Your hosts are Randolph and Grace Knight. Growing up outside New York City, Grace's favorite part of the year was vacation visits to her grandparents, aunts, and cousins who lived in Vermont. As soon as she could move to Vermont, she did. Randolph grew up in Florida, but has loved Vermont since his first visit in 1985. The Knights live at High Shelter year round. They enjoy the outdoors, gardening, and travel. When they travel, they always stay at a vacation rental! They look forward to sharing their special part of Vermont with you.
Grace Knight purchased this farmhouse in 1997
Peace, privacy, and the feel that this is the real Vermont. Surrounded by hundreds of acres of woodland, nature is at our doorstep. But, we are so close to major resort areas (Woodstock, Hanover, Sunapee, Manchester) with their cultural opportunities and retail stores. We are situated between Vermont's only National Park--the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller Historic Site in Woodstock, and New Hampshire's only National Park--St. Gauden's in Cornish, NH. Less than 4 miles from the Interstate exit, we are easy to find.
The Knights live here, but completely respect visitors' privacy and need for peace. If visitors need suggestions of things to do, directions to their day's destination, or help with a maintenance issue, the hosts are right there. Because we live on-site, the apartment is always impeccably maintained and completely stocked.
This place would be wonderful any season! Just a beautiful place to get away from it all! It is beautiful inside and outside! We had a wonderful time in Vermont and will never forget our stay at High Shelter Farm! Thank you Grace, Liza and Tess!
We really enjoyed our 3 night stay at High Shelter Farm. We were made to feel very welcome. The accommodation was beautifully clean and there was everything we could need. We loved exploring the area, and were very grateful to Grace for her helpful suggestions as to where we might like to visit. Very many thanks!
The cottage was immaculately clean and every possible need was anticipated and provided for. The weather was glorious and the views from the property were stunning. Grace met us with a bouquet of flowers and it was our pleasure to have had several conversations with her during our stay. We hope to return to High Shelter Farm and we highly recommend a visit there.
We recently enjoyed a second long summer stay at High Shelter Farm. We love the peace and quiet and the beauty of this property. The apartment is very comfortable and well appointed. The extensive trails, the pool, gardens and private patio – together with Grace's very warm ( yet never intrusive ) hospitality - all make us want to return again and again.
High Shelter Farm and the wonderful Grace and Randy have created a perfect retreat in what Grace calls Tuscany in Vermont. Every amenity is provided. Grace is not only charming, but a resource for all the local knowledge you will need to enjoy your stay in this verdant and peaceful corner of Vermont. Beautiful countryside, farm stands, hiking trails, restaurants, great places to visit, and golf are close by.
Ever since we returned, my husband and I can't stop thinking about our enjoyable trip to Vermont. It had the best of both worlds: the quiet relaxation of the country, with all the amenities of a luxury hotel. While we were slightly disappointed to discover that they no longer have sheep, chickens, etc., their two sweet, adorable dogs more than made up for it and were great company throughout our stay (and I'm normally a cat person!). Grace was a great host and even offered us fresh blueberries from a nearby farm while we were there. Hope to return soon!
In Weathersfield, VT (Postal address Perkinsville). 3 1/2 miles from Exit 8 of Interstate 91. All the charm of a dirt road with privacy, quiet, and forest and mountain views. But close to civilization. Grocery stores, restaurants for both fine and casual dining, 2 movie theatres are just a 15 minute drive. Thirty minutes to Okemo for skiing, forty minutes to Woodstock, VT. 30 minutes to Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH.
