets—Penrose State Park—with wonderful salt water beaches on Puget Sound, and easy hiking trails through the woods, with spectacular views of Mt. Rainier at the end of the trail.

Lakebay Marina is also down the road, and is the 'happening place' during the summer with beer tastings, ice cream, and paddle board rentals. It's also a great way to visit by boat, and short term moorage is available.

Come discover a little slice of paradise at THE MOOSEHEAD CABIN.

About Rebecca Schellings

Hello from The Schellings. Our family of 5 enjoys traveling and lots of activities. Since we have 3 boys, spending time outdoors is a MUST. That's why we love spending time at the Moosehead!

We built The Moosehead Cabin 2000. We wanted a place we could get to easily from Seattle (less than 2 hours), and had lots of space for our boys to run. We also wanted to be on a lake where we could enjoy activities like water skiing, fishing, and canoeing.

When we stumbled on on Bay Lake, we knew we had found the place. Steve was nicknamed 'moose' throughout his school years, so we thought it would be fun to build a mini-lodge with a moose as the centerpiece. And so it began.

The Moosehead Cabin has been a labor of love, and we enjoy every minute we're there. We hope you do to.

Rebecca Schellings purchased this lodge in 2000

Why Rebecca Schellings chose Puget Sound

Close to Seattle. Lots of privacy. Lake allows motorized boats. Great Southern exposure with lots of sun.

Good restaurants and shopping in charming Gig Harbor.

What makes this lodge unique

PRIVACY!! When we looked at other 'destination' places, most of the houses were all close together. We love the fact that no one sees us on our property, and we feel like we're miles away...yet really not at all!

We never wanted to leave

  • 5 of 5

Our family of seven RV'd it the whole way from Minnesota to this beautiful cabin in Washington. My family thought it was silly for a family from the land of 10,000 lakes to rent a house on a lake, but once they were there, they never wanted to leave. Ages ran from 13-20 and two adults, and they loved swimming early in the morning and late at night when we got home from the daily sightseeing. Seriously the only thing you need to bring to this cabin is your clothes and some food, they have everything else that you could ever think about needing. Tons of plates, silverware, pots and pans, dish cloths, towels, shampoo, books, games, even blackberries! We had so much fun and all agreed that this was the nicest rental we have done so far, it is our fourth. If I could have picked up this entire property and moved it to Northern Minnesota, I would never leave. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us and all the other families.

Perfect Place to Go!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with another family and we had to BEST time! If you go, stay for a week - we had 3 days and 4 nights and it simply wasn't enough time!

The home is perfect! Each couple had their own room with king size beds and all the kids had their own beds in their own room! Each bedroom has its own TV and DVD player and a ceiling fan to keep it cool. The living room is comfy - TV, games, books.

The porch is amazing! We ate our dinners on the deck each night. BBQ'd each night. The amazing! Best thing about the place! The kids swam literally for hours each day!

We used the fire pit and spent lots of time on the dock - kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding! We never even got around the using the volleyball or ping pong! Again, you need at least a week here!!!

The only thing I would have wished I'd known: the lake is full of bushes! The home in located on the shallow end of the lake and I'd say 1/2 of the lake we could see these bushes! SO, no swimming for us (thankfully the pool covers that problem). The lake is pretty and it did grow on us - but the first 2 days, we packed up the kayaks we brought and headed down to the marina to kayak in the Puget Sound. AMAZING! We did finally enjoy our time on the lake, but the lake itself was our least favorite thing. However, looking at the lake from the house is awesome!

At night - tons of bats come out of these bat boxes. FREAKY. The bats didn't come at us, but flew very low around us each night at the fire pit. If you don't like bats, beware! Also, frogs galore! Very noisy at night - fun to listen to!

We star gazed each night and even took the canoe out on the lake late at night in the pitch dark. Super cool.

We would love to come back - but not for any less than a week! It is super secluded and the lake rarely has anyone else on it. We will never forget our time there. Great memories!

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

We want to schedule next year's vacation now because we had so much fun! We used the new SUP to go across the lake on a warm sunny afternoon. This morning we canoed around the lake while the morning fog lifted. We swam for hours each day with the grand children. We made s'mores at the campfire and watched the 🦇 flit around. Loved the 🐸 family along the dock. The house was well equipped with everything we needed. The beds were warm and comfortable. It's a perfect family get away location for making lifelong memories!❤️
