We are retired administrators from Munson Healthcare and Michigan Public Schools. Our three sons and their families enjoy the great outdoors and playing Bluegrass Music throughout Michigan and Massachusetts. We have owned, enjoyed and improved this cottage since 1987. It was our home full time for more than a year while we were permanently relocating to the Traverse City area. The cottage has lovingly been updated every year.
Paul and Jean Kirchner purchased this cottage in 1987
We found this breathtakingly beautiful log cottage with a perfect setting on a non-motor lake while we were vacationing "up north" in early 1987. Swimming was a top request for our boys. They also loved fishing and catching turtles. It was safe for our kids when they were growing up and offered so many opportunities for area exploration and was close enough to Traverse City so we could enjoy all the opportunities in the entire area. It offered a very easy access to Traverse City without enduring the traffic of some of the major roads.
This is a quiet repose from the summer busy schedule in Traverse City, while easily accessible via paved county roads. It is also uniquely accessible to Cherry Capital Airport which is served by at least 3 major airlines. It also puts Mackinac Island and the Mackinac Bridge an easy day trip away. [100 miles]. The sleepy village of Alden is also a personal favorite. A day trip to Torch Lake and Elk Rapids is also delightful. There is great canoeing on the Manistee River or the Boardman River within 10 miles.
What a delightfully beautiful cottage. We found everything one could possible need. The cottage has many family heirlooms decorating the inside, but also has all the modern amenities one would expect at a five star hotel. Very relaxing! We will be back.
Our family loved this cottage last summer. Six of us found everything we were looking for. From the time we walked in the front door we felt welcomed by the warm log walls and wood floors plus the stone fireplace. My husband and I found the hot tub our relax place with a cup of coffee listening to birds in the early morning. Our sons fished and caught many turtles. The girls enjoyed the paddle boat and canoe. When it rained one day we found time to play games and enjoy family time like we never take time for at home. With four kids the washer and dryer were very convenient. We have stayed at many cottages, but this one tops our favorite list. We will be back!
The Kirchner cabin was beautiful, and the location pristine. Even better than advertised. I look forward to visiting again in the future.
We have been to multiple cottages in the past and I can confidently say this was one of the best if not the best. It simply had everything, a beautiful quiet lake, all sorts of boats were available, a hot tub, a fire pit, an indoor fireplace, a gas barbecue and all sorts of other amenities. We had a great time fishing & using the boats.
We visited Traverse city which was awesome, its a short drive from the cottage.
The owners are very responsive, the answer your calls & resolve any issues you moght have promptly
Thank you Paul and Jean for a wonderful vacation, we will definately go back to the cottage in the future.
Fall is an amazing time to visit. We were able to enjoy the lake and hot tub everyday as well as the cozy fireplace. The kids loved sleeping up in the loft and all the beds were super comfortable. Taking day trips to Petoskey and Sleeping Bear Dunes were easy adventures from the cabin. The drives are both very scenic-- with fall colors and apple orchards lining the highways.
I made all our breakfasts and dinners and even baked muffins in the well stocked kitchen. Not sure where the nearest grocery store is so it would be wise to have a few meals worth of food packed for your arrival.
It was a great vacation and it was hard to leave!
As a long time traveler and a partaker of some fantastic vacations in my years, I believe that I know a great one when I experience it...... this was one of the best weeks in my new definition of paradise. I understand that what is great for some is not so great for others. This was great for me! Un-pretentious, most comfortable, super clean, beautiful and an awesome lake. The perfect getaway for someone like me who is well traveled and experienced in the art of "vacation" in that it allowed me and encouraged me to do exactly what I wanted, when I wanted to enjoy myself. Never did I feel any pressure to be more active (or less active) or more involved (or less involved) in any one activity or another. I dedicated my time to relaxation with a capitol "R". I read, sewed (brought my sew machine with me), journaled, listened to awesome music, ate clean and healthy (lots of farmers markets around) and spent quality time with myself. Not once did I feel the need to turn on the TV or interact with any other human beings.
I have spent a lot of time in vacation rentals and I definitely would rate this one...the best. I was pleasantly surprised that I needed 'nothing'. Everything was provided. I easily could have just came with my clothing.
Because I own a business I understand the importance of communication and quality customer service. Communication with the owners was paramount for me and they didn't disappoint. They went above and beyond to make sure that my stay and my future stay (yes I booked another vacation) was spot on.
I have nothing negative to say...I enjoyed the quietness, having a fire on those chilly evenings and disconnecting from all stimuli that seems to create such a hectic world we sometimes live in. Definitely would recommend. This "home away from home" is amazing!
The cottage was clean and welcoming when we got there, and provided a quiet environment to spend time with the family. The hot tub provided hours of entertainment for the kids, and the boats provided gave us a great opportunity to get on the water. The proximity to local attractions tons made it easy to see and do lots, but we could have stayed the whole week at the cabin, just relaxing. Allowing us to take the dogs made life so much easier for us, this was an overall wonderful experience. Thank you, Kirchners for sharing your place with us!
