Words cannot describe the 'peaceful easy feeling' this beachfront property offers. When you wake in the morning and look out towards the sea, it feels as if you are floating on the water, the house is so close to the sea. The magical garden is filled with hundreds of flowers providing a healing space to relax and revive. The villa is located near the beach town of Lovina. The area is rural and quaint, a place where you can still experience the 'real Bali' away from the crowded tourist traps in the South. The staff who attend to the villa are wonderful local Balinese who will share their life with you and provide any service you require from home cooked meals daily, tours directly from the house, daily massages, shopping trips etc... Or, they can leave you in total privacy if that is preferred. The house has spectacular artwork, high speed wireless internet, cable TV, and an extensive DVD library. If you want to revive and regenerate this is the place for you ! Don't miss this paradise!
I was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, went to college in Portland, Oregon, lived in Japan for many years and now reside in Los Angeles California. I travel about 8 months of the year on business, and my favorite place on earth is my villa in Lovina.
The Owner purchased this villa in 2007
I have been a lover of the beach my entire life. I travel constantly for work, mostly throughout Asia, and have found a wonderful place to come and unwind, in a peaceful and nurturing environment right on the beach, with exquisite gardens. I chose this location because it is not overly touristic, the local people are wonderful and the views are absolutely breathtaking. It is a wonderful place to relax and heal the spirit.
This villa is truly a unique blend of absolute direct beachfront beauty and an amazingly quaint and extensive garden. It is colorful and has a wonderful energy. The staff who attend to your every needs are very special, kind and make each guest feel like this is their home. It is a truly unique experience staying at this villa. We've added some fun equipment; ping-pong table, 2 rebounder trampolines, 2 bikes with helmets and aa stand-up surf board (SUP) at no extra cost.
I couldn't be happier. The villa was everything I was hoping for and more. It is a beautiful place right on the oceans edge, very private and yet close enough to town that ordering food or going to a restaurant was easy. Kadek was marvellous, she took care of any requests and made sure we were looked after fully. I fully expect that I will be back. If you want to get away this is the place!
Beautiful, fully equipped villa with lovely grounds, nice private pool and access to a clean black sand beach through the back gate. A short Bemo ride to town and shopping. Occasional noise from nearby sea-do rental business, but overall very peaceful. Staff are friendly and helpful.
We stayed at this wonderful villa for 15 nights and had the most perfect of holidays.
Believe every word of the write up because it's so true.
Kadek and Koko are exactly as described in all of the reviews and even helped me when I needed to visit a doctor during our stay.
This villa is as close to the beach and sea as it looks and is the most amazing location.
We were taken all over Bali by drivers and they couldn't do enough for you.
There isn't anything we can criticise regarding our stay at Villa Kupa Kupa and will certainly visit again.
Many thanks everyone.
This place has a beautiful pool in a great garden and is perfectly located on the black beach. It is an interesting home with lots of personal touches and friendly staff (delicious food). Its just a five minute bemo ride into Lovina (blue bemo or white coastal bus).
Villa Kupu Kupu is a special place that stands out from the surrounding villas. You can't but be happy here. Right on the beach, but private and hidden from it by a lush garden, the villa has been carefully and tastefully decorated by the owner, Jody. Lots of color, paintings, and sculptures, and -- best of all -- a collection of lamps like you've never seen! They hang like jewels from the open thatched roof and make the place truly magical, especially at night.
We spent 10 days here, 7 of which we just lolled around reading, sunning, sleeping, swimming (pool and ocean), and sipping at the house. The other 3 days we toured. Drivers are easy to organize: they pick you up at the house, punctual as a Swiss train, and take you off to nearby sights such as waterfalls, temples, coffee plantations, the market, hot springs, etc, or as far away as you want, all day long for very reasonable prices. Driving on the crowded streets is crazy in Bali so tourists tend not to rent cars, relying on drivers instead. If we visit again, we might consider renting a scooter (the most popular means of travel in Bali), but then again -- not. Driver Rio transported us to the villa from the airport (3 hour drive away from the touristy South), and back to the airport at the end of our stay -- kind, helpful Jody can help you organize this. We took a side trip to Ubud (Rio's home) on the last day and he did a great job showing us around.
