Greve in Chianti Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

Farmhouse, 1 Bedroom + Other (See Description), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

The property is located just 12 miles from the center of Florence and from the moment you pass through the iron gates you will feel as though you have entered another world as time stands still. Nestled in the verdant hills of pristine Chianti landscape lies Le Valle, a 16th Century Casa Colonica with a lovely guest house. Many centuries ago it was a farm house and guard tower for the nearby Castello Mugnana. The entire property was magnificently restored and the owners paid exquisite attention to every detail. Furnished with 18th century Country French antiques, chandelier lit throughout, and adorned with European fabrics and accessories, this property will at once take your breath away and make you feel enveloped by warmth.

The guest house, just across the front patio and down a few steps, has its own fully equipped kitchen, a beautiful marble bathroom, a wonderful fireplace and it sleeps 4 comfortably. The property is ideal for a couple or a famiy with 1-2 children.

There are 3 separate terraces with tables and seating each with a more gorgeous view than the next. The BOSE Entertainment system provides music to the pool and patio areas. The tumbled marble salt water pool is 5x12 meters and has an electric cover. The pool area has lots of lounge chairs for reading or sunbathing and there are vistas that overlook two nearby castles. There is an organic garden for the use of our guests adjacent to the wood fired pizza oven and barbeque where you can dine alfresco under the beautiful vine covered pergola.

There are miles and miles of hiking trails right outside the door and a Roman road which dates back over 2000 years. You can find waterfalls and a swimming hole within a 15 minute hike from the house. One of the best restaurants in Tuscany is a spectacular 1 hour hike from the property.

The Superstrada and Autostrada are within 15 minutes by car. The village of Strada in Chianti is 4 km away where there are a few restaurants, food markets and a pharmacy. The town of Greve is 8 km away where you will find a Saturday open air market, wine tasting, shopping and cafes. The towns of Siena, Volterra, San Gimignano, Pisa, Lucca, Montepulciano, and Montalcino are all close day trips from the property. Florence is 20 km away.

We welcome those who have an appreciation for beauty and history as Le Valle encompasses the best of Tuscan life.

About Jody Turkus

We decided 15 years ago to move from the San Francisco Bay Area to Italy with our then 8 year old son for one year. That one year has turned into 15 years and we are still here! We bought our 'dream' house in the heart of Chianti 12 years ago and took a year restoring it. All of the furnishing and accessories were purchased in France. We brought our decorator over from California and she helped us create what is now a magical home and guest house. We have shared our property with many, many guests over the years and everyone leaves yearning to return. We hope that whoever takes the home this summer treasures it as we do.

Jody Turkus purchased this farmhouse in 2004

Why Jody Turkus chose Metropolitan City of Florence

We chose Le Valle because of the absolutely magical setting and the history and 'good bones' of the structures. Located just 20 km from Florence we are in the country yet have the advantages of Florence less than 30 minutes away. Additionally, we appreciated the hundreds of miles of hiking trails right outside our front door. We never have to get in the car to hike to a wonderful restaurant, or see a waterfall or pick wild berries.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Waking up to the sound of birds singing and the silence of the countryside. We look at a beautiful vista from every room of the house. The air is clean and the setting dreamy. Our local village of Strada in Chianti is close by so we can choose the best produce and local specialties from our merchants. We are the only American family, as far as we know in Strada, and the locals are very welcoming to us. We have over 300 olive trees and every Fall we harvest our olives and press our own delicious oil.

Perfect Place to Celibrate 25th Wedding Anniversery

We found the reviews on VBRO for the Le Valle guesthouse compelling and after staying there for one week in the middle of May 2016 we completely agree. The guesthouse at Le Valle is a wonderfully romantic place to stay and explore Tuscany. It is part Le Valle which is a villa that can be rented by a larger group when the owners are not there. We were so fortunate that we had the guest house while Barry and Jody where staying in the main house and they could not have been more delightful. Berry's suggestions and directions where so extensive that we could have filled another couple of weeks with activates and sites all reasonably accessible from this great location in the heart of Chianti.

The property is beautiful and very secluded so you feel like to have a little piece of privacy and serenity all about less than 30 minutes from the intensity of Florence.

It was unseasonably cool and rainy for mid May so we did not get to enjoy the pool and grounds as much as we would if it were warmer.

The guest house was perfect for two but a family of four would be ok with sleeping for four. Everything was as advertised and we would definitely stay in the guesthouse again or with a group using the main house too.

