Why Richard J. Hausner Interests chose Hudson Valley

The beauty of the valley speaks for itself. Located 100 miles north of NYC, Columbia County is a slowed pace country wonder with surprising upsides: tremendous historic significance, stimulating cultural events, quality restaurants, quaint shopping, serious antiquing, abundant outdoor activities and sunsets matched by no other.

What makes this chalet unique

It's all about the view! The moment you step onto the ridge you will be taken away by the mountains and the mighty Hudson River. This multi-county area is steeped in historic properties and is the heart and soul of the Hudson River School of Painting. Artists Thomas Cole and Fredric Church built their estates a stone's throw up the river. Roosevelts, Vanderbilts and Astors have long called this valley their home.

Although there are ample gently rolling trails, hiiking around the entire 23 acres can be challenging as the steep slopes of the river and abutting kill jet up to a high ridge. This was once a Native American campground overlooking these bodies of water. Arrowheads and artifacts have been found here for years. The beauty is not lost on the abundant wildlife that feeds here. Wild turkeys, deer, ducks, geese and bald eagles are common visitors. It's a wonderful place to explore.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This place is amazing! We spent the morning at the farmers market and then went back to the house and made a big brunch! We hiked around the property and then took a swim... Now we're going to barbeque and eat by the pool. Tomorrow were going apple picking :-) not a bad weekend!

This is the best there is

The fact that the owners are allowing strangers to lease their property is truly SHOCKING considering the quality and beauty. I cannot say I would be so generous and thoughtful if I was in the same position. This property is totally secluded with a view that NEVER stops. The interior is all the best of quality with nothing overlooked (although I can't find the microwave). It is also one of the cleanest properties I've leased. If I could give this property 10 stars, I would without any hesitation. This house leaves me dreaming about the beauty of architecture and the true value of tranquility. This property is being leased for far less than the market allows.

This property was enjoyable even on a rainy day. It was well stocked with all the needed items for cooking, and eating in. The views spectacular. The staff helped over the phone, and by email with particulars, and couldn't have been nicer. Well appointed, and well designed chalet to spend a few days exploring the shops, and restaurants of Main Street in Hudson.

12 magical nights!

  • 5 of 5

Everything about our 12 night stay was wonderful! The views were amazing! Lots of wildlife came to visit daily - deer, turkeys, eagles, hawks, fox, woodchuck, etc. The pool was great for a morning dip before heading out to hike some of the trails. The cottage had everything necessary! Our only criticism, it might be time for a new bed and if you do, make it a king sized. We will definitely be back again to this perfect vacation property!

Simply perfect

The Cottage has now become our favorite property in the Hudson Valley. It is perfectly located, perfectly appointed and perfectly maintained. The owners have thought of everything! We hope to return every season to this magical little house on the hill.

New York City

A perfect experience.

This house with its vistas and perfect interior is hard to capture in words or photos. I spent a week in May and returned in August. Both were magnificent. Every detail and wish has been attended to: for those who like shade, there is the hammock at the picnic area. For those who want to swim, there’s the pool. And for those who just want to relax and take in the Hudson River, there are swings, chairs, gliders and balconies. A TV repairman came to the house and told us that this house has the most magnificent vista than any other in the area – a claim that resonates as true. Any problem at all is immediately attended to by Muriel and the staff that service the property. The only problem I had was that I could not manage to stay longer.

Top Notch

  • 5 of 5

I couldn't believe this cottage was even better than the pictures! The views are magnificent: water, mountains, sunsets and wildlife. The cottage is meticulously kept and very well supplied and organized. And, we give it an A+ for comfort. The caretaker was most helpful and we felt very well taken care of. We highly recommend this luxurious home. Hate to leave.

(I included 55+ as a category for recommendation. There is a small dumbwaiter that we used to get our things upstairs to the main living area; no carrying heavy bags upstairs.)
