Oceanfront Cottage w/ deck, 8 kayaks, dock, 5 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 9)
While originally from Maine, we currently live in Florida. We bought this home in 1998 to be able to spend more time near our family. When not there ourselves, we love sharing the home. It's a great location, a warm environment, and the kayaks are just such a treat. The nearby islands are fantastic to explore. We've worked very hard to make the home enjoyable for our guests, and it is fully supplied with everything you should need. We also try to have laundry, dish and dishwasher detergent, tin foil, baggies,etc....all those sort of things you don't want to have to buy for a short stay. We also put in comfortable and quality bedding. While not "fancy" - it's a great house!!
Barbara purchased this House in 1998
Why Barbara chose Stonington
Having grown up in Maine, but now living in Florida, I was homesick! So we bought a fixer upper and the whole family pitched in and helped us fully renovate this former 'lobsterman's family home'. With very few homes actually waterfront on Stonington Harbor, this home was unique and really special.
What makes this House unique
This home is right on the harbor, and only a few minutes walk to downtown. And the dock is fantastic....we have 8 kayaks to use! This is the best location for kayaking out to the nearby islands. We have many return guests...so I guess they like it as much as we do!
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date. 50% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
Great location, well equipped, needed some upkeep and some areas needed more thorough cleaning. We still enjoyed our stay and Stonington is terrific. Very nice to go to dock to buy fresh lobsters as the lobstermen are coming to dock.
Hope to return
We loved our stay in Stonington. The house was perfect for our family. Everything you wanted was walking distance. Great restaurant just 2 doors down. The town in quaint and a great place to go to relax. We did Eco tour which we really enjoyed. Stonington is not the place o go if you are looking for touristy type things to do. It is for those who want to relax, hike, kayak and just enjoy the views. We bought lobster from co op and steam at the house. Perfect
So glad you enjoyed your stay. You are right, the location in town and pace on the island makes for such a fun yet relaxing vacation.
Barbara is a great host! Our favorite. We love the house. It’s a perfect location. And great house.
We love staying here. The location is perfect. We enjoy watching the sailboats come in and out of the harbor from the deck. The kayaks are so easy to launch right from the back yard and we jump off the dock into the cove right there at high tide for a swim. Walking distance to all the restaurants and shops right in town and everything is so accessible. Always thankful to Barbara for such a great place and perfect hosting!
You are the best guests. Keep coming forever!!
Idyllic Maine Coastal Village
We loved our stay in Stonington! The views from the house were absolutely gorgeous, and the location is perfect. Stonington is a gem. Large enough to have what you want--coffee shop, grocery, several great restaurants, an opera house (!)--and small enough to be friendly and cozy. It's also a great base to explore. We went up to Acadia and Bar Harbor one day (the athletic in the group hiked and the rest of us explored Bar Harbor). The house is equipped with everything you can imagine--and some you might not: binoculars! We used the kayaks to explore the harbor and neighboring islands. We also took the ferry to Isle au Haut and hiked there. And Barbara is wonderful. She's readily available and gave us great tips on kayaking and what else to see. Also, don't miss the Fin and Fern restaurant, two doors down from the house. They have wonderful espresso and pastries for breakfast--and every other meal there is wonderful too. We'll be back!
Thank you so much. It was a delight to have you enjoy our area and home! You are always welcome!!
Very well kept and organized. Great communication with owner. Highly recommend.
Lovely spot on the harbor, fully equipped home, great host, and kayaks galore!
We had a wonderful time ... better than we could have imagined! Barbara was a fantastic host who responded quickly to every question, has filled her lovely house with everything you could possibly need, and a bevy of kayaks on the dock ready for exploration in the archipelago of islands just beyond the harbor. We were only there for 2 nights and all 6 of us wished we were there for longer and agreed we’d easily return. Lobster etc is easily available, either from the dock or through a woman whose name is on the refrigerator! Evenings on the harbor were delightful, made even more special by the twinkly lights (and tea lights) one of our group had brought from home to adorn the deck. A little slice of paradise.
The home is particularly well situated to kayak out to nearby islands beckoning for exploration. Two minute walk to downtown shops, galleries, museum, restaurants and much more.
