About Diane Spence

We live in Scottsdale, AZ and want to share our retreat with others.

Diane Spence purchased this cabin in 2001

Why Diane Spence chose Flagstaff

My husband and I met attending NAU, so Flagstaff has always been a special place for us. When we wanted to purchase a second home, Flagstaff was our first choice. When our kids were younger, we spent many summers and school holidays here enjoying all that Flagstaff has to offer. We love the access to many hiking and biking trails and all the wildlife that is abundant here.

What makes this cabin unique

Feeling like you are getting away from it all, but only 10 minutes from downtown Flagstaff. All homes in our subdivision are on 2+ acres. Our cabin is surrounded by undeveloped acreage, and we are the very last cabin at the end of the road.

Simply beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We needed a nice, secluded, and spacious location for a leaders retreat, and this place was just what the doctor ordered. Plenty of room inside for a group and the spacious patio and backyard of the property made activities and outdoor meetings a blast. The WiFi, furnishings, and close proximity to Safeway truly make this feel like a home away from home. The huge patio and beautiful surrounding view of nature make morning Yoga sessions a must!

As long as it is available we will make this our yearly meeting location since everyone loved it.

The Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was an incredibly relaxing experience! The scenery is beautiful! The accommodations are, not only welcoming and cozy, but included absolutely everything we needed for our stay. The highlight of our trip was enjoying the family of deer that continued to visit the property. I highly recommend it and cannot wait to take my family back there again!

Better then advertised!

We came up from Phoenix for our anniversary and were absolutely blown away! The cabin is amazing, it’s spacious yet cozy. The location is close enough to the town that we could go out to dinner and be back within the hour. Love the privacy and relaxed atmosphere. Can’t wait to visit again!

Great cabin on a beautiful lot

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is clean, beautifully furnished and has everything you could hope for to have a nice stay. The cabin sits on a secluded lot in the woods but isn't too far from downtown Flagstaff. The porches were my favorite - you can either sit on the front or back porch and enjoy the mountain air. We even saw deer pass by! We have stayed at many VRBOs and this is by far one of our favorites, if not our favorite. (The owner is wonderful and helpful as well.)

Taking a chance to spend a week with our daughter's family in Flagstaff was the backdrop for our stay at this vacation home. We have used VRBO on numerous occasions, mostly in the Western U.S. and Hawaii. I would rate this experience above average for the homes we have rented. The home's setting is in a quiet area of Flagstaff, and if you know the community, that is an important consideration. While not remote, it certainly is quiet and semi-rural with homes set a few hundred feet apart on acre-plus properties. The lots are covered with mature Ponderosa Pines and the native grasses provide a nice meadow-like setting amidst the trees.

The front porch welcomes you to the home and we spent a good deal of time there. The great room, while not huge, has ample size and furnishings (leather chairs, sofas, and a loveseat) to be comfortable. The dining room is good sized and the table is large with 6 chairs and can seat more. The kitchen was well stocked and the refrigerator had enough room to accommodate the food we brought for the week.

The rear deck is large and we enjoyed a lot of time there. While there are no real views to speak of , the forest setting was very relaxing. There are deer in the area and we all enjoyed seeing deer each day, sometimes including a young frisky fawn.

While we used only the two bedrooms on the first floor of the main house, there are two additional sleeping rooms, one a suite with compact kitchen over the garage and a "crow's nest" loft accessed via a spiral staircase from the great room. The suite over the garage is private with its own deck and would offer some real flexibility to those renting the property. The garage was clean and had space for two cars if needed. We did not use the garage, leaving our cars parked in the drive.

Diane, the owner, was very helpful and friendly and we enjoyed the opportunity to use her family's home. I will advise that the wifi could be an issue for someone needing access to the web and sufficient bandwidth to transfer large business files. You might want to discuss that with the owner as they are using telephone technology rather than cable as there is no cable access in the area. Fortunately this did not complicate our stay.

We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this home to families looking for a quiet place away from the hustle and bustle that can be Flagstaff just about any time of the year.

Owner's Response: I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. To clarify your observation, our cabin sits on 2.5 acres, and all the homes in our community are on a minimum of 2 acres. We have 6 undeveloped acres to the South of us, and 2 undeveloped acres to the North, so we definitely have space, and privacy. There are not many VRBO options, that are within 10 minutes of downtown and grocery stores, but can offer a very quiet, private setting, among wildlife and many hiking and biking trails. As far as the internet, Verizon (jet pack) is the only option where we live, as our neighborhood does not have cable. We just recently started to offer internet because Verizon went to unlimited data plans. Prior to that, not offering internet was never an issue to our guests, as most want to get away from it all. I know that when we personally need a guaranteed data source when we are traveling, we carry our own personal hot spot, and that's what we used to do, when we needed internet at our cabin. Obviously, some guests use more data than others, which is out of my control, and your stay fell at the end of our data cycle. Verizon offers 10 GB of high speed/month, and then it throttles down. We were trying to add internet as an additional amenity, and for it to be a positive thing, as it was never a negative thing because we didn't have it.
