1-bedroom cottage with wood stove, 2 decks next to stream

Relax in your private Woodstock cottage perched on the banks of a meandering mountain stream that flows through a shared mountainside estate on the south side of Overlook Mountain, just 1.5 miles from the Woodstock Village Green. This rustic 2-story cottage has been lovingly renovated and beautifully decorated with handcrafted imported furniture and original artwork. Prepare snacks and meals in your well-equipped kitchenette and serve them at the dining table by the wood stove in the winter, or on the deck overlooking the stream in the summer! Climb the open stairway to the second-level loft-like bedroom with a cathedral ceiling, sitting area, queen-size sleigh bed, and sliding glass doors that open onto a sunny second-level deck. Or rock in the porch swing that hangs below the deck in front of the cottage surrounded by gardens. Mountain Stream Retreat is the perfect hideaway for a romantic getaway or creative sabbatical. It’s peaceful and quiet, simple and clean, and the natural setting is both soothing and inspiring! Amenities include WIFI, AC, luxury linens, gas grill and wood-burning fire stove (wood provided).

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay in Woodstock. It's a very cute town with lots of shops and restaurants. The cabin is a 4 min drive to town. We are vegan and there are some amazing restaurants in Woodstock that serve beautiful, delicious food we could eat.

The cabin itself is very well maintained and although a little "rustic" the owner has added some unique touches with lighting being one of the most charming aspects. Nice balcony off the bedroom area with a view of the trees changing color this time of year. The porch swing under the balcony was nice for a cat nap and reading a good book.

We used the wood stove a few of the evenings but also used the baseboard heat which was controlled with a thermostat in the kitchen area. One drawback was the baseboard heat would come on in the middle of the night once the temperature dropped and was a bit noisy.

Small fridge, gas stove...both we used everyday cooking dinner or breakfast. Lots of organic natural food stores/groceries in Woodstock.

The mattress on the bed seemed firm enough but by morning I had a slight backache everyday. Maybe a new mattress is needed?

There is only one bathroom which is small with a very tight shower stall. For the more reasonable price of this private cabin compared to most of Woodstock, I wouldn't be deterred by any negatives mentioned in my review.

We would definitely go back again despite the fact Woodstock is 7 hours from our home in Pittsburgh, PA.

As an aside, we went when the annual Woodstock Film Festival was going on (we had no idea!). If you're into independent films, documentaries and seeing the North American Premier of such films ...buy tickets ahead on line for the popular movies. Alec Baldwin came to town for a film he was in during our stay. Celebrities come every year for this film festival if you like that sort of thing. ;-)

We also visited 2 farm sanctuaries which were within 30 min or so from Woodstock.

I wish we had the quiet and privacy this cabin offered at our house!😀򐀠I took some photos but I don't think I can post them here unfortunately.

Charming cottage in Woodstock

  • 4 of 5

We recently stayed for three nights in this quaint cottage in Woodstock. It was our first time in the Woodstock area. It was very peaceful, perfect for a quiet getaway. It's in a great location: close to town but just far enough where you can enjoy some quiet time and privacy in the woods. The downstairs is small, but the cottage is well-kept and stocked with all the essentials you'll need. I really enjoyed the loft-style of the bedroom, the upstairs is spacious. We enjoyed being able to open up the doors to the deck attached to the bedroom every morning for fresh air. I would recommend this cute little cottage for anyone looking to get away from busy city life.

Enjoyed our stay

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is very cute. Loved all the flowers and creek. The bed was very comfortable. Enjoyed sitting on the deck listening to the creek in the evenings. The cabin is located close to Woodstock. It was convinient to town and hiking trails. I would recomend taking your own towels. Only 2 are provided. There was plenty of green space to take the dog out. We enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful wooded mountain retreat with stream on property

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely one bedroom loft chalet type cottage with an extra air mattress if needed. The home was immaculate, well decorated, cozy and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay; a full size refrigerator and air conditioning was a bonus! all kitchen utensils and basic condiments were provided. The fron garden was lovely and attracted butterflys. There is a bbq on the front deck as well. The bathroom on the bottom floor is small but adequate. On the upper deck off the bedroom were two anti-gravity chairs which made evening star gazing amazing. I would most certainly return here; it was close to Woodstock and good dining and shopping, but far enough up the mountain to feel quiet and secluded. Fantastic!

Cozy cottage retreat

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely stay at Mountain Stream Retreat. The cottage is close enough to town for quick jaunts in but far enough away that you feel a sense of privacy from the hubbub of downtown. Easy access to Overlook Mountain for hiking and lots of beautiful wildlife - deer, wild turkey, etc roam the grounds along the babbling brook. We would definitely return to Mountain Stream!

Just What We Needed

  • 5 of 5

This is the perfect spot for quiet, relaxing couples getaway. The cabin is nestled on a gorgeous piece of private property just up the road from the main drag. It's an easy walk or a 2 minute car ride from the center of town. We spent a good deal of time just sitting on the two porches, enjoying the peace and quiet, listening to the babbling creek that runs below the property. Sleeping with the bedroom patio door and windows open every night was also really nice.

The description of the place was spot on. The cabin was clean and Chelsea was great with communication, making sure we were all set up and had everything we needed. We had some great meals at Cucina, the Bear Cafe and Phoenecia Diner and went on a beautiful hile up at Kaaterskill Falls - all highly recommended.

We really miss the sounds of the creek. We'll definitely be back.
