Welcome to Rosita's Bungalow. The many fun times and the memories afforded us on our trips south of the border, whether it be Mexico, Costa Rica, Belize, Honduras, and the Caribbean inspired us to create Rosita's Bungalow. We rescued a dilapidated bungalow built in the early 1900's and after a lot of blood, sweat, tears, and money we offer you a fun space from which to enjoy our historic town and the wonderful Black Hills of South Dakota.
The furniture and fixtures were purchased during our travels, the artwork displayed is from the different Mexican states. Pat, a long time 'Parrot Head' has included Jimmy Buffett memorabilia, a quesadilla maker and a blender for your private trip to Margaritaville.
Just minutes away from the river walk, restaurants, galleries, and spa services, and the famous Evans Plunge for a 'mineral Water' dip, Test your golfing skills on the premier course of South Dakota, Southern Hills Golf Course, visit the amazing Mammmouth Site, experience the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary, all this and Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Wind Cave National Park and Custer State Park just a short drive away.
Your kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, including pots, pans, china, glassware and utensils; supplies such as paper goods are the responsibility of the guest.
The secluded back yard backs up to a forested hillside full of wild birds, with its herb garden and bird feeders it is the perfect place to relax. The outdoor space features a Chiminea outdoor fireplace and BBQ grill.

Patrick Azinger purchased this bungalow in 2007
After years of researching this property, it became available to us in 2007, we spent that winter completely taking her down to her 'bones'; all new electrical, plumbing, walls, ceilings added a bedroom, in essence a brand new home inside the shell of a 1920's
The Southern Black Hills of South Dakota offer a great location to headquarter while touring the numerous National and State Parks, along with Mount Rushmore Memorial, Crazy Horse and all that the Black Hills and Badlands offer our guests.
We spent a long weekend here with our 3 kids and had a wonderful time using this house as our base for seeing so many sites- Mt Rushmore, caves, The Badlands, etc. The house was great and had everything we needed-- although it should be noted the hot tub is closed from October until May, which was a disappointment to learn upon arrival. Otherwise the house is exactly as described and was a wonderful place to stay within walking distance of the great downtown area!! Would certainly come back!
We stayed 4 nights this time. Visited multiple area sites (Mammoth Site, Wind Cave NP, Custer SP, Badlands NP, Mt Rushmore, and even up to Devils Tower in WY). We began each day with breakfast at the Daily Bread (wonderful place!) and were delighted to return to the casita each evening. A wonderful new addition since our last visit is the hot tub. I highly recommend Rosita's Casita as a "home base" for anyone visiting the area. The decor is filled with treasures from Mexico.
We recently spent 6 days at Rosita's Bungalo. While the property was decorated as described and the south of the boarder theme was carried throughout the house, important details were not included in the description of the home. It does have two bedrooms, but one of the bedrooms is open to the main living space and lacks privacy. It doesn't have a door and the wall shared with the living room is only a partial wall. The backyard was described as secluded, but it's not. It has a privacy fence around most of the yard, but you are very close to neighbors and the house is positioned on a Main Street. The owners provided fluffy soft towels, coffee filters and coffee grounds, both of which were appreciated, but it wasn't enough to overlook the other issues. The air conditioning unit in the back bedroom was so loud we had to shut it off at night, the cable would go in and out of service and some of the cookware was dirty. Two of the three beds were so hard they were like sleeping on rocks. The biggest problem was the overwhelming smell of dust. The home has a basement. There is a large vent in the walkway between the living room and the kitchen. I assume the dust was heavy in the basement space, it was wafting up through the vent and overwhelming the rest of the house. We opened windows to try to air it out and it still didn't have an impact. It was not worth the cost of staying there.
Everywhere you look in Rosita's, some new bit of color or craft will catch your eye, and bring a smile to each moment. We chose this casita as a gathering spot for old friends, and what a great choice it was. We relaxed, caught up, made icy drinks and new memories. Being able to bring the dog was a wonderful bonus, and seeing her sprawled out in the back yard garden helped everyone realize the benefits of letting go of our daily grinds. The people of Hot Springs were super friendly, and we quickly established a morning coffee-sipping ritual on the shaded front porch, greeting our neighbors out for their dog walks or bike rides. Spa tub options: indoors or outdoors, how cool is that? The nearby river walk provided a welcome stroll all the way to the grocery store--all of town is handy on foot. By car: attractions abound. Don't forget carrots for the donkeys at the state park. Look for a small reservoir that's a bit of a local's secret, where we swam away the heat. Simply, ahhhh.
What a lovely charming place! I am still in there in my thoughts. The house has a very warm and southern atmosphere, the owners did an excellent job decorating the interior and the backyard. We have enjoyed our evenings cooking in the kitchen or barbequeing outside and the garden offered fresh herbs to our taste. We did soak in the jacuzzi one night gazing at the stars. I highly recommend the property to travelers that would like to be close to Mount Rushmore.
