Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms plus playroom/bunkbed room, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 9)

This unique, artistic, beautiful house is located on a quiet, tree lined street in JAMES BAY, half a block from the ocean and only a 10-15 min. walk to the inner harbor and downtown Victoria. You do not need a car to enjoy your holiday in Victoria in this location!. Cruise ships line the docks and miles of beaches are there for you to enjoy.

The house is 2300 sq feet (1150 sq feet on two levels) . It is very light, open concept, and a beautiful mixture of 'West Coast meets Urban living' (old fir beams and polished concrete floors, modern kitchen/bathroom and old fir floors). Upstairs are 3 bedrooms, all with queen sized beds, cozy down filled duvets, open concept kitchen and living room that stimulates your senses with its harmonious use of colors, textures, Art, and attention to detail. The owner is an artist/textile designer from Germany and her house is an expression of who she is. There is a bathroom with a claw foot bathtub upstairs and a second bathroom with a large shower stall downstairs.

Downstairs there is a large second living/TV/piano/reading room with heated flooring and lots of daytime light. There is another large room that leads into the courtyard that serves as the 4th bedroom with bunk beds and would make a great playroom for the kids/teenagers.

What else is there to say...the pictures will speak for themselves I think. This will feel like a home away from home and the location is perfect if you enjoy experiencing the cultural events, fine dining and city life of Victoria in combination with the ocean, kayaking, beaches etc. half a block away. Enjoy!

Why femke woud chose Victoria

When my daughter and her young family moved to Victoria in 2005 (from Toronto), I decided to spend half my time in Victoria and half in Ontario. I fell in love with this house which is a perfect blend of modern and old/character. I loved the location since I don't drive and could do all my shopping in James Bay Village or Cook street village and walk downtown within minutes. I have since moved to another place, but my daughter manages the house and uses it for occasional house/jazz concerts when the rental season is slower (ie winter). The house is light, spacious, open and was easy to decorate , which I love to do.

What makes this house unique

I enjoy being so close to the ocean and going for a morning walk. I often stop for coffee or lunch at the Ogden point cafe (on the ocean!) and enjoy watching the cruise ships dock at the pier. I can do all my shopping in James Bay village which is merely a 5 min walk away. I love walking to Beacon hill park (7 min walk) , the petting zoo, ponds and playgrounds (2) with my granddaughter and enjoy the beautiful peace and beauty of the West coast nature. The inner harbor with great restaurants, street performers , buzzing night life, parliament buildings, The Royal B.C museum and Imax theatre, and summer festivals is just a 10 min walk from my house. I appreciate beauty, harmony, simplicity and color and my house is an expression of my inner world. I enjoy the spaciousness of this house with many choices of rooms to sit, read, enjoy company, make art, play piano or watch a movie.

Guestbook comments from the manager

"Staying her was lovely-a delight. We enjoyed the design of the home (the high ceilings, skylights, Art and simplicity of the appearance) as well as the proximity to the ocean which we visited daily. Being able to celebrate Christmas in a home, rather than a hotel, made our family gathering so much more meaningful and comfortable. Thank you for your hospitality and for sharing your house with us. We leave with fond memories of our stay here. The Stewart Family.

Great Location! Amazing Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 4 (including my 3 year old and 5 month old) stayed here for the entire month of May. Our stay was beyond wonderful - where to begin...

First of all, the location can't be beat. Everyday we would start and end our day along Dallas Road. It is literally a 3 minute walk to the waters edge and then you can stroll as long as you like. The Breakwater Cafe was a favourite stop for lunch and coffee breaks. Our daily walks also included trips to James Bay Village for groceries, coffee, snacks and lunch. We walked to the Inner Harbour a few times too, probably 15 min. max to get there (that's walking with a baby stroller and 3 year old). But you only need to drive 5-10min to get to any attraction you really want in downtown Victoria (Inner Harbour, Beacon Hill Park, Cook Street, Fisherman's Wharf etc.)

Secondly, the house itself was just perfect for our needs. It is very well appointed - there was nothing I missed from home that I really needed. The rooms were spacious and clean. Main bathroom with shower was on lower level, which is unconventional, but not a problem. You will spend the majority of your time upstairs which is a very cool layout. It's nice that the living room upstairs doesn't have a TV because it totally encouraged us to visit with each other. WIFI cuts out in the living room, but works well everywhere else. The courtyard is totally underrepresented by the pictures and overview. This hidden oasis was where we spent every other minute. We BBQ'd almost daily, and we sat out every night. You could hear a pin drop as the neighbourhood is so quiet. (Although, you can hear the cruise ship horns, seagulls and the clip-clop of the horse drawn carriages as they tour James Bay.).

Finally, Femke was very easy to deal with - she was helpful with answering my questions prior to the trip so that I could plan what I needed. She really cared that we would have a good time in Victoria and especially at the house.

We would love to come back again!

Owner's Response: Thank you Melanie for your beautiful review, that captures in such detail what you loved about the location of the house. I haven't asked anyone to write a review yet this summer, so appreciate your initiative. I am actually staying here myself now with my daughter for 7 weeks as my kitchen is being renovated and enjoying living in a different space and area of town. (I live in fairfield). Thanks again and please come back anytime. Summer is continuing here even though it is September!

Parents of the Bride

  • 5 of 5

My daughter's wedding was in Victoria and as she has a small condo we needed a place to stay. I am not very fond of hotels and I wanted somewhere that my family could stay together. There was myself,my husband, my mom, daughter, sister and her husband. My niece and her partner also joined us for a couple of nights. This home was perfect! It is spacious and very well equipped. Nice linens and lots of them. We even hosted a meet and greet before the wedding and it was great, our guests loved it, the home has so much personality and beautiful unique artwork. It photographed so well in our pic's due to the great light. The bride and bridesmaids got ready here as well. Location is perfect, we like to walk and it is close to everything. Highly recommended, so much nicer than a hotel and cost effective too!

Great location, comfortable home in Victoria

  • 4 of 5

My family and I stayed in this lovely, 3-bedroom home that's just a hop from the waterfront, and a 15-min walk from downtown. The home has beautiful light - lots of windows and skylights - and a great sitting area. Femke was in contact leading up to our arrival, though the busy schedules of the approaching holiday led to some hiccups in accessing the key when we got into town. Overall, I'd definitely stay here again, though I would note that the house was a little unprepared for us - needed some stocking of basic supplies (TP, paper towels, Kleenex, sponges, soap in the shower). A few more touches and it'll be an even more special location.
