Casuarina Bay is an exceptionally beautiful, secluded eco-friendly Sea to Sea estate on the island of Eleuthera, in the Bahamas.
Just two properties, next door to each other, share this very private bay on the Atlantic, skirted by miles of pink sand beaches.
Easily accessible, Casuarina Bay is just 1 hour by air from Miami, and only seven miles from Governors Harbour airport. It's located 1.5 miles northeast of the lovely village of Governors Harbour, one of the oldest settlements in the Bahamas.
The house was designed to take in the extraordinary views and off-shore breezes of the Atlantic Ocean from every room as well as the virgin land and spectacular sunsets to the west.
It nestles amidst picturesque groves of Coconut Palms, Papaya, Sea Grape, Sea Apple and Casuarina trees. The fragrant frangipani waft their intoxicating aroma while the hibiscus bloom fresh flowers each morning.
The property is also blessed with other exotic plants such as ponciana, sour orange, surinam cherry, guinep, soursop, sapodilla and passion fruit.
Ocean-lovers will find some of the best snorkeling, scuba diving and swimming in the world. Underwater visibility is up to 100 feet, with water temperatures ranging between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
It's hard to find a more beautiful sea anywhere in the world. Sit back and delight in the changing colours of the sea and sky. Or jump in and watch the magic below the surface.
There's a barrier reef just offshore so Casuarina Bay Beachfront House has protected waters and no rip currents. It's excellent swimming for all ages.
For more information and many more photographs, please visit the link at the bottom of the page.
The adventurous traveler can explore nearby islands and virgin coral reefs, swim with dolphins or exotic tropical fish, or charter boats for world-class bone or deep-sea fishing.
Other sports available on the island include sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, spearfishing, tennis and surfing.
The rustic Beachfront House was designed and built to savor the incredible natural unspoiled beauty of Eleuthera. It's only 20 yards from its own pink-sand beach, so wherever you are in the house you have breathtaking views in all directions. To the east you see the turquoise ocean and glistening beach. Looking to the west your eyes rest on untouched green hills and colourful Caribbean sunsets. At night the brilliance of the stars and moon are unforgettable.
This romantic wooden house sleeps up to 8, with 4 bedrooms (1 king, 2 queen (1 with A/C) and one with twin beds that can be made into a king- also with A/C), 2 bathrooms, living and dining room, kitchen, decks on 3 sides(with 2 tables for al fresco dining). Two of the bedrooms have air conditioning. The other two bedrooms and the living areas and kitchen do not have air conditioning, but instead they have large doors/windows to capture the ocean breezes and fans. The garden (queen) has exterior access only.
Relax on our private beach in the thatched cabana, with a freshwater shower.
This is a perfect location for the adventurous traveler looking to enjoy the natural beauty of this magical island.

All I have to say is I'm Looking Forward to next summer!
(in a good way)
Wonderful stay. Our hostess was very gracious and attentive to the details of a wonderful beach getaway. Couldn’t find a better location on the island (nestled between two of the most distinct and enjoyable beaches on the island). The home had all the amenities to allow us to relax, albeit having so much outdoor living space and wonderful breezes limited indoor times to a minimum. We truly enjoyed the cabana by the beach which always stayed shady and captured the cool ocean breeze despit the heat of the day. Lucked out with clear skies and a full moon! Amazing. Recommend the vacation to all who are looking for a peaceful break from daily life where worries drift away.
Perfect for rest & relaxation!
We stayed at Causarina Bay in February of this year and loved our time there. I still wake up disappointed that I'm not back in the master bedroom where I woke to a gentle breeze, the sound of waves, and a view of sunrise. It made every morning special. The house was a great location and had everything we needed. Access to French Leave beach was easy, we walked to town several days, and loved the privacy. Having rented on Eleuthera before as well as in the Abacos several times, we've seen many kinds of rentals. This was comfortable, spacious, and had everything we needed (ex: good wifi, coffee makers, sharp knives, beach & bath towels). The outside space - both cabana and deck - were ample and inside was very comfortable. Taja was communicative and responsive and very easy to work with. It's a great getaway if you're looking for peace and quiet. We'd definitely go back.
Great beach and location but all downhill from there.
Arrived around 4PM to a locked house and no key under any of the dozen or so conch shells we searched. Calls and emails to Taja went unanswered for 1 1/2 hrs. Our neighbors in the Round House next door had the same problem. After almost 2 hours, the cleaning lady finally arrived to let us into a house which had not been cleaned or prepped and had no electricity (we lit lots of candles). In the morning still no power. As a result, all perishables had to be tossed. We did a walk through and were very disappointed. The house is beyond rustic and in need of a serious up-grade. If there were any electrical or plumbing codes, they were not followed. Many cupboard and closet doors are sagging, off their tracks, broken, etc. Notes are taped to many of the doors and windows. One note on an outside door says, "To close the door, push in gently, lift up 1/2" until it fits, then lock w/the wooden handles." The four bedroom house is very small. Eight people would be stumbling over each other. One bedroom is outside in a basement like area with no direct access to the main house. The hot tub was not usable. The outside areas and under the decks are congested with old building materials and junk in general. Electricity continued to be a problem. Calling the listed number for the power co. resulted in lots of busy signals. We finally drove into town and found the location of the office to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, we were without power nearly half of our total time in the house. We have rented many vacation homes over the years. This was, by far, our worst experience.
