This was our first time to Juan Dolio. My husband and I had been to many other areas of the DR and decided to visit this small, quaint town filled with the warmth of the Dominican spirit. We were pleasantly surprised. The condo was spacious with the most spectacular views at any time of day (although my favorite was at sunrise) on the beautiful balcony. We had drinks over looking the beautiful Caribbean and watched the sunsets, read and took mid day siestas.
The bedrooms were modern and comfortable. Everything was there for your convenience and comfort.........kitchen and bath essentials, linens and towels. Washer and dryer. The owner was on site at the time and was accommodating and extremely helpful. He showed us the town from incredible restaurants to fabulous dancing and karaoke! Overall, we had a blast and plan to return to a place we feel we could call home each year if only for a brief time. Juan Dolio is a wonderful town with quiet untouched beaches, nightlife, incredible food and warm, friendly natives. Enjoy Juan Dolio and a little piece of heaven!

I cannot put into the right words how much we loved our vacation staying in Raul's condominium. We were picked up when we arrived at the airport by Isaac, who is Raul's contact in Juan Dolio, and we fell in love with him. He was incredible as far as taking care of all our needs. We did a major grocery stop before the condo, to buy all our staples. The store is called JUMBO, and has everything you could possibly need besides groceries and liquor. The condo property is what you will expect from the photos. Actually I have to say Raul's pictures do not give it justice, the views are prettier, and the pictures cannot describe the wonderful sound of the surf, that we enjoyed throughout the day. The restaurants nearby were amazing, and I will have reviews on Trip Advisor for most of them we went to. Our favorites were El Embarcadero, Bella Venezia, El Meson, Paladar, and Da Oreste (in old Juan Dolio).
The complex is very secure, and the beach well guarded, but keep in mind that there is a lot of poverty, and we did not walk in the surrounding area at night. The complex has a cab company they use , and we met a driver, Luis, and we called for him every night. When he drove us to "old Juan Dolio", he actually waited for us, as the area is "so-so", and he walked us into the restaurants and made sure we were safe. Also, I want to mention we were there 4th of July week, which is a very slow tourist time in Juan Dolio, so there were not a lot of Americans.
The staff that works at the Marbella complex are all so courteous, and helpful. The buldings are immaculate, and Raul's condo is clean, and lovely. We came home and sat on our balcony here in downtown Chicago, and just missed the relaxing sounds of the beach at Marbella, and look so forward to our next visit there. Raul could not have been more "on top" of checking in with us, and making sure our questions were all answered, and our requests were taken care of. He even left a bottle of wine for us when we arrived, after I had asked him if there were places to buy decent wines close by. That is a very thoughtful host!
We were married in Zihuatenejo, Mexico, 30 years ago, and Juan Dolio now reminds us of how that area of Mexico was before it became "Americanized".
You will love the charm, but if you need Americanized places, there are towns nearby........
Property was very well kept and everything was as expected. Owner's customer service and follow up during our stay was great. Would recommend!
Outstanding property Well appointed and extremely
well maintained The owner could not have been
nicer or more cooperative.
I would advise to try and reserve this unit when it
becomes available I know I will not want to stay at
any other property!!
Please read my review since I critique places to stay like a vulture. I will tell you that Raul's condo and the property is absolutely more than I expected. Raul contacted me constantly to assure everything was going well. This is certainly not the norm nowadays and was so much appreciated. Raul is the best person to rent from and he probably does not realize it. The condo and grounds were immaculate and the grounds staff were awesome. While I plan to visit other islands, this condo complex would be on my top 3 in the island world. You have to want peace, quite and paradise to enjoy the property. This was perfect for us and I cannot thank Raul enough for his generosity! Thank you for a wonderful 2 week vacation! Excursions can be booked for this area through Faenza for Catalina Island, (a must do), ziplining and horseback riding. I would not recommend the horseback riding since it is not a beach ride and my daughter and granddaughter were not comfortable during this excursion.
We were picked up at the Las Americas airport by Isac, who is Raul's right hand man here in Juan Dolio, Raul called us on the phone in the car to welcome us and make sure everything was alright. Isac then took us to buy groceries in San Pedro, there are a couple of mini-markets by the condo but for a larger trip you need to go to the Jumbo or Iberia in San Pedro. We found a fellow named Franko who would take us for groceries, wait for us, and then bring us back for 500 peso, that's about $15 Cdn or $11 US. You can arrange for Franko at Guillia's restaurant which is across the street from the complex, and while there try one of her pancake breakfasts, yummy.
On arrival at the condo 12 cold beer were waiting for us in the fridge to help us enjoy our first day, there are no words to express how breathtaking the sea view is from the balcony. The condo is very spacious, comfortable, and well equipped, we quickly made ourselves right at home.
The complex itself is so well maintained, the staff are friendly and hard working and will do anything to help you. Even the general manager would stop by and make sure everything was alright. We have stayed in other complex's before but never encountered this level of management, cleanliness and security, we always felt very safe.
The complex is very quiet during the week, with a busier atmosphere on the weekends as condo owners come in from Santo Domingo, but it was still never so crowded you couldn't get a lounger in the shade or chair by the pool.
We found many restaurants in the general area with excellent food, El Mason was our favorite, they have a paella with seafood made with noodles instead of rice that was our dish of the year, a must try. If you ask to have it "clean" they will peel the shrimp and langostina for you.
There is a new liquor store just opened across the street from the Banco Popular, called the Drink Store. They have a shaded patio with tables and chairs and you buy your drinks by the bottle at grocery store prices, they then give you cups and ice and you can sit and watch the world go by. The best beer prices in town are at the Presidente store across the street from the complex, can also buy cold beer here and enjoy.
The best for last, the condo owners, Raul and his lovely wife Ana have been spectacular to rent from. Any concerns or questions were addressed usually within minutes. He was always checking in to make sure everything was perfect and we will be back next year.
