This beautifully refurnished cabin boasts a 6 car covered carport, an outdoor playhouse and playground for the kids and sits on 4.5 acres of beautiful land with spectacular views. We offer free wireless internet access, as well as free access to a huge digital library of movies and NetFlix. The property has easy access in snowy conditions and is just a 5 minute drive to many fine restaurants, shopping, and activities in downtown Idyllwild.

THIRD BEDROOM – KIDS BUNK ROOM

A fun kids bunk room with 2 sets of TWIN OVER FULL bunk beds with an additional TWIN trundle under each bunk (all with memory foam mattresses). This room also has a bookshelf full of kid’s books, a cozy rug, and a bean bag to read stories on at bedtime.

FOURTH BEDROOM / PLAYROOM

This room is the only upstairs bedroom. It serves as the kids’ playroom and has a QUEEN pull out sofa, also with a memory foam mattress. There is a wall-mounted HD-TV with digital library access to a large library of kid’s movies and TV shows along with Netflix. There is also a game table in the back of the living area with puzzle, games and coloring materials to keep both kids and adults busy.

! HIGHLIGHTS !

Our cabin is short 5 minute drive to downtown Idyllwild, with access to many restaurants and shops, as well as a brand new amazing playground structure at the town’s community center. It is an even shorter drive to the Idyllwild Nature Center, which offers an indoor interactive area for kids, many great hikes and picnic areas in the summer and great sledding in the winter. Humber Park is also nearby, which has hiking in the summer and great sledding in the winter (it tends to be about 15 degrees colder here so always bring some warm clothing!). The Idyllwild community is known for the arts. There is the annual Jazz in the Pines Festival the last weekend in August, as well as many other art and nature oriented events throughout the year.

Idyllwild is about an hour away from Palm Springs and Palm Desert, 1 hour from the Lake Perris State Recreation Area (swimming, boating, hunting, rock climbing, etc.), and 15 minutes to Lake Hemet.

About Mark Tettenburn

We are a family of four from San Diego who have always wanted a cabin in the mountains to call our own. We have two little girls who love to run and play outside and whom we look forward to raising to love the outdoors as we do. We enjoy the small town feel of Idyllwild and love to hike and play in the snow. We look forward to sharing our vacation home and this great 'on the hill' experience with others!

Mark Tettenburn purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Mark Tettenburn chose Idyllwild

This log cabin was previously owned by a family who raised their children for over 20 years in Idyllwild. It was their home and very cherished and well cared for. We were honored to buy it from them and have a place for our little girls to enjoy and grow up going to as well. It is a spacious log home with a huge property to run, play, and hike on. There are breathtaking western views and it is in close proximity to town with a far-away feel.

What makes this cabin unique

We provide many ammenities, including a huge digital video library. We also offer two KING bedrooms, which is a rare find on the hill.

Beautiful and Secluded Cabin

  • 5 of 5

A group of 8 just rented this cabin in January, and were delighted to find there was still plenty of snow. The description offers several parks that you can go sledding at, however we found that be unnecessary and had a great time sledding on the cabin's 4.5 acre lot.

As for the cabin itself there it was extremely spacious, the living room upstairs had more than enough room for all of us to hang out and play board games in. The kitchen was extremely well stocked and in great condition, while the island provided a perfect place to make cocktails and prepare food. We were also delighted by the large dining room table which had more than enough room to seat all of us for group meals. The deck and surrounding areas provided astounding views of Saddleback Mountain as well as the San Bernardino and San Gabriel Mountain Ranges.

The beds and bedrooms were also all in wonderful condition, providing more than enough room for our 8 person group.

Altogether the cabin exceeded all of our expectations and we will likely be returning again in the future.

Had an amazing time at this amazing property!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four had such a great time at this wonderful cabin! Not only was the cabin itself so spacious and well-equipped (the kids especially loved the bunk beds), but the amenities of the property are too many to name. We found a surprise around every corner. The kids spent hours on the play set and playing tetherball, not to mention the tire swing. And we were lucky enough to get a good three inches of snow when we arrived, so we all took advantage of the awesome sledding hill. And then there's the view -- absolutely breathtaking! And Mark, the owner, was so great to work with. He followed up several times prior to the trip and made sure we had everything we needed to make our trip a memorable one. We will definitely be back. Looking forward to experiencing this fabulous property in the summer as well!

Reunion with friends

  • 5 of 5

My husband, myself and 10 of our friends stayed here for the weekend and had a wonderful time. We also had two 12 year old boys that never peeped one time that they were bored and that right there tells you there was enough for them at the cabin to keep them busy. The cabin was clean, comfortable and very well stocked with kitchen needs. The views are out of this world and the fire pit was a big bonus because it was quite cool. We were there when the navy set off that missile and boy did we have a front row view! It was spectacular and eerie since we knew nothing about it going up. The tram up the mountain at the San Jacinto park was very cool too, we did some short hikes that had snow and that was a bonus for my husband and I coming from Florida! The only complaint that we had was that we had to leave!! Thank you Mark for being so gracious and available! Oh and do read the arrival and departure instructions so that you don't have to take a cold shower!! Oops!

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed yourselves and even had some snow! We go up every month so keep the kitchen stocked up with all the gear to make some great family dinners. I have some friends that stay at the cabin with older teenage kids and thought they might get bored but I think kids love to be outdoors and feel adventurous they keep asking to come up.

Great family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a wonderful stay at the log cabin. Our family of 5 with 3 under age 6 had plenty of room and really enjoyed exploring the property. Our kids loved the swing set and the tire swing and having adventures on all of the boulders. They also loved the bunk bed room, which had comfortable beds and was well stocked with kids books. My husband and I loved being able to tell them to go play outside (and knowing they'd be safe). We also loved the spacious master bedroom, which has an incredible view and a fire place. The kitchen is perfectly stocked. Seriously. We have stayed in a lot of rental homes, and they always seem to be missing something! But the log cabin had everything we needed, and then some.

Pictures do not do this place justice. It is so serene and comfortable! Thanks for sharing!

Owner's Response: Thanks Tina, glad you had fun. The tire swing is a new addition, our kids don't actually enjoy it that much which was disappointing but glad to hear our guests are enjoying it. They prefer the swing set and adventuring around the loop around the property.

Owner's Response: Thanks Don. The cabin is on the North side of Pine Cove but it's only about 5 minutes from town and we frequently call in dinner orders from La Casita or Arriba's (yes we like Mexican food) to get take out rather than taking our 3 and 6 year old kids out. They are happy to stay at the cabin and have dinner, there's plenty to keep them busy without having to leave!

Good Sleeping Accomodations

  • 5 of 5

Good location for San Jacinto hiking and area touring. Close to a couple of popular hiking trailheads. We like the number and variety of sleeping arrangement for adults and children - in the bunkroom. The kitchen is very well equipped. The property has a big view and different group lounging areas around a fire pit and on the upper deck.

Mark is probably the most responsive and helpful owner we have worked with in VRBO over many years.

The community and setting makes this the best mountain experience close to San Diego, with a much easier drive than Big Bear, with a quieter and more scenic neighborhood.

Owner's Response: Thanks Jeff, I'm always on the computer so quick to reply over email! The Pacific Crest Trail runs right through Idyllwild, we're big hikers but since we have 2 young kids we haven't been able to do any serious hiking but there are plenty of trails. We do Ernie Maxwell trail with the kids at Humber Park.