We are deeply sorry about the emergency that resulted in the house not being properly prepared- of course this is never acceptable and nor should it be. Guests are encouraged to contact our local caretaker who can immediately resolve issues that arise with the property regarding keys, electricity, internet etc.
The Beachfront house is a home primarily- rental property second and only rented a few months of the year thus there are some cupboard that are locked and not accessible to guests- if guests try to open them I can understand that they would show signs of being broken. Being in such a remote located it is very difficult to immediately replace a broken cupboard door but ongoing upgrades to the house are made frequently. Most recently we added a 1300 square food new deck- which is ample room for 8 guests. The interior of the house is indeed unique and rustic and perhaps not as big as some other 4 bedrooms houses but the outside space if much larger and we highly recommend being outside to enjoy the beautiful views and ocean breezes. The information provided to guests such as directions to open a tricky window was provided to assist and benefit guests- we have found that most guests find it helpful to have such information. The recent massive front deck remodel has resulted in a short term issue of having excess building materials stored behind the house underneath back deck- out of sight unless you are underneath the back deck which is not recommended. The hot tub is not available for guests to use and is thus not listed as a feature of the house. There are been a number of power outages in recent months which is unfortunately completely out of our control. If loosing electricity for a couple of hours is something that is completely unacceptable we recommend that you consider staying on a different island and not Eleuthera. Should you have questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact us for clarification. It is deeply upsetting to have even a small minority of guests who aren't completely happy with their stay and we will continue to take complaints very seriously and make adjustments accordingly. Thank you.
Lower your expectations
Unfortunately, disappointing. First the pro's: Beautiful location, including stunning beaches. Nice cabana. The house has the potential to be very nice. The con's: First, at least in the Summer, it is uncomfortably hot and humid. Ocean breezes only go so far, and then only if they are blowing. In fairness, the house was advertised as having only two window units, so this is more an observation than a criticism. However, the house was advertised as having wi-fi, satellite TV, and a DVD player. The first was spotty, the second got only two channels other than shopping, and the third simply didn't work. I didn't go to the Bahamas to watch TV but I would not have picked this house had I known the truth. The house also needs an exterminator. Lastly, we had only one functional toilet for five days, and the second toilet barely worked (taking at least fifteen minutes to re-fill). The place needs work, especially for the price.
Thank you for your feedback. We are always looking for way to improve our guest experiences and we have added 3 excellent new high speed fans to help cool the house in the summer months. We have also re-activated channels to our satellite TV subscription so there are more options. Guests are encouraged to bring movie on their devices for reliable options rather than rely on DVD player or high speed internet in such a remote place. We regret that there was a toilet issue during your stay- we had a plumber to the house within 24 but the problem had to do with a water pressure issue from the town water supply and was difficult to immediately identify & rectify however both toilets are now functioning correctly as they should. We are pleased that you enjoyed the beaches, cabana and location of our house and thank you for your candor and helping us make the experience better for future guests.
pleasant, beautiful location and serene
Our family stay was great here, and the location was everything. French Leave Beach was our favorite beach, as well as the Twin coves beach which was all walking distance from the house (a huge plus).
The only thing I would say, just to help the owner make a better air bnb stay for large groups or families, is that it would be nice if some kitchen utensils and necessities were updated, such as the coffee maker (which was broken), as well as get new pans, maybe add a few other things like new kitchen knifes etc. We love to cook, so that was a bit annoying to deal with when you are staying in an isolated area and want to cook properly for a whole family. I found the kitchen lacking some key things. The "welcome book" with all the information needed for our stay, also needs to be updated. It was disorganized with many pages missing or not in order, so we couldn't use it. But that's really all. There is no AC on the top two bedrooms, in case anyone is wondering, but it was very breezy so it didn't bother us as much. The owner was very nice and solved some issues that came up during our stay, as quickly as she could. We also LOVED Cindy who works for the property owner and helped us with extra cleanings and fun island information. We would definitely go back and rent again if the kitchen was fine tuned :-) Loads of love and thanks again !
Thank you for your helpful ideas- we will absolutely upgrade the kitchen appliances and get the new items that you suggested. We have replaced the coffee pot and appreciate your suggestions about how to improve the stay for future guests. We are working on a much more thorough and well organized guest binder and will have it completed and in the house shortly- we will also be emailing a Eleuthera island guide out to guests prior to their arrival so that they can better prepare and plan for their vacation. Thank you again for your suggestions. Best wishes and we hope you come back and stay again in the future.
Fall asleep and wake up to the soothing sound of the ocean. Other Activities: Wonderful snorkeling, swimming and kayaking right off the beach in front of the house. The 2 best beaches on the island are on either side of you: Club Med (French Leave ) beach and Twin Coves both only 5-7 minutes walk. Close to Governors Harbour (1/2 mile to the Beach House) but you have the privacy of only one other property on the whole bay. Fantastic if you want to get to the best beaches without driving - for your morning coffee or to watch the moonrise. Superb bird and sky watching.
