I am originally from Australia and moved to Calgary, Canada in 2002. In April 2008 I went on a surfing vacation to Costa Rica and fell in love with the country, its friendly people and laid back way of life.
In July 2008 I moved back to Costa Rica and started working with a Costa Rican Travel Agency. This allowed me to continue traveling around the country and also to introduce the country to other people wanting to travel in Central America.
I still work in the Travel Industry and can assist you in booking your travel plans in and around Costa Rica.
Annie Bestwick purchased this house in 2010
After traveling all over Costa Rica and living in San Jose I decided to move to the Caribbean Coast and Cahuita was the natural choice. It is a beachside community with the stunning combination of beautiful beaches surrounded by lush rain forest. There is an amazing National Park where you can see monkeys, sloths, iguanas, caimans and a variety of birdlife
Cahuita is also known for its amazing snorkeling.
I love the position of Casa Verde which is located just outside the village of Cahuita and is a short stroll or bike ride to restaurants, bars, beaches and yoga classes
I fell in love with Casa Verde because great access to the beach, the village of Cahuita but at the same time the gardens and hammock area provide a tropical respite from the every day world.
The three of us loved this clean little house that is a very short walk to the beach and town and offered everything we needed. We woke to the sound of the birds and the smell of flowers. Annie was a wonderful host and offered good suggestions for the area. Cahuita is magical and I will return.
The property was immaculately kept thanks to Sherri our wonderful maid.
The gardens make you feel like you are in an oasis.
Annie what can I say you made our stay so comfortable and were so very helpful to us.
The people of Cahuita left a lasting impression with us .
There are so many activities which are only a bus ride away. Also Annie will help you organize any tours or activities you wish to participate in.
I recommend Casa Verde without any reservations to anyone wanting to stay on the Caribbean Coast.
Thank you for the memories
Staying at Annie’s Casa Verde was an absolute pleasure.
The property feels like your own secret slice of a tropical paradise. No big hotels, no big chains, no throngs of vendors; just nature and the people who love it. My mother and I (37+), admittedly not pack backers or surfers or consummate travellers, spent a VERY short week at Casa Verde. The property is better than pictured. The house itself is very comfortable. Both beds and bedding were awesome. The bathrooms and showers were excellent – and the linens perfect. The kitchen was well appointed – we never were left wanting for anything...there’s even a great blender : ) Ceiling fans in every room – including the outdoor patio!! There is an air conditioner in the bedroom on the second floor – my mom’s room. She reported that she never needed it because of the subtle breeze drifting through from the ocean. The use of Annie’s dryer was much appreciated. It was humid and anything hung outside (bathing suits, beach towels) needed a little help to dry out for a swim the next morning.
The property that Casa Verde sits on – is beautiful! Once you walk in through the 7’ish tall gate, you don’t see roads or neighbours – just beautiful gardens, lush privacy borders, throngs of birds and Guinness (the very lovely resident cat). We lived on our patio – with the sound of the surf and wildlife unending. Listening to the chorus of birds and distant howler monkeys at sunrise; identifying birds, reading and napping in the hammocks during the heat of the afternoon; waiting for the crescendo of cicadas, kissing lizards and the perfume of Ylang Ylang in the evening – it was just perfect.
The location of Casa Verde in relation to beaches, bars, restaurants, small grocery stores and bank is ideal for those who want to have peace and quiet, but the benefit of not needing a car to enjoy outdoor activities (surfing, swimming, snorkelling, hiking, birding, wildlife photography...), go out for a great meal, a drink on the beach or grocery shopping. We walked everywhere. Nothing you need is more than a 15 minute walk away.
Annie is a consummate host. She coordinated all of our transportation and guides in Costa Rica. She arranged THE BEST private driver/guide named James to drive us between San Jose and Cahuita. He was AMAZING. Always on time, very friendly and knowledgeable. She introduced us to Louise, our phenomenal guide in Cahuita. All of the arrangements she made on our behalf, went off flawlessly.
Thank you Annie!
My Husband & I stayed at Casa Verde last week & it was awesome! We traveled to Costa Rica for our honeymoon and this place had just everything we needed! Its a very safe and secure place and in a great location! We walked into town everyday and really enjoyed breakfast at Café Cahuita and Sobre Las Olas for dinner. Annie was an amazing host! She was very helpful and accommodating! My phone didn't connect to the houses wifi so she let me use her Ipad ( more then once!) and even gave us her land line phone to make calls! She also lined up transportation for us the day we arrived and the day we left! Even with all the rain we had during our visit it was an amazing vacation and I would absolutely stay there again!
ps: the Cat Guiness who lives in the yard ( not in the house) is adorable! and she loves tortilla chips! :)
We enjoyed staying at Casa Verde last year, enough that we went back again this year and stayed for a month! There have been a couple of upgrades to the property. The front half of the house has been rewired and there is a new air conditioner in the master bedroom. It is efficient and very quiet. As mentioned last year, the house is unique, well maintained and secure. Annie continues to be an excellent host . She is friendly and if there are any minor issues that arise, she deals with them promptly. For anyone considering a stay at Annie's property, we found the best place to purchase food was the farmers' market which is held in the town every Sunday morning. There is a very good selection of fresh fruit and vegetables as well as chicken, eggs and various other items. On this stay we also learned to be on the lookout for the fish trucks. The ones we found were pick up models with a freezer or something similar in the back. You can purchase fresh fillets which were delicious and very reasonably priced. There is also a lady who makes wonderful bread and baked goods and supplies local stores. We had the good fortune to find her a couple of times when the bread was still warm. The beaches are great and walking in the national park was always interesting and enjoyable. The hotel located by the park entrance has an outdoor area that is perfect for having a beer and enjoying the scenery as the sun goes down. Overall, if you are looking for a relaxing, self catering kind holiday that is fun and affordable you can't do much better than Casa Verde in Cahuita!
My husband and I stayed for 10 days...Awesome house, great wildlife and the park was incredible. A great guide Juan showed us so many things that the average person would just walk by and never notice. Great restaurants and supers (where food can be purchased) along with the fresh vegetable market on Sunday was all we needed. We would like to go back and spend a month. Thanks so much Anne for your generous hospilality. Bob and Joan
