BEAUTIFUL MOUNTAIN AND SUNSET VIEWS! BRING YOUR FAMILY AND BOAT!!
We invite you to unwind and relax in our charming cottage with glorious mountain and sunset views on Beautiful Lake Lure. You take only four short steps from the street and you enter into the top floor of our cottage renovated to include modern amenties while still retaining the rustic charm. We added old fashioned beaded board ceilings upstairs and refinished the original wood floors.
You will find one full bath (linens provided) with stack washer/dryer, vanity sink and tub/shower. Down the hall, you have two bedrooms, one with queen size bed and ceiling fan, and one with bunkbed with double mattress on bottom and twin mattress on top (children only on top bunk). You can step outside onto the upstairs porch to greet the morning with your tea or coffee and enjoy the glorious views of the lake and mountains on the swing or chaise lounges.
Downstairs is the living area with the original knotty pine paneling, with one comfy sofa and two chairs, (one chair is a leather recliner), to cozy up in front of the gas fireplace and enjoy the selection of books, games, satellite tv, dvd. Movies available at Ingles Grocery Store. Please note the sofa is not a sleeper sofa, however if needed, one guest may sleep on sofa with sheets and linens located in downstairs closet.
When you are ready to eat, you will find a fully stocked kitchen with microwave, frig, stove and a dishwasher to help clean up. You can move the cooking outdoors to the gas grill and keep an eye on the burgers from the downstairs back porch furnished with classic glider and chairs, and then eat outdoors on the picnic table.
While you are enjoying the back porch, yard, boathouse and lake, you will find for your convenience the second bathroom located on the back porch, which has a shower, sink and commode. A few steps from the porch brings you to about 12 stone steps leading to the deck on top of the boathouse with dining furniture and lounging furniture with those glorious views of the lake and mountains. Down another short flight of steps takes you to the dock where you will find a canoe (life jackets supplied) and a paddle boat for getting around the lake.
Try your hand at fishing where past guests have caught trout and bass, (and some have caught a quiet time), or go for a swim to cool off in the clear waters of Lake Lure. Remember the water is at least 15 feet deep in front of our boathouse! The Simple Life Cottage is located on the east side of the lake on a large quiet cove with a no wake zone (not far off the main channel), so that swimming, fishing, canoing and pedalling is safe and fun.
Selected as one of the ten most beautiful man-made lakes in the world by National Geographic, Lake Lure is nestled in the serene setting of the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. You will discover the magic and bounty of nature in this wondrous canyon known as Hickory Nut Gorge. Lake Lure was built in 1925 and consists of approximately 1500 acres with 27 miles of shoreline. Major motion pictures filmed here include Firestarter, A Breed Apart, Dirty Dancing, and Last of the Mohicans.
The iso-thermal belt provides enjoyable climate and four season splendor year round. For the 'active life' scenic attractions, parks, hiking, fishing, zip lining, horseback riding, white water rafting, and water sports, as well as waterfalls close by, good food, and quaint shops. For the 'simple life' relax and lounge on the deck on top of our boathouse enjoying the lake and mountain views with a good book.

We had a wonderful 12 days in your cute, little cottage. We greatly enjoyed all the many places to sit, relax, enjoy the views and listen to the calming splashing of the lake. The deck overlooking the lake is fabulous. With the canoe and pedal boat to explore the lake, and many nice places - Asheville, Hendersonville - close by to visit our days were quiet and relaxing but never boring. Thank you for sharing the "Simple Life" with us.
Great location at the lake, a few stairs, but really enjoyed our two week stay.
We plan on coming back next year.
The whole house is clean and very well maintained. Based on previous reviews, we brought paper products (paper towels, toilet paper and coffee filters), detergents (dish and laundry), foil, oil, spices...but we didnt really need any of it as there was some (probably left over from previous guests). Anyways, it's always good to come prepared. The Ingles 10min away on NC-9 is well stocked and we went there a couple of times to get groceries. The house was perfect as we cooked all our meals in the fully equipped kitchen (large fridge and freezer, electric stove, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster oven) and even used the gas grill for steaks. The bed (main bedroom queen) was comfortable and the bathroom was cosy, abundantly stocked with plush towels. We did not spend much time in the living room other than watching the olympics on cable tv while cooking. There was plenty of room for 2 adults, and we thought an additional adult and kid or a couple of kids would fit...not sure about an additional couple as the 2nd bedroom is a bunked queen and twin bed.
The houseboat was perfect for candlelit dinners under the stars. We took full advantage of the lake thanks to the provided water toys (blowup raft, canoe and pedal boat), swimming during the day (there's some nice shade by the pier) and canoeing/pedal boating to the middle of the lake to watch the sunset (splendid views!). The house is in a cove, but close to the main waterway. We did not want to leave and can't wait to go back!
After checking out, we went to the Lake Lure marina and took a boat tour (highly recommended! $15/adult), walked across the Flowering Bridge and visited nearby Chimney Rock State Park ($13/adult).
beautiful view. very well equipped. If you have Verizon cell service, it is very iffy. A very enjoyable place to stay.
This was a great find and the other reviews were right on target. The cabin is fully equipped and everything works. It is small, but in a great location on a cove and very comfortable and quiet. There were families all around us but everyone is respectful and somehow the noise of children splashing in the water was almost soothing. By 9 pm it was dead quiet. We brought kitchen items like trash bags, aluminum foil, seasonings, etc but really didn't need to. You will need to bring paper goods especially if you stay more than a few days. The owner was accessible by text message because we couldn't find the wifi password but it is written down on the bulletin board. Cellphone coverage is sparse and I had zero bars on Sprint, but ATT and Verizon (work phones) had decent coverage. The dock had everything you need including some water toys. Lake Lure is not terribly cold mountain water - I would say it was just right. We will definitely go back - perhaps in the fall.
The Simple Life Cottage was a perfect place for our four day getaway in late April. The Lake Lure area has such great opportunities for hiking, boating and enjoying the beautiful lake and mountain views. The climb and views from Exclamation Point at Chimney Rock were breathtaking. The pontoon boat tour was tons of fun. We had great meals in both Lake Lure and Chimney Rock.
Our time in the cottage was wonderful. So many places to relax and enjoy, right on the lake. The two porches on the lake side of the cottage were the perfect places to read, read, read. The master bedroom is just steps away from the upper porch. Great for morning coffee. The kitchen is fully outfitted, and the family room is perfectly cozy. The decor is perfect for a mountain lake cottage. The pedal boat made for a great way to tour the cottage's cove. The cottage provided everything we needed; it was unbelievably clean; and the owners were very pleasant and responsive.
We definitely hope to return, and we have already recommended The Simple Life Cottage to our family and friends.
