Family owned cottage near our childhood home. Our family has looked after this cottage on behalf of other owners for many years. We recently decided to purchase it for our use.
Jan purchased this cottage in 2009
This area is close to amenities, and well serviced, yet has a truly removed-from-it-all feel. Lots of great boating right at the dock. Sparrow Lake is only five minutes down stream. Georgian Bay, Lake Couchiching, and all the other great places on the Trent-Severn are close by. The Torrance Barrens is a 20-minute drive. The private Muskoka Wildlife Park is 10-minutes away.
It's so wonderful to wake up in the morning and sit out on the porch and enjoy breakfast while looking over the river and the birds and wildlife. Later in the day we have a choice to go biking, hiking, or boating right from the cottage.
We enjoyed our stay a lot at Jan's cottage. The place was clean and cozy and backyard is fantastic. We enjoyed our boat ride a lot on the beautiful lake sparrow and used the campfire every night. Jan was very responsive to our questions and requests.
We enjoyed our stay very much. The cottage was clean and so comfortable, including the beds, sofas, etc. It was super quiet which made the stay even more relaxing. We all enjoyed the large dock and Huge frontage. We made fires in the fire pit everyday and watched the boats go by.
It was great to have the option to sit on the screen porch even though the mosquitoes were not bad when we were there. We would definitely go back again. The only drawback was that there is no beach area for young children to swim and there is a lot of vegetation in the water, which for me, is not appealing to swim in, so I didn't.
This is a great place for my daughter, grandchildren and I. We played badminton, some bored games. Kids and there mom went fishing and swimming there. It's relaxing and sitting at the dock reading. There's lots of board games, kitchen supplies. Been here twice never want to leave. The neighbours are also friendly.
This cottage was fantastic. Kitchen was well stocked with plates, cups, glasses and appliances, so there was no need for wasting plastic cups, cutlery and plates. The rooms were super cozy. The backyard space is huge, allowing for tons of space for activities. The river is gorgeous, and perfect for swimming and boating. Good tree cover too so you're not in the sun the whole time in the backyard. The sun room was a great place to eat and still feel the outdoor breeze, while avoiding bugs at the same time. Plus, the HBO was a fantastic bonus. I can't think of anything bad to say. 10/10
Nice little cottage, it offered everything 8 guys from work were looking for. A place for the guys to play cards, have a few drinks and reminisce for the weekend.
The two nights were cold so we cranked up the fireplace and it provided more than enough heat for the whole cottage.
One night we had a nice campfire but it was cut short due to rain.
Norman Bethune House is nearby, in Gravenhurst.
The Torrance Barrens preserve is a 15-minute drive from the cottage, along Muskoka Road 13. Directly on the Trent-Severn waterway. Only 2 KM from Sparrow Lake. Some of the best fishing in Central Ontario right off the dock. The famous Carden Plain bird-watching area is about 40 minutes to the east of the cottage.
