Why Lynne Fagan Murray chose North Palmetto Point
We had been sailing for many years in the Caribbean looking for our Island home and by accident heard about Eleuthera. This is what we had been looking for. An Island with beautiful beaches and friendly people. Off the main tourist tract. The first time we saw the water and the beautiful deserted beaches we knew we were home
What makes this Villa unique
Close to the United States with the Bahamian dollar on par with the US dollar. Miles of deserted beaches with gorgeous reefs and small settlements with friendly people. Lots of things to do yet off the main tourist radar. Wonderful climate that is between 70 and 85 all year round. Small restaurants, fish frys and lots of local entertainment yet it is unusual to see other people on the beaches. Very friendly helpful people that are always willing to make people feel at home.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Great view with privacy
Property is very nice, we had a couple problems though they were somewhat fixed right away. The bed frame broke, and then Andrew the caretaker fixed it, then it broke again. So the other couple decided to switch rooms. The pool stopped working toward the end of the trip and due to a water crisis in town, it couldn't be repaired because it couldn't be refilled. Other than that we were very happy with the property. The property layout is great for multiple families as it provides for privacy for each group.
I am so sorry that you had problems with the bed frame. It is a brand new bedroom set and our caretaker has now assured me that the problem is fixed. The water supply is now all set as well.
Sweet Get Away
We very much enjoyed our time in the Bahamas and at the Heron House.
The house is spacious and has all the luxuries of home (including good wifi for the kids when they had enough sun). The décor and furniture were tasteful and comfortable. The pool and deck were welcome amenities after spending time on the beach and in the Atlantic.
The kitchen, important for a family of five, was well appointed with newer appliances (a luxury for the Bahamas based on our previous visits to the Islands). Stocked with the necessary utensils and spices one would normally keep at home. Having two fridges in the main kitchen was an unexpected treat.
Air conditioning worked well for the hot evenings (otherwise, the sliding doors and screens provided for a nice sea breeze during the day).
We enjoyed our stay at the Heron House and would very much recommend it.
Thank you for your review. You were great guests and we hope you will return soon.
True Bahamas Experience
After visiting Eleuthera over the last 20 years it is always comforting to return to the island and have it remembered as from your first visit. Heron Hill is located in North Palmetto point and sits on a bluff with majestic views of the kaleidoscopic blue shades that only different angles of sunlight can impart on the ocean. The home is in the true old style of traditional Bahamian architecture. It evokes the feel of your father's old country club as hundreds of books line the shelves and the furniture has heard so many wonderful conversations. As I mentioned to the owner, the stars at night challenged our grade school science teachings as we attempted vainly to identify all the constellations on display. The caretakers are wonderful and act as if they are the owners. I will pass on all the details as discovering a special place is the magic. My last impressions are …. the island provides textures and tends to our sensory needs... however Heron Hill might just embrace your soul.
Thank you for a great review. You were wonderful guests and we hope you return. Eleuthera is a magical place.
A good place to visit
The house has a great deal of character, beginning with the kapok tree that greats people entering the front door. All the rooms are decorated with eclectic art from around the world, including some local artists. There was plenty of room for the 8 of us, ranging in age from 76 to 13, with the master bedroom off the living room and den and the other three bedrooms on two different levels at the other end of the house. The main porch off the dining/living area and the upstairs porch off one of the have superb views of the Atlantic Ocean looking to the north. The grounds are exceptional, with lots of bird life and a wide variety of local flora - a good portion of which was in bloom.
It was a nice visit for most of us, although two people in our group had allergic reactions to the no-seeums and that tempered their enthusiasm.
The care-takers, Andrew and Reta, were very helpful and they keep the house and grounds in good shape. The bathroom off the den was broken the entire time we were there, which was a bit of an inconvenience, especially since it did not appear to be a serious problem.
Thank you for letting us stay in your house. It is apparent you have put a lot of thought and energy into Heron Hill's preservation and we enjoyed the fruits of your efforts.
Thank you for your review. You were great guests. I am so sorry that I did not know about the problems with the bathroom off of the den. I will be contacting our caretaker to have that repaired immediately.
