Lynne Fagan Murray purchased this villa in 1994
We had been sailing for many years in the Caribbean looking for our Island home and by accident heard about Eleuthera. This is what we had been looking for. An Island with beautiful beaches and friendly people. Off the main tourist tract. The first time we saw the water and the beautiful deserted beaches we knew we were home
Close to the United States with the Bahamian dollar on par with the US dollar. Miles of deserted beaches with gorgeous reefs and small settlements with friendly people. Lots of things to do yet off the main tourist radar. Wonderful climate that is between 70 and 85 all year round. Small restaurants, fish frys and lots of local entertainment yet it is unusual to see other people on the beaches. Very friendly helpful people that are always willing to make people feel at home.
We were fortunate to spend 11 days in the 1 bedroom apartment at Heron Hill. Privacy abounds as does mature island plantings around the very private property. We found everything needed for a great vacation and Andrew the caretaker was always available for support. Propane generator backup was great when the power went out (common on the island). This was our third time on the island and third property we experienced. We are looking forward to coming back and staying here again!
Heron Hill is a beautiful, well maintained house with loads of privacy. We saw the namesake herons near the pool each morning. Driving in through the lush grounds with beautiful flowers is like arriving to an oasis of peace and calm. We were lucky enough to spend two weeks at Heron Hill and both the owners and the caretaker were attentive and delightful to work with through all aspects of our stay. Highly recommended.
My husband and I just returned home yesterday from our stay at the Heron Hill Apartment while celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. The home is perfectly situated and it is incredibly nice of Lynne to make the apartment available while keeping the rest of the property vacant so we had complete privacy and access to the grounds. We took long, lazy walks along the beach to the left of the home almost every morning. We wore beach shoes to climb over the few rocks and then took them off and left them by the rocks as the remainder of the beach was wonderfully soft. We walked, swam, walked and swam. We rarely saw anyone else on this magnificent stretch of the beach. We took photos and enjoyed this beach as much as any other beach on the island.
We did quite a bit of exploring. We drove to Lighthouse Beach and found the road to get there unbelievable and quite an adventure, but the beach at the end of the road was amazing. Again we were the only souls in sight. On another day, we drove past Glass Window Bridge and out to the dock for an afternoon at Harbor Island which was also beautiful. We rented a golf cart, explored the island, wandered around the shops and mostly enjoyed the beautiful beach. We also loved Double Bay Beach, Ten Bay Beach and French Leave Beach. I'm glad we requested a 4WD vehicle from Stanton Cooper as it was definitely needed as many of the beach access roads are rough.
Andrew was very helpful. He promptly fixed the shower when we reported very low water pressure and was a really nice guy. He even provided us a couple of beach chairs which we kept in our jeep for beach exploring. We rented snorkel gear from the local dive shop in Governors Harbor which we use at many of the beaches. We used the pool only a couple of times, but it would have been more inviting if it had been cleaned. The grounds were stunningly beautiful and I would like to have explored more, but at this time of the year the mosquitoes and no see-ums prevented us from doing so.
The owner, Lynne was very helpful with her emails and providing info for us to bring bug protection which was very helpful. We fixed all of our meals and ate at home. We found the kitchen had everything we needed.
We typically don't go back to the same place twice as there are so many amazing places to see and explore, but Eleuthera has stolen our heart and we will most definitely be back.
Accommodations far exceeded our expectations. Our party of 8 had an abundance of privacy, or loads of gathering space if we wanted. The unit was clean and well equipped - providing everything we needed for our stay. The landscaped grounds were amazing and the large pool just added to pleasure. Would recommend Heron Hill to anyone looking for a special get-away.
We loved Eleuthera and Heron Hill Villa. It is smack in the middle of the island so you can get to either end easily without too much time spent driving. The beaches are spectacular and there are 135 of them! We enjoyed the apartment portion of this home. The space was more than adequate for the two of us. The room air conditioner in the bedroom as well as the living area purred along keeping us nice and cool. This villa has a great view of the ocean right from the living area window. The privacy is unparalleled. We simply adored it!! Wish I was still there. Scrumptious. 😀😀
You can't beat this view over looking the turquoise seas and bright white sandy beaches of Eleuthera. Take a stroll down the gorgeous beach, most likely you won't run into many people if anyone at all! The house is comfortable and well equipped for your relaxing stay. The garden is huge and a pleasure to explore! A huge thumbs up for this wonderful gem!
Heron Hill is a large, luxurious house complete with all of the amenities. The 5 acre grounds are beautifully landscaped and the newly added swimming pool provides additional enjoyment. The Island is 110 miles long with amazing blue water and pink sand beaches. Not a tourist destination so the beaches are never crowded. Coral reefs directly off the shore for diving and snorkeling. Many small restaurants with live music and delicious food. Caving, birding, fishing and exploring throughout the Island. The people are very friendly and will help with any questions. Large organic farms for fresh produce and fresh fish is brought into the dock every day in Governor's Harbour. Tennis Court that can be rented 100 feet from the entrance to the house. Peace, quiet and beauty yet there are not only very good restaurants but also shops with local crafts, a movie theater that serves beer, conch salad and hamburgers, Friday Night Fish Fry and other local events as well as craft fairs and a Jazz festival.
