From Siri (owner): I live in Berkeley Springs so I am always available if there any problems. My son, Kimball Lew-Hanson and I are the co-owners of this property.
I was born in Norway and this location reminds me of Norway.
Siri purchased this house in 1979
From Siri (owner): Trollbakken has welcomed five generations of our family and holds many great memories. The location on the mountain and in the woods gives a sense of serenity and provides privacy. We hope that you will enjoy it as much as we have.
We have been renting a place in the area every Christmas for past several years. We enjoy the crisp winter mountain air, and quiet retreat with friends. This property is so far the best we have visited. We love the owner's attention to detail in providing all the kitchen, bed, and bath items we may need during the stay. They had more than enough of all the essentials. House was spacious for the stated occupancy, and somehow cozy and private at the same time. There was a general feeling of welcome throughout the stay.
My family gathered for Thanksgiving at Trollbakken and the weekend met all our expectations. It was cold outside and the fire in the living room kept the house nice and toasty, as well as adding to the comfortable atmosphere. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed to prepare and serve the large meal. The house could use a little TLC because a few things were broken (ice maker, bathroom faucet, step outside) but the linens and beds were a good quality. We would definitely enjoy staying there again some day.
8 girlfriends and I had a weekend retreat at the mountain home. The size was perfect and the beds were very comfortable. We loved the wood stove, the open layout, the comfy couches, and the well-stocked kitchen. The home was clean and the deck was beautiful. We booked the home only three days prior to arrival and everything was sent in a very timely manner. Sarah was very quick to respond to communication. We also thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor gas fireplace. Our only complaint was that the propane tank was empty when we went to make the fire, so we had to switch it out with the tank under the gas grill instead. It was a beautiful setting for the fall and I'm certain would be very nice in the spring and summer too.
The area was beautiful. The house was very open and comfortable. We loved the deck with the fire pit. The screened in porch came in handy too when we played games and wanted feel the outside but needed to be inside. The Kitchen was a good size too. The water pressure was really good. We were however very disappointed in the wifi connection. Even with the management guys coming by - they could only tell us that the connection was poor in that area - however we have stayed at other homes in this neighborhood and had great wifi. So on the rainy day we would have loved to be able to watch a foot ball game but the constant stopping of the reception for several minutes then starting only to stop again in 5 minutes made it impossible to enjoy anything. Watch a movie ? Nope the DVR didn't work either. Additionally one of my grown children had a test that they needed to complete on line and had to leave early because of the wifi. The owners should improve the service package they have or not state that they have wifi in their advertisement. We did enjoy our stay - Thank you
We enjoyed our time with family very much at your house, accommodations were great, just as described. House was clean and well stocked, even during the power outage we had flashlights to use, thank you very much. John stopped by to see if we needed anything and brought trash bags for us. We would be interested in staying here again at some point in the future. A couple of things that could use attention are the deck railing and the squirrel living in the porch ceiling, came in to visit us at night when we were playing cards..I fastened down 8-10 deck rails so my grandson could not get through them. " Nails are working there way out". Mostly we hung out at the house with family, we did eat at the Angus and Ale, everyone enjoyed that restaurant.
We enjoyed our stay at Trollbakken very much! It was very homey and comfortable and we loved the large deck. Beds were comfy and kitchen was nice and we liked the large dining room table for our large family. We will recommend it to our friends!
