The owner and his late wife hired local architect Bruce Stahnke to design this off-the-grid house. His son (a master cabinetmaker) built it in 2012 to share with family. They enjoy bird watching fishing, boating, camping and exploring the nearby islands. He grew up coming here as a little kid on weekends and vacations with siblings and later his own boys. They would clamber and play on the beach all day and fall asleep to the sound of the waves. Now they enjoy sharing this paradise with people from all over the world.
Lensa Dietrich Woodward is manager (owner David Dietrich) purchased this house in 2012
This area has a lot to offer for people who love nature, forests, and the sea. We suggest you stop for groceries in Blue Hill before you get here because it's a bit of a drive to get them and you won't want to leave! There are two excellent food markets 40 minutes away in Blue Hill and a smaller one in Brooksville called Buck's Harbor Market with a great restaurant too. This location is safe, absolutely beautiful, quiet and remote. Relaxing on the screen porch with cold drink or taking in the sunset on the beach is a great way to end the day.

Also you may wish to call in an order for artisanal wood fired pizza to Tinder Hearth Bakery (Tuesdays and Fridays) (207) 326-8381
and pick up some currant scones or chocolate croissants for the next day's breakfast while you're there. A low key afternoon could include strolling the sidewalks of Castine village and swimming at Wadsworth Cove Beach just outside of Castine. Back in Brooksville, you will be able to see for miles after hiking up John B. Mountain Trail http://bluehillheritagetrust.org/john-b-mountain/
…Try a more formal dinner at the Brooklin Inn..Dancing at the Flash In The Pans steel band street dance (locations change but it's always Monday nights usually at the Blue Hill Town Park). Getting a Spiced Mocha at Black Dinah's Chocolatiers in Blue Hill. Galleries and antique shops are abundant and good. See a movie at The Alamo Theatre in Bucksport. Take in guided kayak tours from Stonington...Get home-made ginger ice cream at Morton's Moo in Ellsworth. And oh yes…of course, there's that breathtaking and famous Acadia National Park too, with fun Bar Harbor shops, cafes, Acadia Improv, great breakfast at Two Cats, mountain biking and day sails... so much to do.
We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful Maine home. The best part I thought was having your own private beach! I would hesitate in staying here again or recommending to anyone wanting to vacation in Maine. There was so many other activities I had planned for our family to do but once we arrived no one wanted to leave. We did enjoy the use of the boats and playing ping-pong.
We couldn't have asked for more for our home away from home! The house was so clean and accommodating. It was so thought out down to every detail. It's a little more to itself and that was my favorite part. It made for such a peaceful getaway. Waking up to the sounds of nature and taking the short walk down to the private pebble beach was amazing and so relaxing. We visited the Blue Hill area not far away and ate at The Fishnet and it was delicious with such a fun setting. We stayed 3 nights and it was not near enough time to enjoy this little piece of paradise!
This is a beautiful vacation rental! The house is represented accurately in the listing and was very clean. The house is well equipped with a nicely stocked kitchen. The garage/work space includes foosball and ping pong which we enjoyed most evenings. We played croquet as well. There are boats, canoe, and kayaks to enjoy Orr cove. Buck's restaurant in South Brooksville is worth a trip. We would love to return to this amazing spot and we highly recommend it.
What more could we have asked form - nothing. This is a clean and welcoming exquisite solar home on a gorgeous site located 200 feet from a beautiful freestone beach with sunset views, 5 human powered boats for our use and a picnic site. We were 20 minutes from Buck's, a 4+ star restaurant in Bucks Harbor. We paddled in the morning and enjoyed fine dining in Buck's Harbor and Blue Hill in the evenings. The owner and his representative could not have been more accessible and accommodating. The "house book" was informative, cautionary with respect to Penobscot Bay and paddling, and fun - it even had wiki-how instructions for making French press coffee and boiling lobster.
This is a clean, solar home located in a beautiful, secluded part of Maine with access to numerous beautiful beaches. Property owner was extremely accommodating, allowing any number of guests to camp on the property for our wedding weekend. The property has a spectacular beach a short distance from the home , though the beach and water are not visible from the home since it is situated on a more secluded part of the property. There are boats for use, a picnic table to sit at with your morning coffee overlooking a beautiful view, a grill and a cool outdoor shower. A flexible, accommodating owner and a beautiful part of Maine made this the perfect choice.
About 1 hr 45 min from Acadia Nat'l Park. Whale watching/nature cruises, shopping, Abbe Museum, many restaurants in Bar Harbor (town closest to ANP) Kayak rental, bike rental available in area. This property is less than two miles to Holbrook Island Nature sanctuary with lots of beautiful hiking trails. You may see beavers, hawks, and other birds in the sanctuary.
