Owner, Bobby Ericsson, is a "foodie" so enjoy a very well equipped kitchen and help yourself to staples in the cabinets and fridge.
There are paved roads all the way from the interstate to the front door! The cottage is accessed by 2 steps.
This is an excellent private location for family reunions, weddings, retreats, or any small group gathering as there is another lovely VRBO cabin just one street away, and others within 2 miles, which will allow for large groups with early reservations in multiple cabins. Contact Bobby for referrals to other cabins and for special event rates.
Hi; Bobby here. I'm a Northern Virginia transplant to Wild and Wonderful West Virginia! About 20 years ago we purchased "Skyline Cottage" near Harpers Ferry in the Blue Ridge mountains of West Virginia with a 75 mile view of the Shenandoah Valley below. We fell in love with this beautiful area and wonderful local people, and it didn't take long to switch from weekenders to permanent residents!
I have recently made Austin, Tx. my primary residence but cannot part with my beloved "Skyline Cottage" - my little piece of heaven! I have owned other VRBO rentals here on this mountain for the past 15 years (Moonridge Cottage and Terrapin Cottage) and have now decided to make my home into a VRBO rental for the months that I am not here. I have derived great pleasure from the incredible guests from all over the world who have visited my other cottages in the past, and look forward to continuing this tradition. Come, relax, and enjoy my little piece of heaven!
Bobby Ericsson purchased this cottage in 2004
I love the natural beauty of this area, the wildlife, the cultural heritage, the history, the quaint little towns, plus we're only an hour from Fairfax, Va., so even though we feel really remote, there is easy access to the big city. It's really the best of all worlds!
I think you will enjoy - as I do - making the trek up to the Appalachian Trail, whether just for an hour or two or a day hike into historic Harpers Ferry. I highly recommend the 'Maryland Heights' hike to the top of the mountain where you will have an incredible view of the town of Harpers Ferry and the two rivers - Shenandoah and Potomac - merging. This is a half day round trip hike atop the mountain that the Amtrak train tunnels through, on its way to DC and beyond. See my photos at this listing for the view from the top!
For the less hearty, a short hike to 'Jefferson Rock' right in the midst of historic Harpers Ferry will allow you to share the view that Thomas Jefferson said was 'worth a trip across the ocean' to see'! Or ~ spend a day at the Charles Town races and slots and be sure to visit the incredible 'Terrace Restaurant' where you will have the perfect terraced view of the horse races, including a monitor at your table for closer observation and a buffet that you will long remember!
We enjoyed our time ay this cozy cabin !! It was stocked with everything you could need for delight week of relaxing fun . We toured the sights Harpers Ferry , Battlefields , Washington DC, and had a perfect time !! I will be sure and recommend it to all my friends and would return for another visit !!!!
Wow! What an incredibly charming cottage. The rustic decor, the splendid views and everything you would want or need in this cozy and beautifully decorated cottage. You can get away from it all and just relax, but yet you are still close enough for day trips to Washington D.C. or any one of the numerous other historic sites nearby. A group of us from Texas went there for a visit and had a wonderful time. Bobby was a great hostess and made sure we had everything we needed. There's plenty to see and do here including great places to hike. You will absolutely love your stay at this wonderful cottage.
The view from the deck alone is worth the stay. Great for sipping coffee in the morning and watching the sunset while sipping wine in the evening. The house is quite comfortable with everything you would need, and Bobby's personality and hostessing skills were icing on the cake. We came as a group of friends from Texas and we're still talking about this place. Ideal location for day trips into Washington, DC or Harper's Ferry, or even Amish country in western Pennsylvania. Charming - a vacation you will long remember.
Skyline Cottage is an absolutely beautiful place. The view from the living room and deck, overlooking the valley and river below, are awesome! The living room has floor-to-ceiling windows that fill it with light and frame the majestic view of the valley below. We loved the outside deck. It is equipped a delightful hot tub with Jacuzzi. Also, the deck has a covered dinning area. Enjoyed eating breakfast, lunch or dinner out on it, while viewing the surrounding beauty. Inside, the cottage is decorated in a beautiful, rustic manner which makes one feel relaxed and at home. It was very clean and well kept. We appreciated the owner’s use of non-toxic, natural cleaners and soaps. We loved the original art works, which cover the walls and blends well with the rustic, but elegant interior. The pantry and kitchen are well stocked and nicely equipped. The loft, with the master bedroom and common area, open up the whole cottage and give a spacious and airy, yet cozy feel to it. The cottage is so delightful, that one is tempted to forgo sightseeing of other places, in order to enjoy the quiet beauty and charm of it. In fact, I skipped one day of sightseeing with our group to do just that! I look forward to visiting back there again and would recommend it to my friends and anyone seeking a beautiful, charming and peaceful mountain getaway.
Due to a last minute situation, I was in a bit of a pickle to try and rent a house in the area last minute - as in the evening before we arrived. The manager was nothing short of amazing. Luckily no one had rented it for the weekend so it was available. The house was clean and had so much character to it. It had everything you could need for a getaway. The kitchen was well equipped with all of the necessities. It was perfect for a group of 8 that were reuniting for a weekend. We drove to Shepherdstown on Saturday to float down the Potomac, but outside of that we spent the rest of our time at the house. It is secluded, but that is part of its charm. It was so welcoming and perfect. I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay or spend a weekend with some of my favorite people.
This is a highly charming cottage in the woods. It is full of pretty wooden detail and nice furnishings/ decor inside, including a central wood fireplace set on brick tiles. There are little lamps and candles all around for a really cozy feel. Large windows reveal the woods, adding to the mountain charm. The pictures do not quite capture how cute it is. It is also fully stocked in the kitchen and bathrooms. Bobby was a very good host.
We're the naturalists paradise - located below the Appalachian Trail, near Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers (the 2 merge at Harpers Ferry), some of the best white water rafting in the US, zip lines down the mountain!
