About Robert and Patricia Banach

Bob and Pat are recently retired. We enjoy sharing our special place in Maine with guests.

Robert and Patricia Banach purchased this cottage in 1987

Why Robert and Patricia Banach chose Trenton

We love the peace and quiet on our 200 feet of private beach. We love the view across the bay to the mountains of Acadia National Park.We love watching the sunrise from the sun porch and the moon on the water at night. And we love watching to see a glimpse of seals in the bay.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed there late May 2011 and it was great. It's on the mainland, very near the lobster pounds and the bridge to Mt. Desert Island. The location is the best of both worlds. The cabin had all of the needed amenities, but still retained the rustic qualities and atmosphere of being a cabin. It's exactly as the pictures on the web site show it. We feasted on lobsters and steamers in the eating area which has such a beautiful view! No TV, which was great. It's in a nice quiet area, on a very tiny road. We saw a (smaller type) whale right from the cabin!

Don't miss the really cool nearby medium-sized grocery store nearby "hidden" with the gas station. Or, a few miles away on the mainland you can find all of the big stores. We settled on a family-run place just outside of Bar Harbor as our favorite place to buy lobsters to cook at the cabin. Be sure to visit the other smaller towns on the island in addition to Bar Harbor. Everything there is the real thing.

The owners were great to deal with. We loved the cabin, the area, and had a great time.

Perfect Acadia Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We spent five days exploring Mt. Desert Island from this lovely little cottage. Every live-in vacation detail was attended to, from saucepans to binoculars. We had a range of spring weather, but were always comfortable thanks to the wood stove and the sunny morning porch. We watched seals play from the deck and walked the rocky beach at low tide. Guest books going back 20+ years gave wonderful suggestions for hikes and eats, and the accounts were testimony to our host's good sense and hospitality. Upgrades such as a skylight and the wood stove were made in accordance with guest recos. Local artwork and regional flair was tastefully on display and never overdone. My sister and I sincerely hope to return someday and will encourage friends and family to book here in the future.

THIS is Maine

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I chose this cottage for a long-awaited trip to see Maine in the fall. We arrived after dark, but the porch light was on and we had the information to unlock the door. Everything was just like the pictures show - but a picture can't show the feeling, most simply described as "comfortable" -- like a visit to your grandmother's house. The floors creak in a soft way that made us smile. The screen doors brought back fond memories of childhood. The bedrooms were cozy with quilts and dressers, rugs and lamps. The wood stove stands in the corner ready to go. The next morning we were greeted with a view we couldn't have imagined. The sunrise was SPECTACULAR EVERY MORNING. We couldn't stop watching even when the gold touched the water and almost became blinding. The tide had gone out and the beach was covered with shells. One day when we saw the tide in, the water was covering huge rocks that we had been able to walk on, and it was up to the bottom of the steps that lead down the hill to the beach. The house sits away from the road, closer to the hill and secluded. We may have heard two cars the entire stay. The trees were red and gold; the ground fresh and mossy; the house red and homey. The sun porch was the best. Looking out over that bay at any time of day or night was mesmerizing. The way the windows open sideways directed the breeze in and a person could easily sit there for hours. Shelves around the walls of every room hold shells and rocks and little treasures from the beach. A book on the coffee table has notes from previous guests and we could tell they felt the same way we do about the house. We were also able to get some good ideas about places to see and eat. The kitchen is supplied with utensils, dishes, cooking pots, and appliances. We cooked breakfast two of the mornings we were there and ate on the porch while the sun blazed through the back window and the wood stove burned off the chill. Wood is provided, and a box of papers and things to use as fire starter - just like grandpa's. :) This isn't a hotel or an inn. There's no tv (didn't miss it AT all), or a fancy tub (who cares), or anything "flashy". Those things would be out of place here. It's a delightful old house full of charm situated on what has to be one of the most glorious points in the state. It will quickly feel like home, and you'll find it hard to lock that door and walk away. It is our vision of the way Maine should be.

Perfect cottage on the water

  • 5 of 5

Exactly what you hope for, a cozy cottage on the water with convenient access to Acadia. Very quiet location, most places in the area are located on the main roads. The bay gets very calm so we were able to easily kayak around and check out the nearby island that has no development at all. Only a half hour drive to all of Acadia. Owners were very easy to work with, and the place was in excellent condition when we arrived. Looking forward to another visit.

Perfect Cabin on the Water in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was perfect for us! It was a short, easy drive into Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, and also into Southwest Harbor. We got up early each day and enjoyed breakfast on the enclosed porch overlooking the water. Enjoyed some wonderful hikes during the day (highlights were Precipice, Beehive and Penobscot Mountain). Also rented bikes and rode the Carriage Roads one day which we highly recommend. The fall colors were beautiful and pretty much at peak in the Park. In the evenings, we'd have dinner in town and looked forward to heading back to the cabin to build a fire in the wood burning stove and sit around listening to music and visiting. Absolutely loved our stay at the Banach cabin!!

Could not have been more perfect

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we walked through the door, we felt like we were home. Bob and Pat have thought of everything one could possibly need. The location could not be more perfect - close to activities in Acadia/Bar Harbor yet just far enough away from the hustle and bustle in order to relax. Our week was full of adventure (hiking, biking, kayaking) as well as unwinding - either on the wonderful sun porch, on the deck or on the private beach. I have already highly recommended this cottage to family and friends - and hope to have the opportunity to stay here again in the future.

Cozy Cottage on Western Bay

  • 5 of 5

We had such a great time staying in this cozy cottage. The sunroom overlooking the water was my favorite place to sit. We saw seals playing and the fog rolling in at night. At high tide, you can hear the water from the master bedroom which just lulled us to sleep. The kitchen has everything you need to cook meals if you want. Although there is not a washer and dryer, the kitchen sink is plenty big to rinse out a few items of clothes. Also, there is no wifi or TV which we thought was a bonus and we didn't miss either one at all! There is a radio so we listened to music. Cell service (Verizon) worked great! You can rent kayaks from a local company that will deliver right to the cabin (or bring your own) so we enjoyed the Western Bay waterfront access from the cabin. The cabin is located on a very quiet road and only 7 miles from the main entrance to Acadia National Park, 9 miles to Bar Harbor, and 10 miles to Ellsworth. We did not have any traffic to deal with. Lots of restaurants nearby and an IGA grocery that has everything else you might need. They even sell spirits and Maine's famous blueberry wine. Thank you Pat and Bob for sharing your cabin and we hope we can get to Maine again soon. There are many more hiking trails that we need to do.
