Enjoy life the way the Hampton's used to be. The wrap around verandas of Rose Cottage invite family and friends. Enter and you will discover a gourmet kitchen with all the cookware you could ask for.
A master suite on the second floor is a great retreat.
The third floor which we call Grandma's Attic is a story and a half space with a double bed, trundle bed; and a ladder to its loft gives a water view and a good place for reading. I hate to mention the word rain, but if it happens, the kids will be happy with this space... and the parents will be too.

The house was purchased about 20 years ago and extensively renovated. It is comfortably eclectic and great for entertaining. The wrap around porches and a commercially equipped kitchen provide an excellent environment for a week in the Hamptons. The setting is enjoyably private and everything is convenient to this location. As I am spending most of my time in the Caribbean, this house will probably be for sale in the future. It would be offered furnished and financing could be arranged. Let me know.
David Heiman purchased this farmhouse in 1998
Rose Cottage is a short ferry hop away from both the north shore and south shore shuttle services into the city.
Our family, including a toddler and an infant, had a wonderful week at Rose Cottage. The owner goes out of his way to make sure your stay at Rose Cottage is a true vacation. Shelter Island was a great place to explore, and such easy access to the North and South Forks of Long Island for day trips.
The BEST place to stay on Shelter Island. Our family has been going the Rose Cottage for the last 3 years. The owner Dave is a "gem". We have a total of 6 in our family so the house accommodates everyone. I have worked in the restaurant business for many years and thoroughly enjoy the "chef's" commercial kitchen. Everything I need to prepare all meals and baking is on site. I was very impressed with kitchen on my first arrival. There is so much to do on Shelter Island and my children look forward to going every year. Book early and you won't be dissapointed....
Our family enjoyed this quirky, rambling Shelter Island home. Comfortable outdoor space served as a focal point for family and extended-friend dinner gatherings, while the top-notch kitchen was stocked to the hilt with just about anything a serious cook might need. The house was quite spacious for six adults - two parents and our adult children, each accompanied by a guest. In addition, our Golden Retriever, Henry, found the large front porch and chasing of rabbits very much to his liking.
The house is located just a few minutes drive from the North Ferry; the location is peaceful and quiet. David was quite accommodating with the entire rental process and the home and its amenities were just as stated on the VRBO site.
This is our third visit to Shelter Island and it's a truly special place. We've enjoyed hiking in the gorgeous Mashomack Preserve, as well as the varied selection of wineries on the North Fork - we especially recommend Shinn Estate Vineyards and Anthony Nappa's The Winemaker Studio (think Anomaly Pinot Noir white wine!). The drive through the Hamptons out to Montauk is a half-day well spent. Bob's Fish Market on Shelter Island was a good source of fresh local seafood for home cooking and Noah's in Greenport served up some interesting and savory tapas. Vine Street Cafe, while quite expensive, was an extraordinary and memorable dinner. Hay Beach is a great little spot for relaxing and bocci ball. The star gazing from Rose Cottage on clear nights was awesome! Driving through the Forks, Sag Harbor and the Hamptons is a reminder that Long Island Forks region is stunningly beautiful.
I cannot believe I have neglected to write a review after all these years. Our family loves this house. We cannot stay away. The owner, David, Is wonderful and all our needs are met. It's our home away from home... and we adore it.
We love this house! It's perfect for kids and adults. Kitchen is very well equipped and house has plenty of linens and bath/beach towels. Location is minutes from Dering Harbor and Hay Beach. David and his wife are great hosts and Susan the caretaker is very friendly and helpful.
This is really a perfect vacation rental. I cannot find anything negative to say about the place. The owner was extremely accommodating and the house is truly beautiful. Excellent.
