This large, family owned furnished home, known as the Conrad/Zachman House, is located on 175 feet of private Elk Lake frontage which provides wonderful opportunities for swimming, diving and jumping from the dock, boating (canoe, rowboat, and sunfish sailboat provided,)and just relaxing or reading by the water. The house is just a 5 minute car ride or a fun bike ride, (some bikes provided), to the charming Village of Elk Rapids and its very child friendly Lake Michigan beach and playground.
This versatile home offers an ideal gathering place for three generation family vacations, smaller groups, or a romantic getaway for a couple.
The sleeping spaces consist of: 1.A large master bedroom on the main floor with a queen bed, a double size hideabed, and a large bath with a jacuzzi tub; 2.another main floor bedroom with two single beds which can be pushed together to form a king size bed; 3.an upstairs apartment over the master bedroom with two bedrooms (one with a queen bed and the other with two singles,) a shared bath, and a small deck; 4.another upstairs bedroom, above the living room, with a queen bed and a 1/2 bath; 5.a lower level sleeping area with a queen sofa bed and two single beds (plus a pull out single trundle bed and a rollway single bed); 6.a double size hideabed in the sunroom/lake room.
The full kitchen, a separate dining room, a large living room, a sun room, and a recreation/sleeping area in the lower level (with pool table,) combine with the large yards and a beautiful waterfront and dock to provide great spaces for both togetherness and separateness when needed.
In addition to the great waterfront area, there are large outdoor spaces for croquet, badminton, volleyball, playing catch, and general outdoor play, as well as picnicking, sunbathing, and reading. A week at the Conrad/Zachman House is truly a delightful way to spend your summer vacation.
We hosted our entire wedding party and their dates during our long wedding weekend. We had a full house, 16 guests fit comfortably without needing to use the common areas. The house is very charming, lots of different styles, tile patterns, and wall paper, but exactly the cozy/funky vibe we were looking for. Each bedroom has a different feel - we especially loved the upstairs deck off one of the bedrooms, as well as the 'library' bedroom. The yard is massive, with a great view and access to Elk Lake. We loved using the firepit, benches, and grill. We needed an unusual date, and the owner was friendly and very easy to work with throughout the entire process.
We just had our 8th years stay at the "Brownhouse." It's an excellent place to stay for familiies large and small. It accomidates our large family very nicely. The owners are extremeily friendly and the house is alway spotless upon our arrivlal. I completely agree with the previous review. The views, waterfront, land are beautiful. We look forward to our vacation at the "Brownhouse" every year.
We have had the pleasure of renting this house for the past 8 years during our annual trip to Michigan. There is something very magical about "The Brownhouse" (as it is called on the sign by the front door). It has great Elk Lake frontage, and is only a 5 minute BIKE from downtown Elk Rapids. We never run out of things to do. The yard is huge and perfect for Bocce, frisbee, Badminton, Volleyball, or just spreading out some chairs and sunbathing. I recommend bringing bikes because it is such an easy bike to a cool downtown.
I highly recommend staying here if you are coming to Elk Rapids, or even if you are coming to other areas from Traverse City to the East and North.
House was charming and accommodated our group quite well. The property is large with plenty of room for everyone to do whatever they wanted outside. We were fortunate to have beautiful weather which made our stay so much more enjoyable. Really like the extra refrigerator in the garage as we used it the entire time. Liked the area the house was located and the proximity to the Village Market and restaurants. Owner was very responsive to inquiries and easy to deal with. Would definitely go back!
The only negative is we would have liked to bring our dog which wasn't permitted.
