Guestbook comments from the owner

Hello Carmen,

I am really sorry for the delay in contacting you. We had a fabulous holiday and absolutely loved your beautiful lodge. Ray was like a seven year old at Disney World, he was so excited! He was almost overwhelmed with the choice of fishing spots. He says it was actually a bit like being on the set of a Disney movie... standing out in the river watching a herd of elk cross over to the other side, a golden eagle swooping across the sky; moose sheltering in the woods from the rain.... and of course the black bear that ambled down and took a drink form the Gallatin, before crossing over to the other side! (Luckily the bear appeared on the last day when Ray was by himself and I was relaxing in your lodge because I probably wouldn't have gone near the river again!) It's a long, long way from life in Belfast!

Kind Regards,

Hilary

Sandie

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I met my two brothers and their wives for our annual get-together. We enjoyed a four night stay over the July 4th holiday and it was wonderful! Although we did take a couple of short day trips, we spent most of our time at the cabin enjoying the beautiful river. We had the pleasure of befriending a family of American Dippers (ouzels) who were nesting above the patio. Watching the babies leave the nest and the parents teaching them to navigate the rocks along the river - and diving/swimming in the water! - was amazing. The sound of the water rushing over the rocks was hypnotic and truly brought about a peacefulness that's hard to find in our everyday lives. The cabin itself was nicely decorated, very well stocked (cooking items, linens, bathroom items, etc.), and was spotless upon our arrival. I'm sorry I didn't get to meet Carmen, but she was so easy to work with both before and after our trip. We found everything exactly as promised with no issues of any kind.

Big Sky ski weekend.

  • 5 of 5

Closing weekend of skiing at Big Sky Resort and our stay was excellent and the cabin is well equipped for everything you need to walk in and be right at home. Kitchen is well stocked with all amenities for cooking, and cleanup, and bedrooms and bathrooms are nice and well stocked with linens and towels and such with no need for any shopping other than our own meal prep!

Wonderful Cabin

  • 4 of 5

Our family of four, including two teenagers, stayed for 5 nights and had a great time. This was our first visit in the summer as our previous visit 2 years ago was in the winter to ski and snowboard. The house is wonderful, everything you need, nicely decorated and furnished. The river right outside the door was perfect, but there is definitely some road noise that could be distracting at times (only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5.) We visited Yellowstone, Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center, Ousel Falls, the farmer's market, Bozeman Stampede and did the 'Paddle and Saddle' trip with Montana Whitewater which was a half day horseback ride in the morning with a half day rafting trip in the afternoon. Everything was great and we would recommend the activities and Carmen's great cabin to anyone!

Beautiful Cabin on the River

  • 5 of 5

Well Big Sky is growing up but we still had a moose in our yard on the first evening and about the 4th day we saw her again. We have not visited for six years and there is much growth and many great activities in the summer for families. We visited with our son and grandchildren and this cabin was perfect for us. Carmen has done a great job of supplying the "stuff" you need to just move in with your suitcases and live. The kitchen is well supplied so that you don't have to buy spices, etc. Having a washer/dryer is a wonderful gift when you are traveling for a few weeks. And the location is easily accessible. Amazing fly fishing is nearby, the river that runs through the property provides a wonderful relaxing view and the sounds. The main road going to the ski resorts is near…might bother some but the road sounds were covered by the sounds of the running water. There is a bike path that runs to town center and perhaps all the way up the mountain as well as out to the main road. It would be great to bring bikes to use this as well as walking or running. We were there in July and there were wonderful activities every day--hiking the Ousel Falls (do it, it is beautiful), community music, Wednesday Farmers Market and food trucks, a Food Festival, activities on the mountain for kids, and did I say fly fishing and river trips? Town Center is about a mile up the road towards the mountain. The best activities were the Falls and the community activities. I think the activities on the mountain (Ski Resort) are ridiculously expensive…but the grandchildren loved them. Quite commercialized and run by teenagers. Also, you are close (45 minutes) to West Yellowstone and the amazing Wolf and Grizzly exhibit (again worth doing).

Next visit to Big Sky…this will be our place. Loved it. Love the area.

Owner's Response: Thank you for sharing your "Rivers Refuge" experience. It warms my heart that you had such a great time making memories with your grand children and topping it off with Mama Moose visiting you at the cabin is very special... Thank you for mentioning the Bike Trail too! I need to put that in my list of activities.... I look forward to having you back!

Excellent stay at the lodge

  • 5 of 5

This was the first time my friends and I have been to Big Sky. We all met up there to do some fly fishing in the region. First of the Big Sky area is beautiful. Its an amazing place to see and adventure in. This house is equally as great. The location right off the street was easy to get in and out of. It wasn't to far from the main highway and stores/gas locations which was nice. With the stream running right outside the door the vibe was awesome. Wake up in the morning or lounge at sunset with the stream running was awesome. The amenities in the house had everything we needed. No issues at all. We were able to cook meals with the supplied appliances and dinnerware. With three bathrooms and 3 bedrooms there was plenty of room for all of us to sleep comfortably. Overall this place is great. Thank you again for sharing your house with us for our vacation.

Beautiful luxury cabin on the river but right in town. Perfect in every way.

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in many places when visiting Big Sky but have never found anything as beautiful and perfect as River's Refuge. Being on the river but still being right in town is almost impossible to find. It's what Montana is all about at this cabin which is an absolute showpiece and should be in a magazine. The beds are so comfortable with very nice linens and elegant decor and the master bathroom is enormous with a fantastic steam shower and having radiant floor heating is truly unbeatable any time of the year. Great cell service and being a mile from the meadow made for a nice evening walk to a restaurant or to my workout class at Fitness Fusion. Carmen is an absolute delight to work with and couldn't have been nicer or more helpful when we booked the cabin. This is a very special place and I think anyone visiting Big Sky should absolutely choose River's Refuge.
