I bought 'Horse Shoe Bend' in 2006. To me the Smoky Mountain Region had always been appealing. There is endless beauty and a rich history throughout the area. My son, Donnie handles the rentals for the cabin and we visit it often as we enjoy our trips there every bit as much as our guests. We welcome you to visit 'Horse Shoe Bend' on your next visit to the great Smoky Mountains.
Donnie Mohn purchased this cabin in 2006
This particular location is so convenient to all there is to offer yet it is located off of the beaten path and offers such peace and quiet after a day of taking in all of the sights and activities in the area.
The "husbands" stayed here for a few days. They really enjoyed their weekend! The house was in a quiet location and they loved it! Would definitely consider staying here again!
We had a great 3 day stay at Horse Shoe Bend. It seems secluded, but is convenient to grocery shopping and Smokey Mountain National Park. Donnie provided the name of a fishing outfitter that provided a wonderful full-day outing in the NC streams. The hot tub was pleasant after a day of activities. Thank you for your hospitality.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We headed up to the mounts for a little golf and gambling - the cabin ended up being in the ideal location as we were right next to the golf course and a short cab ride away to the casino. The cabin had plenty of room and a great common area for hanging out. The weather was agreeable so we were able to enjoy the wrap-around porch. We would definitely stay here again on our next trip.
We had a great time at Horse Shoe Bend. The drive up was a bit intimidating, especially in a 15 passenger van. We just considered the drive an adventure, laughing all the way. The house was nice and clean. A bit cold, but the gas logs warmed the upstairs nicely. The downstairs with two bedrooms and one bath were a different story. There was an electric fireplace that would not stay on, so that left us with just one small space heater per room. Not enough heat with 20 degree temperatures at night. There had been a lot of rain in the area recently, so the floor in one closet downstairs was wet. Made sure the owner, Donnie, was aware of it. He had someone come look at it for repairs. Donnie was great. Checking on us to make sure we had arrived and that all was well. Overall, things were great. Enjoyed the view from the front porch, and the hot tub. One previous guest mentioned a ghostly encounter in the guest registry, lol. No sign of her. Didn't see Ricky Raccoon, but sure heard him bumping the trash cans. It was a great weekend to visit Horse Shoe Bend, and ride the Polar Express in Bryson City. Hope to visit again. Thank you Donnie, you're great.
We absolutely loved our stay at horse shoe bend! The views were gorgeous, plenty of room for our huge family, it was so relaxing! Very close and convenient for the many attractions! We would love to visit again!
Our group of 6 adults and a baby stayed at Horse Shoe Bend for 5 nights. It was a great size for our group with plenty of room in the bedrooms, living room and outdoor area. The kitchen was small, but worked out fine for cooking breakfasts and a few dinners and was well stocked with utensils, dishes, etc. The setting was beautiful and peaceful. We loved sitting out on the porch and enjoying the sound of the birds and crickets in the morning. The hot tub was relaxing at the end of the day. We also thought the location was perfect - close to Cherokee and the Smokey Mountain highlights but away from the hustle and activity of Gatlinburg.
On the downside, the house needs a good deep cleaning and is in need of some repairs. The owner was VERY responsive to our concerns and worked with us to address concerns. Also, the bathrooms were a little inconvenient for 6 adults since they were located in 2 of the bedrooms rather than accessible through a shared hallway.
Thanks to Donnie for sharing his home in such a beautiful location.