From the villa, you can also walk down the beach 5 minutes to the spiffy new water sports center, where we went parasailing and had cocktails and a snack. If you are hungry, Kadek (the wonderful housekeeper) can cook you a delicious, one-dish meal or you can order food delivered to the house. Though my husband and I love to cook, we didn't end up cooking ourselves during this trip. We were in total relaxation mode, though we found ourselves getting up early every day to enjoy the sunrise (stunning!), then have our morning coffee by the pool. The temperature is approx. 80-85 24/7, so it's nice and warm in the morning. Be sure to bring Nespresso capsules for the house machine! And know that alcohol (especially hard liquor) is pretty expensive in Bali. Everything else is cheap, and it's a friendly, safe, beautiful, spiritual place. Little altars everywhere!
Thank you to Jody, Kadek, Koko (the pool boy), Rio, and Putu (our other driver) for making Bali and our stay at Villa Kupu Kupu so wonderful! We hope to return.
This is such a relaxing/quiet villa! Beautiful view! Kadek makes you feel at home, looks after all your needs and her cooking is good! I would recommend anyone to stay here, and would stay again if we were in the area!

Sunrise boat trips to see dolphins is one of Lovina's most popular tourist activities. Rather than join the large groups of tourists departing from the center of Lovina, you will be picked up in front of Villa Kupu Kupu and taken on a private boat trip to watch these amazing creatures put on a show as the sun rises.
SCUBA DIVING & SNORKELLING: Lovina is an ideal place to discover the underwater world of Bali. Scuba diving on the local reef is better at lower depths and night diving is particularly recommended. Generally, the water is clear and some parts of the reef are quite good for snorkelling. The best place is to the west, a few-hundred metres offshore from Billibo Beach Cottages. There are several Padi certified dive operators and teachers based out of Lovina that operate daily dive trips. Menjangan Island is one of the spots near Lovina where one can discover the colourful underwater world. Amed and Tulamben (wreck dive) are within reach as well. Guides are available in a variety of languages and multi-day discounts are available. Beginner courses and advanced diving excursions are available from various shops located in downtown Lovina.
GIT-GIT WATERFALL: A 40 meter high waterfall. A path of about 1 km filled with souvenir warungs and shops where you can buy cheap clothes takes you to one the most breathtaking waterfalls in Bali. Sit down and relax with the sound of the water, falling in the bouldered river.
BUDDHIST MONASTERY & TEMPLES: In the hills of Banjar is a Buddhist monastery. It is in a fabulous location, very peaceful, and the decoration is beautiful. East of Lovina you can find Beji Temple in Sangsit which is dedicated to the Rice Goddess, Jagaraja. To the west of Lovina is Pulaki Temple, which is crowded with wild monkeys who are considered descendants of Dewa (God). Ulundanu Temple is located near Bedugul.
AIR BANJAR HOT SPRINGS: Located west of Lovina, Air Banjar (or Panjar) is an enchanting hot springs with stone carved mouths gushing water amongst a lush garden setting. Komang Dodik leads highly recommended hikes in the hills along the north coast. Trips start at 250,000Rp per person and can last from three to seven hours. The highlight of most is a series of waterfalls, over 20m high, in a jungle grotto. Routes can include coffee and vanilla plantations.
OTHER WATER SPORTS: At Lovina beach you can do Para sailing, waterskiing and kneeboarding.
GILI ISLANDS: Around on the east coast of Bali in Amrd there are boat trips to Gilis Meno Island and Lombok at 550,000 Rp one way trip. Gilis Islands are really fun with a great nightlife / party scene.

A path leads to the gorge and all levels of hikers will find the view of these multiple falls breathtaking. Or climb down the series of stairs to arrive beneath the falls and take in the spray.
JEEP TREKS- Ride on the back roads through the clove and coffee plantations for a glimpse of Bali most people never see. This intimate look at the life of Bali and the extraordinary views of the Bali Sea at sunset is often a highlight of guests' trip to North Bali.
COOKING CLASSES: There are several excellent cooking classes in the Lovina area.
