Alaska Chalet Rental Photos and Description

Chalet, 2 Bedrooms + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

In this peaceful neighborhood, you will find the perfect base camp for your Alaskan adventure. The Hinterland Chalet is designed to provide you with a cozy stay in Girdwood with full kitchen and sleeping amenities. This timber frame chalet boasts beautiful redwood siding. Built by climbers in 1983, the recycled redwood came from Anchorage's original REI store.

On the main floor, the kitchen and living area are surrounded by windows. The kitchen and bath have just been remodeled with new floors and counter tops. The floors are radiant heated for toasty toes no matter what the temperature outside. The bedroom on the main floor has a full sized bed and closet. The futon in the living room also folds out to a full sized bed. The main loft hosts a queen sized log frame bed where the moon shines bright on clear nights. This is the master bedroom of the house with a full closet. Up the ladder you can escape to the tree room for reading, relaxing, or gazing out through the forest. Complimentary coffee, tea, hot cocoa, and spiced cider are provided for your enjoyment.

The large deck with seating in front is perfect for relaxing after a hike, or, if you love a bonfire, warm up by the fire bowl. This 1,000 square foot chalet is well suited for families and friends in groups up to six people.

About The Owner

We have lived in Alaska for 30 years and love this beautiful state. We feel fortunate to be raising our family here and look forward to the time we get to spend in Girdwood skiing, snowboarding, hiking and just enjoying the laid back, friendly atmosphere.

The Owner purchased this chalet in 2010

Why The Owner chose Alaska

We chose this particular property due to its location. Located on a third of an acre on a quiet, dead end road, it is very peaceful. The cabin is surrounded by hemlocks and in the summer the hummingbirds and blueberries are plentiful. It is centrally located with several restaurants and the local grocery within walking distance. Whittier, Seward and Hope are easy day trips by car should guests want to explore places other than Girdwood.

What makes this chalet unique

St. Moritz sits at the base of Max's Mountain and ends shortly after our chalet. The neighbors are genuine and the blueberries sweet. When the sun shines, it warms the gravel roads and brings everyone out to visit and share stories. For the adventurous spirit, the back door leads to excellent powder skiing in winter and quiet hikes with bears, forest flowers and birds in summer. This is a quiet, serene place.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We just wanted to let you know how much we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your cabin! It was so peaceful and relaxing, we couldn't be happier with our decision to stay here! We would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Girdwood. Thanks again!

We stayed here from 9/3/15-9/13/15 with our 3 kids. The cabin really is a home away from home! We had a great time!!!! Loved the fact we had washer n dryer to use, the kitchen had all we needed, the beds was so comfy, beautiful view n quiet, internet, DVD's to relax in the evenings, if one is able to walk a few miles then yes you could do without a car,n very nice folks to rent off of, even though we didn't get to meet in person because of so many things to see n do. My in-laws are wanting to go stay there for next summer. Would definitely stay there again. We loved the bus trip in Denali National State Park...GREAT meal, got to see wildlife, n the view was awesome.

Owner's Response: Hi Laura! Thank you for the wonderful review. We are very pleased you enjoyed your time at the cabin. I, too, wish we would have had time to come down and meet you and your family, maybe next summer! It sounds as if you spent your time in Alaska well, visiting as many sights as possible. I hope your husband was able to catch some fish!! Best regards, Kathy, Alan and Alex

Wow!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is pretty close to perfect. We spent a full week here, visiting family, hiking, bicycling, relaxing. Loved the huge windows, the comfy bed, the great vacation kitchen, the deck and grill. The entry area was great for dropping off backpacks, coats, hiking boots, etc.--great way to keep our clutter out of the main living area. Very convenient having a washer and dryer right in the cabin. Hinterland Chalet felt like it could be my own home, and I hope to stay here again next summer.

Hinterland Chalet

My girlfriend and I stayed in the cabin for 4 nights. It is a cozy secluded spot that I really enjoyed. The owners were very approachable and friendly. The bed in the loft was so soft I wanted to take it home. The sitting room was very nice. I would have greatly appreciated a desk so that I could have done some work on my computer, but the counter between the kitchen and living room area worked. There are plenty of pots and pans, as well as a laundry area. The bathroom is nice and large with a great shower. I would recommend this cabin to anyone. It is a great value for the money.

Best stocked place we've ever stayed and awesome shower to boot!!!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was by far the best stocked place we have ever stayed. It had everything we could possibly need. Our trip was a family vacation for 5 adults. This cabin boasts nice fluffy towels, all the items you would need to cook a full meal (bring your own groceries of course), plenty pillows and blankets, and the most awesome shower head I've ever seen. We seriously considered packing the whole shower and flying it home, lol! Kathy was so easy to work with. She and her family definitely put thought into what they put in their cabin. Also, Kathy checked on us to make sure we made it in ok and that all was well. We weren't sure what to expect as far as the town but Girdwood was awesome!!! It has more if a local, less tourist town, kind of feel. We especially enjoyed all the local restaurants. We joked about being in a foodie town. This was definitely the best place to be!! Thanks Kathy for sharing your great cabin with us!

Owner's Response: Wow, Megan! Thank you so much for your kind words! We are very happy you enjoyed your stay at our cabin and loved Girdwood as much as we do! The local restaurants are fabulous and with it being centrally located, it the perfect place for a vacationer's base camp. We are also pleased you had such wonderful weather while you were here, Alaska is like a little slice of heaven during the summer. We enjoyed meeting you and your family and hope the rest of your trip was just as much fun. Thank you again!

Girdwood Chalet

  • 5 of 5

My husband and 4 year old daughter stayed in this cabin for five nights. It has a great location...close to a lot of hiking, not too far from Whittier, less than an hour from Anchorage, and less than a two hour drive to Seward. The cabin itself isn't secluded but does sit on a dead-end street. During our stay we didn't hear our neighbors once. The inside is great. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you'll need. The bathroom was roomy and the water pressure was fantastic. One of the bedrooms is upstairs and one is downstairs kind of close to the backdoor. I personally didn't want my young daughter spending the night upstairs because of the noise factor...we wouldn't have been able to watch tv, and I wasn't too comfortable with her being downstairs close to the door while we were upstairs so one of us ended up staying in her room. No big deal. Plus Kathy was great. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the cabin to anyone.
