About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths

Refined & Rustic 3 bedroom 2 full bath cabin within a 5 minute walking distance to the ski lifts, zoo, and golf course and ride your bike to the mountain biking park - all at great rates.

Sit in the large private spa and looking up at the beautiful mountain view in the day time, or at night with the beautiful star filled skies.

There's no shortage of other comforts. A gas BBQ grill out back, natural stone fireplace, full kitchen, bar, a 55' tv with cable, pool table, air hockey and ping pong in the great room.

Near to recreational Big Bear Lake for fishing, boating, & jet skiing, with restaurants, rentals, shopping centers, movie theatres just down the road, but out of sight of this cute cabin in the trees set back from the road.

Winter is a great time for your family or ski party to discover Bear Mountain Chalet. Its quaint chalet exterior and 600 sqf deck that wraps around the house, is a vivid contrast to the snow that covers the wide open spaces that separate the chalet from neighboring cabins. Hand carved wooden bears all around the decks that the kids can sit on, and the mountain provides privacy for the large spa in the back.

Set back far from Deer Canyon Road, Bear Mountain Chalet will make you feel like you have stepped back 50 years to a more serene Big Bear before it was discovered by Southern California as the perfect alternative to Aspen or Vale. Imagine walking to the ski lifts at Bear Mountain Resort without having to rise at dawn to find a parking space in the resort's main parking lot. No longer will you have to be herded like cattle in those open flat-bed trucks from distant auxiliary lots. You can also walk to the nearby Moonridge Animal Park to visit the inhabitants of the surrounding San Bernardino National Forest.

Step inside its original diamond-paned front door and you will be in the spacious Bear Mountain Chalet great room. It features T&G wood ceilings, supported by large, rugged beams and a very large natural stone fireplace. You'll also find a huge 55' flat-screen television, with access to numerous cable channels. For the game players, there's a pool table, air hockey, and ping pong. A large glass door take up one wall of the great room and lead out to the large back deck with its spa, and BBQ, private sledding hill and private mountain views.

Also part of the great room is the dining area and the fully-equipped kitchen. Let Mom relax in front of the large, flat-screen TV with a glass of wine while Dad and the older kids prepare dinner. You can even keep one eye on the young ones, who will want to head outdoors whenever they can. The mountain views are right outside the kitchen windows.

There's also a 15 foot bar and barstools if night time activities and entertaining are what your after.

When it's time for the rest of your family or group to bunk down after an active day, Bear Mountain Chalet can sleep 8 adults three bedrooms. The master bedroom has a luxurious queen-size bed, with a view overlooking the and spa and mountain. There's also a large wall mounted flat screen tv and cable, and an ipod hook up for your music. The second bedroom contains another queen sized bed. The third bedroom has four pine bunk beds, that will delight the kids.

There's probably some guests who couldn't come up the mountain without a laptop, or have to do some real work to make the trip tax-deductible. High-speed Internet access is available throughout the cabin. There is ample parking on the huge circular driveway and two more parking spaces at the top of the driveway, so you can fit lots of cars, boats, trailers, RV's or whatever you need.

Summer has hiking, fishing and every other activity a forrest provides.

For mountain bikers, you can ride over to Bear Mountain and ride the chair lifts to the top of the mountain with your bike, and then bike down.

The kids will love Bear Mountain Chalet as much as the adults.

So what's keeping you from booking this bargain cabin? There's no excuse not to give your family or best friends a well-deserved ski 'n' snowboarding, or fishing getaway to Big Bear Lake with Bear Mountain Chalet -- all polished to perfection -- as your home base.

We're also pet friendly.

About Kevin Cobb

We're a couple that loves to be active. Ski, snowboard, hike, fish, travel, spend time with family...anything and everything. We both grew up in the mountains and love everything they have to offer.

We needed to get away one weekend, and realized that Big Bear was close to LA, so we went for a weekend to sit in the hot tub and read, hike, and just relax. We fell in love with it and were looking for a home the very next day.

Kevin Cobb purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Kevin Cobb chose Big Bear Lake

We chose this particular house because if it's privacy and quiet. It's set back from the street, and has wide open views of the mountain with a totally private back yard and nothing but forrest that you can see behind it. But it's a short walk to everything. One look and we fell in love. We spend as much time as we can there, and when the nephews come, they lose their minds.

What makes this cabin unique

It's romantic, it's quiet, it's private and the views are fantastic. You can sit in silence and do nothing, or go non stop with every activity known to man.

Winter is beautiful and has every snow activity, summer is warm, and offers an entirely new catalog of things to do.

So warm and cozy, so close.

