Eia Makou (Here we are!) is the name of our fabulous home with both gorgeous ocean and mountain views. For decades our family traveled to the Big Island. Our kids grew up learning Hawaiian dances and Polynesian culture. Finally, we were able to buy our dream home, and now we share it with you. Please see reviews submitted by our guests, many of whom return every year. Hawaii is special. A Hawaiian Kahu blessed our home, and we have furnished it Hawaiian style, with every modern amenity blended into the spirit of Aloha. The furnishings reflect the combination of excitement and relaxation and all are in the Hawaiian tradition, from the lime and lemon trees (pick your own) to the historic Hawaiian memorabilia on the walls. There are TVs in all three bedrooms as well as in the great room. The kitchen is as complete as one could wish. Eia Makou is the perfect spot for family bonding and offers a base for exploring the diversity of the Big Island, from beaches to volcanoes. E komo mai ('please come in.')

Perfect spot for whale watching and temperature.
Close to everything important to visiting Hawaii. This home is located just 10 minutes from the best beach on the Big Island, Hapuna Beach. There are also 5 other beaches within a 20 minute drive to choose from.
Just 3 miles down the road you can catch your Whale watching boat that leaves from the Kawaihae Harbor, along with sunset cruises, deep sea fishing expeditions and scuba diving excursions.
There are excellent restaurants serving Local fast foods as well as Seafood, Gourmet pizza, Pacific Cuisine, Sushi, Burgers, Ice Cream and Shave Ice, along with night time music and dancing. 4-5 star restaurants are within the 20 minute driving range, and shopping for just about any and all tastes can be found at the Waikoloa King and Queen shops. For even more options try The Shops at Mauna Lani. Also located at The Shops at Mauna Lani is a full grocery store so that you can stock up on what you need.
The weather is consistant here with only 7 ' of rain on avarage per year.
Every year my wife and I rent a house for vacation.
Usually in Maui. This was our first trip to the Big Island. I must tell you
that everything exceeded our expectations for a great vacation.
The house was perfect. We really appreciated the work that you put into
making the house clean and comfortable. All of the little touches and
amenities really make a difference, so thank you. We have stayed in a lot of
homes over the years, this was one of the best. On our last day we were
trying to figure out when we could come back!
Loved the Big Island! Like I said it was our first trip and we thought it
was great. So much less crowded than Maui. But with lots to do. The people
were really friendly, which we thought was really nice. Didn't do the
Volcano, we are saving that one for next time.
Thanks again and we will be back next year!
I stayed at Eia Makou with my family (husband and 3 kids, ages 7, 10 and 12) for 5 nights, and wish we could have stayed longer. The house is beautiful, clean, spacious, and well-stocked with towels, beach gear, etc. (Looks even better live than in the online pictures.) Barbara, the manager, was very responsive to any questions we had. The views from the house are amazing, both of the ocean and the surrounding mountains. The pool was fantastic - we swam every day and watched the sun set a few times from the house. The location is perfect, close to the charming towns of Waimea and Hawi, as well as resorts/shopping/dining in Waikoloa. Within an hour's drive are gorgeous views and hiking at Pololu and Waipi'o Valleys. Hapuna beach, ranked one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, is about 10 minutes away, as well as Mauna Kea beach. We went to one of these every day. The ice cream and shaved ice shop down the hill in Kawaihae (plaza next to gas station) was excellent. I would highly recommend the ziplines at Umauma Experience (about 90 minute drive), as well as one of the evening manta ray snorkeling or scuba cruises (we booked last minute with Sunlight on Water in Kona, which was great, though it looks like many companies do this and some may start in Kohala). If we ever return to the Big Island we will try and stay here again!
This is the nicest and most well equipped home we have ever stayed at. Everything was first class and more than we had expected. Barbara was very helpful and gracious. We can hardly wait to come back to this beautiful home!
We have stayed in many places on the Big Island, enjoying each in it's own way. This year, we thought we would do something different and stay in North Kohala. We often found ourselves gravitating towards the sunny dry side during our previous visits.
We have found the perfect place, as it is close to the beautiful beaches of the Kona Coast, and close to the charming town of Waimea.
We were late in discovering the Fish truck, and Da Fish House, across the street from the gas station in Kawaihae. You MUST NOT MISS IT.
It is the best place to buy fresh fish, and the best place for a casual lunch. Don 't let the look of the place scare you off. It is amazing.
It is not more than 10 minutes from the house.
Coming back to the house is always a pleasure, and taking a late afternoon swim in the large pool is the best. Sitting out to watch the spectacular sunsets over the ocean is a special pleasure to end the day. The hot tub is a perfect night cap!
The house has everything you need, and it is immaculate and clean. Barbara is amazing, and so helpful, if you need to know anything. She is quick and detailed in her responses, and it was so appreciated.
We would definitely return to this house, and most likely will.
We stayed in this house for a week for our 10 year anniversary. We loved every minute of it! The house is very spacious, with three well appointed bedrooms. The master suite with walk in closet and master bath is very nice.
The pool and hot tub were very nice and clean as well, and we enjoyed the option of watching the sunset from the privacy of our own pool.
The house is close to a few of the best beaches on the Big Island, and we enjoyed many of the restaurants close by (Seafood Bar, Pesto, Kahola Burger & Taco, Hawaiian Style Cafe). Also had dinner one night at Lava Lava Beach Club in Waikoloa which was nice as well.
We highly recommend AdventureX for whale watching and dolphin adventures. They launch right out of Puako, which is really close to the house. We went out with them twice and had a great time both times.
It is about a 45 minute drive into Kona, but we didn't find ourselves needing to head that way very often. We stopped in town right when we arrived to stock up on some groceries, and didn't head back that way for a few days.
Overall we loved this place and will look to book it again if our travels bring us back to the Big Island!
Our family of four enjoyed our stay at this home. It was in a great location and was very private. We loved the pool, the views and the gorgeous sunsets. The kitchen was well equipped and we really appreciated the beach umbrellas, chairs and boogie boards that were provided. Unfortunately, during our stay (August) the wonderful afternoon breezes stopped at sunset and the house became very warm at night making it difficult to sleep. I highly recommend bringing mosquito repellant or citronella candles for the evenings if you want to spend time sitting outside.
My husband and I brought our young adult children and we had a perfect time. The house is perfectly equipped and the outdoor space with pool and spa was exceptional. I would love to return again. Love the big island. Love this house. The view and breeze up the hill are welcome whether you spend the day at the house or come home after spending the day at the many beaches. Kristi
