About Glenn Russell
I'm an out going bahamian .I love the outdoors, fishing ,free diving ,boating ,taking my wave runner out for a spin and off roading in a ATV or truck. I have knowledge and first hand experience of the area and trails around Cherokee and over Abaco . I guide on the sea as well as the land .Deep sea charters and guided trips can be arranged and booked .If you have your own boat I can guide and help with sight seeing covering Cherokee area , central Abaco and its cays and almost any part of Abaco .Bird watching , remote beaches and deep woods trips are also an option for charter . Featured trips to Piggy Ville to feed the swimming pigs are very enjoyable . Deep forest fresh water caves are also a good guided tour . My education from high school in the Bahamas to College degrees in Florida help me to guide in a very detailed way . On a deep forest trip we will trail none groomed paths leading to unfrequented wooded areas and ocean beaches . A good level of fitness is needed along with certain supplies . There are parks on the land and sea under that are under the supervision of The National Trust . These are not my usual areas but could be included . My paths will not be labeled with signs , tress and plants will be visible but no labels . Birds will be wild and very beautiful but not trained .
Glenn Russell purchased this House in 1993
Why Glenn Russell chose Cherokee Sound
I purchased this home back in 1993 because of its panoramic sea-coast view. Captains View is named after its original owner Capt. Roy P. Russell J.P. This was his retirement home and may be mines as well one day! Although I didn't buy it initially to rent it out, after renovating it many friends and visitors asked me to open it up to the rental possibilities. In order to share the undiscovered area I have rented it only to a select few. This home is very precious to me and my daughters so I'm selective about who I rent to. With this VRBO being my first internet outreach, Even though i have rented for 26 years i will still only rent to a few guest .
What makes this House unique
The house is so ideally located that once you arrive just relax and slide right in ,the beach and shallow water will wash your travels away .Bonefish.....Bonefish on the door step . Should you choose a rental car /van it can be parked close for easy access . Every where you want to go is accessible by foot, a bike or skateboard. If you come by boat the water is deep enough off the long dock that you can anchor out in the bay and see it from the porch. The two orange kayaks and the 3 person yellow kayak can be launched right from the house beach. The front porch will offer you the best sunrises and sunsets. The front porch is always a good place to avoid the sun and catch conversation with guest or locals. For people with young children they can watch their kids play safely on the beach less than 50 feet away from the porch. Another unique benefit is you don't have to go far to catch a nights meal. Simply cast out your hook and line of The Long Dock and your sure to catch a feast. The front and back areas of the house are great for children and adults hanging around ,talking, laughing and listening to music. You can crack coconuts ( careful they can stain )and make coconut water, eat sea grapes, cocoplums , catch fish and retire after eating to a nice movie in the living room. Snorkeling areas are within walking distance and the boat can get to reefs that are offshore .Captains View is a special place that many guest keep quite for there own continued pleasure .

What a great place. If you want vacation and a great place to stay look no further. Glenn was great and his home and surroundings are breathe taking. Book here look no further.
Sit on the waters edge
Everything at your hands lengths . Beach sand steps away .
Porch view is perfect and as natural as it gets . Bonefish tailing right in front of the house.
Wonderful place! Well run and gorgeous flat in front of the house.
Glenn does a superb job of running this 2 bedroom jackpot. Cherokee Sound lacks the bustle of Marsh Harbour and other places and that's a good thing. 20 minutes away by car gets you all of that you need. but here the dock and view make for an unforgetbul memory. His boat adds to the enjoyment of surrounding cays if you are competent with a small craft and motor. Bonefish out front are very picky, but you'll see fish. Glenn leaves you alone unless you need something. Chuck and the "city council" who meet every day on the dock are valuable sources of information. Feb 2019
Oh Carl it was a pleasure having you , your family and friends . The bonefish you say are picky but that's because they have become smart to avoid the angler . Bonefish are referred to as a very allusive species . The Long dock morning coffee spot can make for a good start to the day . I hope to have you'll return .
Our Second Visit - Even Better than the First!
This is a unique property in a unique setting. A modest 2 BR cottage that not only fronts it's own little beach, but is directly adjacent to the Long Dock. It's location and siting give one the sense that the Long Dock is your private little walk way out over the sand flat or at night, out into the stars. Both sunrises and sunsets can be enjoyed from the Dock's bench or from your front porch. Since this cottage has the very best view of the water in town, people will pass along your sidewalk and take coffee on the long dock. While that might sound intrusive, you may see 5-10 people a day but again this is a very quiet place with very few people.
There is a shed full of kayaks, bikes, snorkeling gear and the like. A well maintained aluminum boat is optionally available to explore nearby waters and beaches. Glenn is an attentive but otherwise invisible owner who will address any issues that arise. There is a well stocked grocery in town and a Pete's Pub 15 mins up the road. Otherwise there are only the Bonefish.... (if you are not a Bonefisherperson, stop here)
The house is centrally located on one of the finest little Bonefish flats in the Bahamas. Smooth enough to be waded in your bare feet with a resident population of Bonefish of all sizes including some oceanside biggies. However, these Bones are highly educated and very tough to catch. They know who you are, what you are doing and they don't like Charley. While this may be physically the nicest flat I've ever fished, it is not my favorite - it's tough. Oh, maybe it is my favorite....
Each morning I got out of my bed, grabbed my fly rod and walked out to ebb tide flat. Standing on our beach, I could often spot a loner in 1' of water waiting for the water to flow back into the adjacent creek. I could walk up on the long dock that spans the entire width of the flat and spot schools and singles as they moved up for the rising tide. No reason to try to cast from up there, these fish are not dummies. Fishing small flies with rubber legs that don't require stripping can be effective. Minimal false casting and healthy leads were the key to picking up schoolies. An accurate cast on the head of a tailer was the key to getting a reaction bite. Wonderfully tough! A short walk back home for coffee was the mornings reward. Repeat before dinner and sunset.
I was the only fisherman working the hundreds of Bonefish on this flat the 5 days we spent there. That's special
It sounds like you found the ultimate therapy for a fisherman . I am very glad to hear that you'll enjoyed your stay .
Fantastic getaway from the hustle and bustle of home! Perfect place to relax and enjoy all that abaco has to offer.
It was a pleasure having you and your family . The boat rental trip was a full day of excitement and sightseeing specials . We saw turtles , stingrays , a small shark and ,not often found ,a family of Pelicans . I have a few great photos of them . I hope your GoPro captured the under water reef and its fish life . I hope to see you'll return again .
The house was clean and bright. The beds were comfortable and the location superb.
I am glad that you found a pleasurable time . It was a stay with your son as the main priority ....... He found his fish that he was chasing ... Great .
Captains View is located on the beach in the town of Cherokee on the island of Abaco in The Bahamas . The arrival airport is a Marsh Harbour Intl and a 30 minute drive .Cherokee Sound is an area surrounded by shallow water and creeks that contain many fish species like bonefish .On the eastern side is the town of Cherokee and on the western side is Cassaurina .The most sort after is the bone fish but barracuda is also common .In the area there is several beaches on which shells and sea glass can be found . The history of the town is routed in fishing and is a very quite ,slow paced ,relaxing place to vacation .
