Overview

Durango Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed & 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

There are only a handful of vacation rental properties in the Durango area that have the exquisite views and location that this cozy log cabin offers. But don't worry - it is easy to get to even in the winter!!

As you drive to The Primrose Mountain Cabin, the peace of the aspen and spruce forest envelopes you. Don't be surprised to see deer or elk on the way. When you step out of your car the jaw dropping views will entrance you.

No matter the season the Primrose Mountain Cabin is the pefect place for your Durango vacation. The pristine beauty of this area, just 20 minutes north of Durango and 12 minutes south of the Durango Mountain Ski and Summer Resort, just seems to take you to another peaceful world. Here you will appreciate an area that has not been over developed and retains its rugged mountain beauty and historic western charm.

The Primrose Mountain Cabin is an immaculate little piece of heaven with a large living and dining area off of which is the front deck and its breathtaking views. A perfect place for a barbecue or just to relax. A newly added sunroom provides a second area for family fun. (For example, it provides a second peaceful living area in case part of the family does not want to watch T.V. in living room.)

In the winter you can catch the twinkling of the sun off the snowscapes out your large floor to ceiling windows or snuggle by the fire. You are in someplace special - away from the highrises and the crowds. You really get a feel for being in the Colorado mountains.

The cabin sleeps 8 with a king bed in the loft bedroom. The second bedroom, with a queen bed, has its own sitting area, bathroom and deck (and of course the views). The third bedroom also offers a queen bed. There is also a double sofa bed in the main living room.

Watching the big game or a movie is a treat with the

42'HD T.V with Blue Ray in the living room. Each bedroom has its own T.V. so everyone gets to watch what they want!

There are cabins ...but what makes this cabin very special are the two private decks that overlook the incredible valley below and facing 11,000 ft 'Hermosa Cliffs'. (We call them cliffs, vistors call them mountains!) You are in the heart of the mountains but an easy 20 minute drive to downtown Durango. What location could be more perfect??

The easy hike to the beautiful Electra Lake makes this location even more perfect. You can enjoy boating, fishing, hiking, or dining on the lake in an historic sporting club built in 1929. Once you get to the lake, the views over the lake and mountains are breath taking! Haviland Lake is also a 5 minute drive. Wonderful fishing can be found here too. There are trails around and near the lake that will take you to some incredible scenery. Even our weather, with over 300 days of sunshine almost no humidty and powdery snow in winter is near perfect.

If the kids want to swim or you would like to work out there is a fitness center with indoor/outdoor heated swimming pool and day spa just 4 minutes away at The Tamarron Resort. Or enjoy Trimble Hot Springs or The Durango Recreation Center for more swimming options.

Just 12 minutes north is the Durango Mountain Resort (formerly Purgatory) where almost every winter sport and activity is available. In the summer it offers concerts, world class mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, jeeping, and more. Top rated golf courses are just minutes away.

Twenty minutes south is the Western historic town of Durango with shops, resturants, and home to the famous Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. You can enjoy white water rafting, rodeos, hot springs, and more. Mesa Verde, home of the ancient 'Cliff Dweller American Indians' is a short drive away. Since this cabin is at about 8400 feet it is often ten degrees cooler than downtown Durango and enjoys summer temperatures in the 70s and 80s and cool mountain night sleeping!

What an amazing cabin. We came for our family vacation and have had the most amazing time. The view is awesome. We got to see lots of wild life including a herd of elk in the fields you can see from the back deck. We could not have asked for a better place to spend our family time.

We will recommend and be back to the Primrose Cabin. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this cabin for 4 nights in early September 2016, as part of a 2 week vacation around Colorado and Utah. I took my parents (now retired) on their first visit to the Mountains, and this cabin was absolutely perfect for our stay in the San Juan's. We had 4 adults in the cabin, and their was plenty of room for us all. The cabin was very clean, comfortable, and had all the comforts of home. We all loved the decorations, and found everything in great working order. The views from the deck are incredible, morning coffee was never so relaxing.

We spent much of our time in the Silverton area (hiking, Jeeping, etc) and that is a bit of a drive if you're doing it daily, you have to cross a couple mountain passes, but returning each night to the cabin was such a wonderful welcome. We were bummed to find out you must pay to visit Electra lake, even if you walk down to it. So if you plan on going down, bring money or you can't even walk around it. Silly when you consider the incredible lakes and views everywhere else that don't cost anything.

The property manager was responsive and very easy to work with. We had a couple of questions upon arrival and they were answered quickly. We did all of our cooking at the cabin, and the kitchen was well stocked for it, no issues with any of the appliances.

This was my first time using VRBO, and it definitely won't be my last. It also won't be my last visit to the Primrose cabin, the pictures really don't even do it justice, the place is fantastic. My parents fell in love with the cabin, we probably could have spent our entire vacation here. Can't wait to come back!

Beauty Unsurpassed

My husband and 7-year-old son stayed at the Primrose and we loved it. We sat on the deck with our coffee most mornings and enjoyed the amazing view. The cabin is clean, updated and the beds are quite comfy. Absolutely no complaints. Water pressure is great. All appliances work (and we used them all) and the cabin met ALL of our needs. I really enjoyed sitting in the porch room with the windows open. Although we did not get down to Electra Lake, we did take a short 5-minute drive to the Haviland Lake Trail and hiked this moderate trail for 3 hours. It was amazing. We took lots of pics and wore repellent (no bites). We drove to Mesa Verde and hiked to Balcony House -- this is a once-in-a-lifetime MUST DO. Great tour guide and well-worth the drive up. We also did the one-hour Mild to Wild white water rafting trip through town on the Lower Animas River. Perfect for our son. For dinner one night, we made reservations at the Bar D Chuckwagon show. We had a ball! Food was good, music was great and we laughed a ton. The pinnacle of our trip was the train ride from Silverton to Durango. We had high expectations for this tour and were not disappointed. The wildlife, river rapids, evergreens, mountain vistas -- we saw it all. We have traveled throughout the US and abroad, and the Durango area is one of THE most beautiful areas in the country. It was very nice coming home to the Primrose Cabin each night after a long day of activities. Waking up each morning to those views was heavenly. This is a beautiful home and we felt lucky to be there.

Amazing cabin, exactly as described

My family enjoyed a wonderful one-week summer vacation. It was a fantastic location and view and comfortably appointed with lots of lounging/sitting spots for the entire family. It was an easy drive to Durango and well worth the slightly extra time driving to get the fantastic view!

Great Cabin for Ski Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cabin for 2 families (8 of us total). It is a great place with plenty of room and fairly easy to get to even in the winter (provided you have at least an AWD vehicle). I highly recommend. The manager was very helpful and checked on us day of arrival and day of departure. Fantastic!

Great Cabin Great Manager

  • 5 of 5

This is a great cabin that is well appointed and in beautiful condition. The views are great. I loved going to Electra Lake close by. Such a beautiful site. The cabin is close to a lot of different activities whether in Durango or Silverton. The aspens were changing and it was amazingly beautiful.

Kimberly, the manager is the best. I've never had such great service and care from a VRBO manager.
