Mary Beth & Glenn
We were born and raised in Philadelphia and spent our summers at the Jersey Shore.
That is where our love for the beach started
We have three children all boys and two grand-babies.
1997 we purchased Gulf Coast Recycling and made Lee County our home.
We also own a small barging company for the barrier islands.
Mary Beth D'angelo purchased this house in 2011
While visiting our friends in Naples (1987) we noticed a small ad in the local newspaper that said REMEMBER WHEN next thing I know we are on a boat to North Captiva Island. It was love a first sight, that week we purchased two lots and a boat dock, and have been property owners since. In 1991 we met June, who we purchased a boat from and found we had something in common North Captiva Island. For the next twenty years we helped June maintain her home, and had many happy memories staying at Rainbows End. June became ill in 2009, and after two years decided to sell her home to us. We were happy be to given the chance to purchased Rainbows End and will continue to make it a great place to visit. This home has a twenty year rental program with clients returning each year! Come and make you own memories! We would love to have you.
IT is all about the beach!
We are located on the North tip of the island.
Kingfisher Drive takes a sharp left when it meets the shore line, with only 7 homes on our sandy path. With four acres of undeveloped private property to the back of our home filled with wildlife, and the Gulf of Mexico to the front, you can take 30 steps to the waters edge. It is private and very peaceful here. Sit on our porch, gaze at the water and relax. Our motto is if you are coming to the beach you must stay on the beach! See you soon!
THANK YOU! MARY BETH & GLENN,FOR THE RENTAL OF YOUR HOME. IT WAS PERFECT IN EVERY WAY!!WE WOULD LOVE TO COME BACK SOON
This is the most perfect place. The beach is private and sandy with gorgeous shells. The wildlife is everywhere and up close. The house is clean, bright and really well appointed. Oh and Mary Beth gives you all the info you need to make your stay comfortable. Just follow her directions and you can't go wrong. My only mistake was only booking a week.
We just spent Christmas at Rainbow's End. It was a magical time for us. Mary Beth decorated the house for Christmas for us! It was beautiful!!! Had a Christmas tree in the master bedroom☺️ Mary Beth was wonderful in helping us through our first time visit to North Captiva Island. She gave us great advice in packing! less clothes and more food. Absolutely correct! She was always accessible to answer questions. She was there at the marina waiting for us and pitched right in to unload us and get us to the house and then helped unload! She's a dynamo in a petite sized package. The house is wonderful. Mary Beth gives this house lots of TLC. It's well maintained and immaculate! The kitchen is well equipped and organized. The location is by far one of the best on the island. The beach is very private and natural. We had a ball getting around in the golf cart. Even Lily (our lab) enjoyed the rides. You have to use the outdoor shower!!! The water pressure was great!!! And roomy. Our favorite spot was the screened in porch looking out over the water. We had most of our meals out there where we could enjoy the sound of the waves coming in on the beach. Lily LOVED the porch! She spent almost all of her time out there. The only thing we were not well prepared for was bugs. We went out at dusk our first night and were the main course for dinner for sand fleas and mosquitos. They are fierce! Bring plenty of bug spray! . We hope to return to North Captiva Island. The island experience was a wonderful adventure. Thanks Nary Beth for a great Christmas!
Rainbow’s End is the cleanest house I’ve ever seen, and that’s saying a lot. The VRBO photos are accurate, but they do not do the house justice, and working with Mary Beth was great. Our week at Rainbow’s End on North Captiva was the best week I’ve ever spent on vacation, period. I will echo other reviews: plan your meals, take twice the food you think you ought, and half the clothes. Honestly, I wore swim trunks or a pair of shorts, a T-shirt, and a straw hat the whole week. What a delight! It was astonishing, too, how quickly the sound of an internal combustion engine became irksome to me (and I am no tree-hugger!). Our trip was filled with driving the electric golf cart on those sandy roads, exploring the island, walking the beaches, watching the wildlife (this includes dolphins-a-plenty and manatees), and lowering my blood pressure. I’ve vacationed in Florida many years in many places, but this is the only one where I’ve actually considered buying a house. I would not hesitate to buy Rainbow’s End, if it ever came on the market and I could swing it. :-) One cautionary word: If you decide to take the beautiful and quiet, 6+ mile round-trip hike to the south end of the island, TAKE PLENTY OF WATER.
