About Amy Blomquist
I grew up in Loma Mar and graduated from Pescadero High with 16 in my class! I'm a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and worked as an actor for almost 6 years in Los Angeles. But I started to experience withdrawals from not being around the redwoods and had to come back ;-) I currently work in health care with the elder population and run The Cottage with my parents!
Why Amy Blomquist chose Loma Mar
The Cottage was built by my grandfather in 1946. The home was a weekend getaway for my grandparents. My family goes back many generations in the Loma Mar area. Come see why Loma Mar is a very special place...at The Cottage!
What makes this Cottage unique
There aren’t too many places left wherein less than an hour’s drive from the city, you are embraced by massive redwood trees, birds, banana slugs, running water and the stars in the night sky. In a time where it’s becoming more and more difficult to keep up with our busy lives, The Cottage offers a much needed retreat to de-stress and rejuvenate your soul - all surrounded by the pace of nature. Our wish is that guests will experience the tranquility and uniqueness The Cottage and Loma Mar has to give.

The perfect relaxing getaway
From the time we booked our stay several months ago Amy has been welcoming, responsive, efficient and friendly. We booked here because a family member was getting married in a nearby state park and we knew it would be a convenient location. Our experience far exceeded our expectations. We flew in to San Jose and used Amy’s detailed directions (complete with photos – yeah!) to wind our way to the Cottage and were welcomed with homemade cookies and marshmallows and wine. The property was immaculately, spotlessly clean, very comfortable, and had every single thing we could want or need. The kitchen was fun to cook in - the appliances seem brand new, there are lots of pots and pans and dishes and utensils and very sharp knives! The front porch with its rockers and swing were perfect for coffee in the morning and wine in the evening. We cooked dinners on the grill and ate at the table on the back porch. The flowers surrounding the house are so lovely and obviously well cared for; the hot tub made for a perfect de-stresser; the internet was fast and reliable; the music provided a great background for our time there – streaming 50’s and 60’s music matched the era of the house and made for lots of fun sing-alongs; even the bathrooms are terrific! The roosters in the morning were a little shocking the first day but we got used to them pretty quickly. ;-) While the rest of our family were stuck in the traffic and noise of Half Moon Bay, we were relaxing in our mountain refuge. Amy’s sense of fun and attention to detail are apparent and very much appreciated. We loved the family touches, stories and information about the area. It’s obvious she loves this place and now so do we. We’re sending huge thanks to Amy (and Sharon & Irv) for sharing their home with us!
Exactly what we needed
This was our first family trip to California an looked at several properties for our stay. We looked at reviews an Where the Waterfalls was recommended highly by many. I'm glad we chose Amy to rent from an I could not imagine any other place being so hospitable. The property is simply breathtaking, between the secluded environment of the redwoods an the hot tub outside it was very hard to leave the house to go to town. The drive in to town was one I will never forget. The fact I got to drive that route for a week is a bonus itself. We have 3 teens an a 12 year old an they were just as content w/ the ping pong table an the firepit an dont forget the hammock tucked in the red woods. We made family memories on that property an in my point of view made the best decision choosing Amy an her cottage.
A short drive to Santa Cruz an even closer to Half Moon Bay all on the historic California Rt 1. So many beaches on that route its impossible to not find one you like. We made arrangements an had lots of plans in the area but it was always nice to come back to the house.
An I have to mention how close the State Park is to the house, its literally a 1/4 mile down the road. You drive by it every time you leave the house an there are amazing sights. Giant fallen red woods trees, a beautiful creek an awesome trails.
In closing I'd like to thank Amy again for always making sure we were OK but also leaving us to our own privacy. It literally was a perfect time w/ house an owner. Thank you an I'd love to see it again.
Amazing vacation rental
The hostess goes above and beyond with little details and special treats as a welcome arrival. The gardens around the property are immaculate. The interior of the house was very well done, no expense was spared anywhere. Lots of activities like ping pong, horseshoes, ring toss, tons of games, hot tub, spa, the list goes on! We stayed for a weekend couple getaway but are already planning a return trip with family. We LOVE this place! Thank you Amy and family for sharing this gem with us!!!
Relaxing and beautiful retreat
Very well appointed, clean and snug getaway in the redwoods - was perfect for my family’s weekend. Great kitchen, beds and patios and decks. There’s a waterfall running and frogs! We really enjoyed all the games, ping pong, horseshoes... then the soothing hot tub under the stars. Several lovely trails through the redwoods very near by. We had fun walking around the charming little county town of Pescadero, be sure to visit the local artisans shop - gorgeous stuff for sale. Also, we timed out trip to overlap with the monthly barn dance at Pie Ranch. So fun! Even my guy who blanched at the thought of dancing had an outrageous fun time because it’s so laid back and easy going and everyone is laughing the whole time.
We will return for sure to stay at this cottage!
Beautiful, comfortable spot for a special get-away!
Spent a lovely weekend here with a small group of dear friends. We couldn’t have asked for a better spot. We loved being in the house, on the deck, and in the hot tub! Wonderful hiking spots were nearby, as was adorable Pescadero for yummy coffee, freshly baked bread, and goat cheese from a goat farm. Amy was an amazing host. We loved the treats and sweet notes she left for us! Can’t wait to go back!
Beautiful relaxing home with lots of activities
This is a very special property with a great garden. Every detail is attended to and makes for a perfect getaway close to the city.
Enjoy many hiking trials, parks or take a beautiful 15 minute leisurely drive out to the Pacific Ocean. Cruise along the coast, past windswept beaches and majestic 30-foot bluffs, through quaint coastal towns, all while enjoying some of the most mesmerizing scenery in the country.
The historic town of Pescadero offers shops, dining and an award winning goat dairy farm. Nearby attractions include Pescadero State Beach, Pigeon Point Lighthouse, Año Nuevo State Reserve, historic whaling town of Davenport, and Half Moon Bay.
