My family has owned this property since the mid seventies. I've lived here permanently for 17 years. My husband and I consider moving back and building at some point in the not-so-distant future but until then it gives us pleasure to share it with other like-minded, nature-loving, serenity seeking guests.
Dee purchased this Cottage in 1975
Why Dee chose Surry
Pristine refuge on a quiet, tide-charged, nature abundant, deeply wooded, ocean front peninsula. 15 miles from the village of Blue Hill, 8 from the village of Surry. Exquisite opportunities for biking, hiking, boating, swimming, roasting marshmallows and sitting around a campfire. Great refuge from the crowds and easy distance 45-60 minutes from Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor for day tripping.
What makes this Cottage unique
Waterfront tranquility, access to nature, privacy and stunning views across the bay to Acadia National Park. Perfect for sailing. You are welcome to anchor right out front. Kayaks can be rented and dropped off right at your doorstep. This sort of deep water pristine shorefront, where you walk to the beach from your front yard, is an increasingly endangered species. Enjoy it while it lasts!

The cottage, the setting, the location and the owners are beyond beyond expectation! We looked for a special place to celebrate our 30th anniversary and certainly found it. The cottage was whimsical, comfortable, spotlessly clean, filled with countless thoughtful touches for guests and just a great place to hangout, cook, nap, read, watch the sunrise or the stars and just plain relax. The location is central to Acadia as well as the other wonderful sites on Blue Hill Peninsula for exploration. Dee and John have created an oasis and are wonderful people. Rent this place. You will not regret it!!
14 seconds. That's how long it takes to walk from your deck to the stairway leading to the beach. When searching for the perfect vacation spot for myself and my husband, I loved everything I saw and read about Dee's cottage. The pictures showed a whimsical setting with a great view and the many glowing reviews sealed the deal for me. It did not disappoint. The distance to the beach is even shorter than what it appears in the photos. We walked on the beach every day, along with our dog Lily, who loved this vacation as much as we did! We also enjoyed the fire pit each night, which apparently is painstakingly re-built each year by another guest who has chosen this magical spot for an annual retreat. A special thank you to that guest(s)! Driftwood is the best for fires, add a little dried seaweed for just the right amount of snap, crackle and pop!
Like so many others have mentioned, our day started each morning with coffee/breakfast on the deck. The view is so peaceful! The setting is private and secluded. Next time we come, we'd love to bring friends or family and rent the studio apartment which is on the same property, but offers plenty of privacy for both structures.
Dee has furnished the cottage with such a magical touch. The colors are fun and whimsical. While other guests raved about the many local restaurant choices, we preferred to cook at home every night, except for one. The kitchen had everything we needed, including great dishware, a selection of wine glasses, pots/pans, etc. And the grill got used every day too! The bedding was superb, bed was super comfy and I enjoyed my nightly "tub time" in the awesome antique claw foot tub; with a glass of wine of course!
If you like quiet, it couldn't be more peaceful. The silence broken by the occasional crow, seagull or small jet headed to Bar Harbor. For a commuter to Boston every day, it was a much needed change of scenery. The area roads are easy to navigate with looks to observe and the plethora of little inlets and coves offering picturesque New England scenery. Often, you may feel you're in Peugeot Sound (absent the Snow-capped Olympia Mountains).
Dinner in Blue Hill's Arborvine Restaurant was personal and delicious. Our server Gary was on the spot with fresh drinks, explanation of the building's history and connoisseur of the menu. We loved Bar Harbor so much, we made two day trips; as much for the view, as the Bloody Mary's.
Thank you, for creating such a magical setting. We'll be back!
We love this place!
This is our 5th or 6th stay here and driving down the private lane always feels a bit like coming home. We love sitting on the deck watching the sun rise over the mountains of Acadia across the bay or the changing light on the water over the course of the day. Some years we swim on the beach down below, others we just sit and watch for birds and seals. The cottage itself is comfortable and decorated with an artist's touch. The kitchen has everything we need for the occasional cooking we do (we eat out a lot) and the grill is perfect for us. Dee, the owner, is warm, funny and helpful. She knows the area really well and always has great suggestions for areas to explore , galleries to check out or restaurants to try. And we find the cottage's location perfect for exploring the area--north towards Bar Harbor, to Blue Hill, Stonington and Deer Isle, or down to Belfast.
We loved our stay at Dee and John's property. The cottage is immaculate with all the necessary equipment for a comfortable stay! The weather was fantastic and the views amazing with the full moon cooperating as it rose over Cadillac Mountain every night. Enjoyed golfing, kayaking and visiting Southwest, Northeast and Bar Harbor on MDI. Perfect for a relaxing, beautiful weekend with friends and family! Would definitely rent again. Same goes for the studio cottage which we also rented.
Perfect in All Reguards
Great location, beautiful cottage and outstanding views. We would stay there again and highly recommend this rental to anyone who wanted to experience the best that Maine has to offer. T
Lovely cottage with an even lovelier view
We had a wonderful week's stay at Dee's magical place! Great location that is close to Blue Hill, Ellsworth, and MDI. Spent a couple of days at Acadia, but our favorite day was spent at Castine and right at the cottage. The waterfront is breathtaking! There are fantastic restaurants nearby and a large grocery store 20 min away in Blue Hill. We've stayed all along the coast of Maine, and the Blue Hill area is by far the most beautiful! We will be back. Thanks so much Dee!

Pets are $100 additional, each pet. They must first be approved by me, have their rabies shots and flea and tick meds, get along with other dogs and people, and not be habitual barkers. If you've stayed with me before, it's likely that I will just charge for one pet even if you bring 2. Just talk with me ahead of time? Thanks!
