The small quaint town of AuTrain is a resort community. Lake Superior's AuTrain Beach is clean, sandy beach as well as the AuTrain Local groceries, canoe liveries, and family owned restaurants are all within a short distance.
Located just 10 miles from Munising making a trip to Pictured Rocks National Park just a short drive away, as well as Grand Island which is accessible by boat. A day on the water or just sitting and relaxing on the large patio deck overlooking beautiful Lake Superior will make your vacation one you'll never forget.
Stayed there early October, our first time in the UP and our 5th beach/vacation house rental. Really love the outdoor decks, close proximity to Lake Superior, great home layout for two families. 10 minute drive to Munising and pictured rocks, close to a general store and two restaurants. Right off 28, and never felt like it was a busy road.
House did lack kitchen wares I tipically expect, like a mixer, measuring cups, spoons, larger pots, etc. but not sure what's typical in this area.
Rusty colored water isn't welcoming either.
But.... Again it's right on Lake Superior! And the beach behind it is top notch with excellent sand, very quiet too!
This place was so beautiful! Our years of planning a girl's only trip were brought to life in the best way. Seven of us stayed and were able to sleep comfortably. The beach is right out the back door, only a few steps and you are there. On warm days, the best place to be. The deck is great as well, you are able to relax and listen to the waves roll in, while having a phenomenal view. It is secluded enough for the privacy and peace and quiet you're looking for but still close enough to lots of sight seeing opportunities and a couple of decent sized towns for good eating, maybe a little shopping, etc. The only down fall (besides the typical and totally expected Northwoods bugs!) was the water quality...bring your bottled water and be prepared to have a somewhat stinky shower due to the iron deposits. Definitely not enough of a down fall to put any kind of damper on the stay, however. We have sworn to return in the future!!!
One of the best vacations we have gone on with the family. Was perfect!
As parents of a 6 yo and a set of toddler twins this beautiful beach home couldn't be any more perfect. The images do not do it justice. It has everything that you need to spend a week in comfort with a beautiful beach right out your back door and a spectacular view. We will certainly return.
Property was a great size for a family reunion. The large rooms, kitchen and outdoor space allowed the family many options for fun. The beach was perfect and we had it to ourselves. Basement was a bonus. I loved the picture windows especially in bedroom one; what a great way to wake up every day! We even had a pair of bald eagles flying over and hummingbirds off the porch.Kitchen was well stocked. Enjoyed the big towels and comfy beds
My family's week at this home exceeded our expectations. We had 5 boys ages 15-26, my husband and I. The property was very clean, and well maintained. Pride in ownership was apparent. The basement sleeping area with bathroom was a bonus we did not count on. The description of that space was vague in the listing. The was PLENTY of room for all of us to relax, etc...Lake Superior was calm the week we were there- no one on the beach. We floated, beach combed (awesome rocks left down the beach) the boys played Volleyball at Au Train beach. We did a Shipwreck tour, then rented a pontoon boat the next day. Highly recommend this! We marveled and swam in the crystal waters, waterfalls, and jumped off giant rocks!! Brownstone Inn-must do. Also, go to a health food store in your hometown to purchase a concoction to repel flies, etc..they were brutal. This was a private , beautiful property. We would return.