The moment we arrived at Rainbows End we knew we had found paradise! From the comfy, and wonderfully decorated interior to the screened outdoor porch and side deck, we were hooked. The website pics are spot-on, but can’t convey the wonderful feeling you get when you actually arrive on that deck! It was most difficult to pry ourselves from that deck... not only did we take up positions in the 2 lounge chairs, watching for frolicking dolphin, soaring osprey and the ponderous but graceful pelicans, but also watching the ebb and flow of the Gulf meeting the bay, in front of the house. Sunrises brought out shore birds, and shell hunting, and the sunsets, were magnificent. We explored many of the island laneways by golf cart, walked the beaches and kayaked the bay and dock areas – even viewing manatees up close and personal in the cove. Surprisingly, we ended up dining in for all meals, using up most of our groceries and even had to take a ferry ride (NCR) to Pine Island mid week for additional supplies. But this was an adventure also! If you are looking for sun, sand, and surf and total relaxation, this is the place for you. This was our first VRBO rental. And we are happy to report that Rainbow's End is immaculate, fully equipped and positioned at the best spot on the island. From our first inquiry, Mary Beth was responsive and very helpful. (Remember, you’re not going to Orlando here!) She fully prepared us for the trip, explaining how one gets to North Captiva, advising us to get ferry reservations early and to make arrangements with the Publix market for provisions to bring with us (there is virtually nothing available on North Captiva itself). Having now spent a fabulous week there, the two best tips we can offer anyone considering a visit to Rainbows End are: 1) do it! and, 2) take half the clothes you think you’ll need – and twice the food (and drink)!
We will be back!
Thank you Mary Beth and Glen, for sharing your bit of paradise with us.
If the # of beds fits for you, this is the home to rent! Our family of 4 with 2 kids (3 and 5 yo) stayed for one week. Had no idea that this amazing place exists right off the Gulf coast of Florida - small island with no paved roads, everyone travelling by foot, golf cart, bicycle, kayak, motorboat, or small airplane, surrounded by wildlife including countless osprey, pelicans, dolphins, and the occasional jumping ray, just 30 min by ferry from the mainland.
And Mary Beth's vacation home is the perfect place from which to experience it all - clean, organized, relaxed. She provides all the necessary paper goods; make sure to bring your own condiments, cooking oil, and any other staples, food & drink including water. Can get fresh seafood from Boats & Fun or have Andy's Island Seafood deliver by ferry during your stay. Definitely take advantage of the outdoor shower!
Explored many secluded and deserted beaches; still most beautiful section of beach is right in front of the home - convenient too! The island is small and sparsely inhabited, so with a quick trip on the golf cart, you can get to Barnacle's for ice cream, or to the North Captiva Island Club to use their bikes or kayaks, or swim at the pool and enjoy the poolside bar. At Boats & Fun, a separate business next door to NCIC, you can rent a motorboat to go to Cayo Costa State Park, Cabbage Key, or Boca Grande - highly recommend renting a boat once or twice during your week along with a fishing pole or two. Based on rec's from the staff, we anchored in a cove at Cayo Costa to fish - caught 3 catfish in <10 minutes and watched dolphin swim in the cove. Also, for guaranteed dolphin spotting, hang out in the water around Cabbage Key.
On the island, we awoke to the occasional pod of dolphins in view as we ate breakfast. Parked our golf cart one day at the entrance to the to the nature preserve that encompasses 2/3 of the island and hiked the long sandy path until we reached the secluded beach on the other end. A few things to note when you do this activity: minimal tree cover along the way; bring plenty of water as the temps are also 10+degrees warmer than at the house; there's a path that splits off fairly early on toward the right that will also take you to the beach. If you make it to the end of the path you'll need to return the way you came; can't walk along the beach back to the entrance.
Conclusion: Rent this house, stay for at least a week, have a fantastic time - it's impossible not to!
This truly is the best place on the island. The home is so comfortable, clean, and bright. We loved the screened porch and relaxed while watching fishing boats during the day and the sunsets at night. We loved being that incredibly close to our own private beach. Everyday there was something new to see on the beach or in the water; dolphins, manatee, birds, shells. Mary Beth and Glenn have this home so well-stocked, we settled in quite nicely. They were very helpful with grocery and transportation suggestions, and showing us around the property. They were right, there is nothing quite like an outdoor shower! This was one of our best vacations ever and had a very hard time leaving it. Cozy home, beautiful beach, peaceful island...we will be back. We wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.
