Holiday Tradition

  • 5 of 5

Lake Placid has been our Thanksgiving destination for almost 20 years! Our family has grown from 6 to 12 ( and of course the family dog) and Cedarcrest is by far our favorite location. This spacious and welcoming estate always thrills us when we open the front door. We know we will all have a comfortable, sizable bedroom, a kitchen not only with all the cooking utilities we need but a gorgeous view and space for many of us to be cooking at once. Both the kitchen and dining room table accommodates us all and the living spaces are varied for group tv watching (with a working fireplace) or quiet book reading. Cedarcrest invites us to truly "live" while vacationing with no worries of our grandkids running through the house or all of us coming in from outside activities. The property owners check in with us upon arrival leaving a number where they can be reached and the caretaker is just that: being sure there is enough wood for the fireplace, shoveling, plowing, and sanding if needed. We walk to our favorite Lake Placid haunts, yet at home we feel the quiet beauty of the Adirondacks. Thank you for sharing Cedarcrest!

Grand Setting

  • 5 of 5

Escaping NYC during the sweltering heat of the summer, found us in Lake Placid along with our four grandchildren. We rented this home base on the good reviews, but must admit we were a bit wary of the one scathing review on the site. Arriving at the home we felt the beauty of Nature and the seclusion of the setting. The grandkids jumped out of the car after the long ride and ran and ran around exploring the grounds. Going into the house we were greeted by exactly what was advertised, lovely antiques and period furnishings. I loved the themed rooms and could picture us spending long nights on the back porch with the kids playing below us. The house was clean and everything was in working order during our stay. Our time in Lake Placid, and of course visiting the North Pole, was just what we and the kids needed. It was always comforting to come home to this house after a long day of sightseeing and sports activities. The grand kids asked if we could come back again next year!! We will think about it, but may bring the parents next time!

Top Notch

  • 5 of 5

We found this house to be wonderful. The kitchen had everything you could want. The dining room fit all 13 of us which was such a blessing. They had plenty of bathrooms and hot water enough for all. The rooms were well decorated and the fireplace was delightful. The hosts were really pleasant to work with. We had a great weekend here and would definitely return. You could stroll into town and the views were terrific. Loved it!!!!

Fabulous Accommodation for Family Gatherings

  • 5 of 5

Cedarcrest is a very special place with a strong Adirondack identity and many wonderful antique details. Just as important for our three generations were the flexible accommodations of the en suite bedrooms, the large, welcoming kitchen, and the sweeping porch that looks out on the lake and mountains and even in rainy weather is prime seating for a crowd or just a couple. The kitchen is well-appointed, and the wi-fi was much appreciated for those of us who couldn't bear to leave work. The house is located on a hilltop in a neighborhood of houses of the same period but has the privacy and feel of a large, rural estate--yet it is just a few minutes walk from the downtown heart of Lake Placid. I doubt there are many Adirondack locations that can compete. The owners--who were quite well organized, made their expectations of guests clear, and provided complete written details about the house--made our large family feel quite welcome. I hope we'll be able to summon the family for a repeat visit.

The Best of Both Worlds!

  • 5 of 5

This house has it all! The feel of a great camp yet within walking distance to town, Lake Placid marinas, & Mirror Lake. We spent many hours on the back porch enjoying coffee or a cocktail and always the view of Lake Placid. The house has a well stocked kitchen and the owners are local and couldn't be more accommodating. A huge backyard is the perfect place to toss a Frisbee or a football. The longer you stay here the more you won't want to leave, one of the best vacations our family has ever had, full have swimming, boating, kayaking, & fishing and one we won't soon forget

Wow, is all I can say

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I came to wonderful Cedarcrest for a vacation. When we arrived the house looked exactly like the pictures. We entered the huge door and immediately saw the massive stone fireplace and wooden stairwell and floors. This was rustic, clean and well stocked with condiments, dishes, dishwasher, pots and pans etc. There were six of us and each of us helped ourselves to a bedroom, mine being the "Redroom". It is clear the sheets are hung out to dry as they smelled like the outdoors and not like a sheet of "Bounce" The bathtubs are the old fashioned claw type complete with shower. We were looking for something different than the usual and this home, with it's panoramic view was the perfect accommodation for us. The phone service is part of the package and was helpful in booking our hiking, canoeing, and kayaking events. We were able to walk downtown and hike around Mirror Lake (there really is not a monster there like the movie suggests, lol). We were able to wash our clothes which was wonderful as with our hiking etc we got pretty dirty at times and had not brought a lot of clothing with us. We took the liberty of hanging our cloths on the line in an attempt to replicate the outdoor smell. If you want the run of the mill hotel style accommodation, this is not the place for you. If you want something out of the ordinary and live in an different era, with the amenities of home slipped in, this is the vacation home for you and your friends and family. This would be a wonderful location for a family reunion as there is a large back and front yard, as well a very large back porch where one can rock and view the mountains and lake. My friends and I have booked Cedarcrest for two years from now and hope to do so every two years.