You CAN Get Away from Everything!
My wife and I were searching for a peaceful, beautiful relaxing getaway to celebrate our son's 50th birthday with us and his wife. We could not have made a better choice than Heron Hill on Eleuthera! The pictures on this website are good but they truly don't compare with the reality of the sweeping tropical views you get. 75 shades of blue greet you either from the ocean side of the island or five minutes away on the bay side. (You pick which side you want to spend time according to the breeze, especially for snorkeling when calm water gives the best views!) We spent one week in the house and environs and could have spent longer. Mind you we were seeking a low key getaway - not a high party scene - and it was perfect for us. (And NO cruise ships anywhere on the island!)
What's double nice here is the care given you by the caretaker Andrew and his wife Reta. Everything is spic-and-span clean , and any problems - had we had any which we didn't - would have been taken care of. Andrew also arranged for a rental car to meet us at the North Eleuthera airport an hour away. This can be critical because car rentals are very casual and who knows what you may get (or IF you even can get one). In the house the A/C worked perfectly and we even got international phone service on my smartphone. (Make sure you get a Verizon International package for the time you are there.)
We ate out almost every night and thoroughly enjoyed the range of local foods both high end and low. (It helps to like sea food!) Heron Hill has a great location in the middle of the island with superb beaches right and left as well as right in front of the house.
All four of us highly recommend the place.
We are so happy that you had a wonderful vacation at Heron Hill. We want everyone who stays there to feel at home but with the special beauty that is seen from our house on the bluff.
You were great guests and we hope you will return some day.

Outdoors was fantastic. Interior needs to be significantly updated
The water and outdoor activities are fantastic but the interior needs a significant revamping. We have stayed at many (more than fifteen different properties in the past few years and this one was not what we had hoped for. Our family is used to great outdoor activities and this didn’t disappoint however the furniture and interior needs significant help. We enjoyed Andrew - the care taker. He was available most of the time We did come during a national holiday for the Bahamas so he was rightfully tied up that evening. Definitely need lots of bug spray like they said we would. Don’t be alarmed to find scorpions and some very large (bigger than two inches) spiders in the house off and on. Luckily my son and I are adept at cleaning a house of critters. But bring the strong sprays and some anti-itch creams in case. Gardens were very pretty This is a great island to get away from it all. We were able to dive with sharks a couple of days and snorkel with spearfishing each day. Eat what you catch. The locals were good at helping me figure out what was in season. Plenty of wildlife in the waters. Our children loved the crabs and lizards as well as the periodic snake. The herons make almost daily visits to the backyard. They were beautiful and a delight for all of us when we had the opportunity to share time with them. Plenty of coconuts if you are so inclined to drink one.
We are very sorry that you were disappointed in the interior of the house. We had the house repainted and $4000 of new furnishings such as ceiling fans, lamps, comforters etc. installed just prior to your arrival. We try to keep the property pristine and up to date. There are extensive photos of the interior on our web site. Also surprised that you mentioned the tiny Bahamian scorpion. You are the first person in 30 years to see it in the house and as I told you on the phone it is not poisonous which is also true of the spiders. We try to keep chemical spraying down to protect the lizards and the humming birds. If you were bothered Andrew would have been happy to spray for you.
Heron Hill is a large, luxurious house complete with all of the amenities. The 5 acre grounds are beautifully landscaped and the newly added swimming pool provides additional enjoyment. The Island is 110 miles long with amazing blue water and pink sand beaches. Not a tourist destination so the beaches are never crowded. Coral reefs directly off the shore for diving and snorkeling. Many small restaurants with live music and delicious food. Caving, birding, fishing and exploring throughout the Island. The people are very friendly and will help with any questions. Large organic farms for fresh produce and fresh fish is brought into the dock every day in Governor's Harbour. Tennis Court that can be rented 100 feet from the entrance to the house. Peace, quiet and beauty yet there are not only very good restaurants but also shops with local crafts, a movie theater that serves beer, conch salad and hamburgers, Friday Night Fish Fry and other local events as well as craft fairs and a Jazz festival.