Our amazing experience

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Le Valle Villa guest house for two weeks in September 2015. We had a wonderful vacation which was made even better by the accommodations we had at Le Valle Villa. The villa is very well appointed, perfect for two with a lovely bedroom, bathroom and living spaces. Each window opens up to beautiful views of Tuscan hillsides and castles. The property which houses the guest and main house is outstanding with attention paid to every detail. Terraces are inviting and grand, the gardens are lush and the pool is a great place to relax, totally private. If you can cook a pizza in an outdoor oven then turn around and enjoy it under a grape lined canopy, would you! Well, start packing. We were greeted at the gates and taken care of by a lovely person who looked after the property. Loved her. The owners are very gracious and anticipate your every question with a well written reference book which listed sites, restaurants and wineries to visit. I would highly recommend this property especially if you appreciate good taste and fine furnishings. If your planning to visit Tuscany you will enhance your trip by staying at Le Valle Ville guest house.

Le Valle Villa guest house was fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

Our month long stay in September at Le Valle Villa guest house was fantastic. The house had all amenities anyone needs while exploring Tuscany. This was the perfect location, it allowed us to visit all four corners of the Chianti region.

The guest house is next to Le Valle Castle in a gated estate property with beautiful views, pool, and a natural barbecue area. BBQ setting was great for evening dinner alfresco under the Tuscany sun. The house is ideally decorated with French antique furnishings and equipped with all the little things that make the place so comforting. The property overlooks the hillside of olives and vineyards and neighbouring castles.

During our stay we explored the area around Le Valle. There are several hiking trails crossing vineyards, waterfalls, and authentic ancient roman roads. There are many wineries close by offering tours and evening dinners (strongly recommend a dinner tour).

The owners were fantastic, warm, welcoming, very knowledgeable and always helpful. They provided advise on things to do, recommended restaurants and suggested tours in the area for us to take.

We would return to Le Valle Villa without question and have been recommending the place to family and friends. The listing description is exactly as written, it's the place to stay under the Tuscany sun!

It's hard to describe in words the experience we had during our recent stay at Le Valle. To say it is stunningly beautiful and peaceful is wholly inadequate. This is a place that truly touches the soul and feeds the senses.

We loved watching the sunset over the castles in the valley while sitting by the pool sipping wine and listening to Italian music. We also enjoyed spending time with the owners, Barry and Jody, who are gracious, thoughtful and generous with their time and hospitality.

The location of the property is ideal for day-tripping. We really appreciated the comfy bed when we fell into it exhausted after each day's sight seeing. And waking up to the sound of birds singing and the prospect of breakfast on the patio was heavenly!

We have already recommended this property to several people planning upcoming trips to Italy. Our hope is that we will be able to return again and again to this place and these people that have imbedded themselves in our hearts and memories.

Thanks, Barry and Jody--you and Le Valle are the best!

Dream setting

  • 5 of 5

I spent a week with my wife and young daughter at Le Valle to the delight of us all. The guest house is impeccably maintained and has been updated with all amenities while staying true to the rural Italian cottage that it is. And to call it picturesque doesn't even begin to describe the setting. Nestled in the Tuscan hills, the property overlooks a castle and rolling hills covered in vineyards and olive trees. No matter which direction you look, you find a spectacular view.

When leaving the property, it is only a short drive to a large number of wonderful towns and the major cities of the region (Florence, Siena). Our hosts offered phenomenal guidance on where to go, what to do (a saffron farm, wineries, etc) and fantastic places to eat of course. If you are lucky enough to visit Le Valle when they are there, you will get to meet two of the loveliest and nicest people anywhere (and one of the friendliest dogs as well). I cannot recommend Le Valle enough. Definitely stay there if you are traveling to Tuscany. You'll love it!

Wonderful visit to La Valle

  • 5 of 5

At once breathtaking and warm, La Valle showed us Tuscany at its best. It was everything the listing said and more. From the big table in the kitchen where we gathered over expressos to plan our day to living room furniture that begged you to curl your feet under you as we reviewed our pictures from the day's excursions, La Valle adapted herself to our every need. In the week we were there we dined on each of the 4 terraces and by the salt water pool. Chef Fabrizio had a mouthwatering welcoming dinner our first night which was such a nice touch after our long journey. He was easily convinced to come back several more times to give us cooking lessons. The owners were very helpful about what to see and who to ask for on our local tours. The property managers were there when we needed them (on the phone when the delivery agent could not find the house with our lost luggage!!). Two of us stayed in the guesthouse with it's well stocked little kitchenette and luxurious bathroom. I was a little disconcerted that there was no air conditioning but the house remained cool and comfortable day and night and through the open windows at night we could hear and see the local wild boars eating apples under the trees. All in all it was a vacation to remember and it has set the bar for all future trips. The only problem we had was finding it the first time as the GPS could not locate it.
