Save money by preparing meals and beverages in our fully equipped kitchen and by using our washer/dryer. Well lit street parking is just outside our front door. Receive recommendations for locally owned restaurants. Enjoy the art collection of local artist Michael Houser. (There will be a new exhibit each time you stay with us.)
Although we both have lived in other parts of the world for extended periods, we have deep roots in Springfield. We recently left for Massachusetts to be close to children and grandchildren. We hope others will enjoy being at Purple Awning House as much as we do.
Bernie Carver purchased this house in 1988
Sally purchased the house as a single mom thinking that it would be a good place to raise her two children. Her strategy worked because they both became wonderful, successful adults. We have our many fond memories of our old house and love the neighborhood.
Purple Awning House combines the advantages of being in a city and open space. Lincoln Park is a wonderful place to enjoy the outdoors, yet you can get grocery stores and restaurants with a short walk.
Thank you both for sharing your home with us. We had a wonderful stay, and most definitely would want to stay there again when we return to Springfield. The Lincoln museum was spectacular and I need to return to catch all of what I did not have time to see. Doug was great at getting us in and seeing us off. I think our dog will miss the place most of all. She was spoiled by numerous walks at the beautiful park across the street. All in all, we had a great time, just too short. hopefully a longer stay next time. Thank You again for your hospitality!!
We enjoyed our holiday weekend at the Purple Awning. There were 5 adults and we were pretty comfortable in the 2 bedrooms and the couches. Know that this is an older home - eclectic and vintage. While that may not be for everyone, it was rather charming for us and seems so for all the others who have stayed here. The home was clean and well equipped. Some of the lamps were not working so I only recommend you check that early and let them know if any issues. Jerika was great and made sure we had all the linens we needed. She met us early on our check-in day which really helped our holiday schedule. Checkout was super easy and no extra cleanup needed by us.
We had a wonderful time at Purple Awning House. Owners and manager were very attentive and helpful. The location was perfect for us and our puppy - and the house was immaculate! We would most definitely stay there again if visiting Springfield!
We enjoyed our stay so much. Your home was perfect for us. We enjoyed visiting the Lincoln locations and even invited family up for dinner while we were there. We Would recommend this sweet place to stay. Lovely neighborhood to take our dog for a walk. Be sure to take time to sit in the yard and enjoy the Lincoln Park view. Thank you for sharing your home with us.
The house was as advertised. The check in process was clear and thorough. Nice place.
My husband, sister, and I stayed at The Purple Awning House for a long weekend while we visited Springfield. The house was just right for us: The two bedrooms provided us privacy, and the living room and kitchen enabled us to enjoy meals and relaxation/TV time together, all at a cost that was comparable to local pricing for hotels and motels in the area.
The house was clean, the kitchen had everything we needed, and the local manager was accessible, friendly and hospitable. The house is located just a few blocks away from the 'downtown' area where the Lincoln Museum, Library, etc., are located, but it is also in an older residential area directly across the street from a park ... it provided the perfect combination of convenience and calm for us.
The property exceeded my expectations. It was very clean, I loved the old deep bathtub and the large closets. While the stove and oven were old they worked very well. I liked the arched doorways and the doorbell chimes. The yard space and shady trees were perfect! I hope to stay here again.

Anyone who cares about American history should visit the The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum. It is a national treasure that has consistently been the most visited presidential museum since it opened in 2005. Our area has much more to offer Civil War and history buffs - Lincoln's Home, Lincoln's Tomb, New Salem State Park, two historic State Capitol buildings, just to name a few. Frank Loyd Wright's Dana Thomas House and the National Museum of Surveying are other gems that visitors should not miss. As you may surmise, visiting all these great places takes some time. Visitors should plan on spending at least two or three days to experience our town.
Purple Awning House is across the street from 88 acres of open space at Lincoln Park, one of Springfield’s oldest and most popular parks. Sports oriented facilities at the park include: trails for walking, running, or cycling, a soccer field, 2 disc golf courses, 3 tennis courts, 3 shuffleboard courts, 6 ball diamonds, and 21 horseshoe courts. The Nelson Recreation Center contains an outdoor swimming pool , 2 indoor ice rinks and Junior Blues Hockey games.
Make this “party headquarters” for your next family celebration or business meeting. Reasonably priced venues for weddings, showers or business meetings are within walking distance at Lincoln Park Pavilion or Edwards Place. The bridge at Lincoln Park Lagoon is a very popular location for outdoor weddings and wedding pictures. Benedictine University, the Brinkerhoff Home and public transportation are less than a block away from Purple Awning House.
