Perched just above the tiny outport fishing village of Brigus South, Anchor Rock Lookout is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy life. Sit on the wrap-around deck or the upstairs balcony and watch the tide go in and out in Brigus Cove, the birds flying near Brigus Head, or perhaps spot a whale or iceberg floating by out in the ocean. Just a few steps away are blueberries for the picking (in season.) We regret that we cannot acommodate large events and thank you for respecting our wonderful house and the peace of our amazing neighbors.
Newly built and opened in June 2010, Anchor Rock Lookout is furnished with all the modern conveniences of life, but also features a touch of yesteryear with rich hardwood floors and antiques throughout. The 3 main bedroom suites each feature a queen bed and an attached bathroom. The master bath has a clawfoot tub,a large shower, and ocean views, while the 2 upstairs bathrooms feature huge showers and one has a waterfall view. Fluffy sheepskin rugs from New Zealand and flat screen TVs with DVD players adorn each bedroom suite. Also upstairs are 2 smaller rooms with a twin bed in each, suitable for children or single adults. In between the upstairs bedroom suites you will find a library with a balcony overlooking the ocean and a sitting room with a sunset view, so that you can get almost continuous sun during the day. Two bedrooms look out over a nearby waterfall.
You will love the open plan feeling downstairs, with large picture windows everywhere, a Great Room with a large flat screen satellite HD television, DVD player, stereo system with I-Pod dock, and a selection of DVDs and CDS for your use. The Great Room is open to the kitchen and dining room and provides for easy entertaining. The kitchen is has a pantry which is fully stocked with general cooking provisions as well as fixings for your first breakfast. A clothes washer and dryer are located in the mudroom, and laundry soap and other necessities are provided.
Anchor Rock Lookout is only 45 minutes drive south of the capital, St. John's, on the Irish Loop of Newfoundland. The house is just a short walk to the East Coast Trail and you can hike to La Manche Provincial Park to the north or Admiral's Cove and Cape Broyle to the south. Cape Broyle also features world class sea kayaking. The historic town of Ferryland is only a short drive away, where you will find the Avalon Colony archaeological dig, the world famous Lighthouse Picnics, and a dinner theatre.

We have visited Brigus South and Cape Broyle for years and have many friends here. This is truly one of the most beautiful spots in the world, and the kayaking can't be beat!
Where else in the world can you see icebergs, whales, waterfalls, rainbows, ocean, boats, birds, the sunrise and blueberries all from the comfort of home?
Eureka! We have found tranquility and harmony here. The majesty of the natural world, down t earth wonderful people (especially Darlene and Randy) and this terrific house. We will be back for sure to look for a piece of paradise here.
We stayed at Anchor Rock for a week in July. It was our first trip to Newfoundland and I simply cannot think of a single bad thing to say other than Air Canada lost our luggage but that was hardly the fault of anyone in Nfld. And the Newfoundlanders could not have been kinder, lending us clothing, helping with the retrieval, anything that would make our stay more comfortable. We have rented many houses over the years, in several countries, and I can honestly say this was the best equipped house we have ever experienced. It was quiet, clean and well furnished, the beds were comfortable, there was nothing you could want that was not provided. Anything you could want in the kitchen was at hand, including condiments, dry goods, even chocolates! We sat on our deck and watched the whales in the bay every day, bought crab from the fish processing plant (which was outstanding), travelled around the entire Avalon Peninsula and saw more species of whales than we ever expected. BUT we never saw a moose, even though everyone cautioned us to watch out for them! And we looked! Darlene and Randy who care for you and the house are exceptional hosts and can not do enough for the visitors. In short, it was a perfect holiday and I cannot recommend the house, the people and the province highly enough.
We had a fabulous stay in Brigus South at Anchor Rock! The accommodations are superb! Comfy beds, every convenience you need, amazing views of the bay, close to trails! What more could one ask for? We enjoyed our family wedding with Anchor Rock as home base. The groom and his party dressed here, had a sociable to relax them and proceeded to the big event in Admirals Cove. Many wedding guests came by for a visit. It was a perfect space for us. We hope to return for a quieter weekend soon. Many thanks to Randy and Darlene for their help in making it perfect!
This was the first time we have rented a house or cottage via the internet and we were a little nervous. Our fears were not founded because Anchor Rock was just as described on VRBO and better. It was very well supplied and we were surprised and appreciative of the care package that Randy brought us our first night. Our ages ranged from 2 to 67 years and the house suited all of our needs. The house was a good base point to do touring. We booked a lighthouse picnic at Ferryland and even though it turned foggy and rained later,it was a highlight of our trip. You need to book these lunches well in advance as it books up quickly.its an easy drive to St. John's with all of the sights to see there. We drove the Irish Loop to,see the scenery. We made wonderful memories at Anchor Rock and would highly recommend renting the house to anyone.
This was a truly beautiful property with everything you would need for a relaxing stay. The house itself was spacious and nicely decorated, the kitchen included many of the "staples" you would need (sugar, wide spice selection, etc.) and the ingredients for your first breakfast are even provided! The views are spectacular, both from the dining room and the upstairs balcony (we could have sat up there all day!) We saw whales every day while we ate our meals!!! There is a lot to do within an hour's drive - festivals, whale-watching boat tours, museums, hiking trails - St. John's is less than an hour drive away, too - we were never bored! This property might be more challenging for families with very young children because there are cliffs near the house with no fence. This was our first visit to Newfoundland and we absolutely loved it. We would highly recommend this property and hope to be able to return in the future!
We stayed at the Anchor Rock Lookout for a week, and we had an absolutely amazing time! Loved the privacy, stunning view, and tranquil settings. Every morning I would have my first cup of coffee sitting out on the porch, and enjoying the stunning view and at times catch sight of whales in the bay. The house is impeccable, and on arrival it was such a relief to find a kitchen already equipped with the necessary items such as coffee, tea, spices etc... The property manager Darlene was very helpful in providing suggestions on local attractions, restaurants, and groceries. The house is perfectly located, to the north it took less than an hour to get to St. John's, and minutes away from Whale and Puffin boat and Sea Kayaking adventure tours. During our week there, we visited the light house at Ferry land, went on a wonderful whale & puffin boat tour, visited Cape spear, and went on a tiring but fabulous sea kayaking trip. It was wonderful to come back to a beautiful home everyday, and relax after a full day of activities. We would recommend the property to anyone who is looking to visit St. John's. We have stayed at many timeshares, luxury hotels, and vacation rental places over the years, and this property rank at the top for its location and amenities.
The property was more then what we expected. There were 3 couples who shared this home and it was more then big enough. The owners and the people who looked after this property were very helpful with directions and activities in the area. I would definitely recommend this property.