  • 5 of 5

I love this cabin! We've stayed there with our 12 and 14 year old kids many times and each time they want to come back as soon as possible. It's really cozy and warm with a huge fire place and huge comfy leather couch. My wife and daughter love sitting around by the fire to read, or lounging in the hot tub, my son and I ski. It's so close to the lifts we can come and go as we please. And when we've stayed in the summer, we all hike together, canoe on the lake, or walk to the zoo. But our favorite thing - at night we turn out all the lights outside, sit in the hot tub, and you can count satellites because the sky is so clear. What a fantastic place.

More of a bachelor pad than a cozy family mountain cabin

  • 2 of 5
Verified Stay

The location is not within walking distance to the mountain, as advertised. The hot tub was more of a cesspool than any hot tub I have ever seen. I would not allow my three children to touch the water . The heat would not go above 72° and with 4 family members under the weather, they froze all night long. The chimney flue is possibly clogged, as there was significant smoke accumulation in the cabin. The pots and pans are so cheap and worn down, we have been exposed to enough aluminum to last us a lifetime. Make sure to bring your own dish soap, as I had to run to the grocery store first thing our first morning to buy some dish soap before I could wash the dishes. And because I have ATT, I had no cell service at all. In order to call and complain about the five bath towels, two hand towels & 2 wash clothes that were provided for five people for five nights, I had to drive to town. More linens and toilet paper were delivered the next day in generous amounts thankfully. We will not be returning to this home for the price.

Owner's Response: Please call us for anything you may be unhappy with. We are always here to service our guests, and are staffed with people on the mountain, and ready for calls or questions to help you with any issues you may have, and our mountain staff will come to the property and solve or fix anything. As for individual Items you listed; - Walking distance - As you'll see from the multiple reviews below, including one we received only days ago, the location to the mountain is clearly one of the highlights everyone who has stayed with us likes best. We're sorry a few hundred yards was too far for your young children to walk and not sure how to define the exact distance more clearly for you - but having timed it ourselves, it is only a 5 min walk. With the exception to the small parking lot at Bear Mountain itself, there are very few homes that are closer to the mountain than ours. - Thermostat - if you have trouble understanding the thermostat you are always able contacted us and we will happily help you with it, or send someone over to to do it for you. Having just been there, I know first hand the heat can be well above the high 80's. - Spa - The spa is cleaned religiously every week and between guests. That said, if for some reason the spa cleaning service was unable to get there prior to your arrival, please contact us and it will be cleaned immediately. - Chimney - The chimney was just cleaned several weeks ago so it is not clogged. You may have left the flu closed, or you may have built the fire too close to the front opening of the fireplace? Again, if you ever have an issue, please contact us and we would send someone over right away to help you. - Dish Soap - is stored under the sink for your use. If by chance it was out and missed by our cleaning staff, we apologize and sorry you had to go to the store. - Towels - It is customary that we provide one towel per person, but will always deliver more at the guests request. In this case, you did contact us at 5:52pm the evening you checked in, and we delivered many towels per your request the very next morning. We were not made aware you needed more than 5 towels that very night, and sorry those 5 towels were not enough to hold you over until the next morning. We take great pride in serving our valued guests and are on call by phone, email and have staff on the mountain to serve your every need to make your stay the best possible.

Amazing Location!

If you're in Big Bear to ski at Snow Summit, this is the perfect location. It's as close as the parking lot. Cabin is clean, furniture is nice. It was the week before Christmas so the parking lot was full, but we never had to worry because it was such a short walk. Our teenage kids could come and go as they wished. It was much nicer than the condos surrounding the slopes.

The only thing I would change is I wish there were instructions on how to use equipment. We ended up turning on the TV manually because we couldn't get the remote to work. The hot tub was too hot and we couldn't figure out how to turn it down. Overall, though, it's a great cabin.

Amazing location!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed over the 4th of July weekend and loved our trip! The cabin is perfectly located in the mountains within a short drive to everything including boating, hiking, and just laying on the shores of the lake. It was also within walking distance to the amazing Big Bear Zoo! Loved the jacuzzi with views of the stars at night and the wrap around porch made for great gatherings during the day and night!! Just perfect...

Best place for the money!!!

  • 5 of 5

I agree with the last review. My husband and I have rented 8 different homes in Big Bear and this one is by far our favorite for the price!!!

It says it sleeps 5 (I guess some city code that makes them say that), but it's got 3 bedrooms and you can really sleep 8!

- The outdoor hot tub rocks.

- This house is set back from the neighbors and against the hill, so you have a nice view of the woods and NOT a bunch of houses backed right up to you.

- It's got a huge TV for movies and sports.

- A giant stone fire place.

- Big decks in the front and back.

- Right next to Bear Mountain so perfect for mountain biking. And Summit is a short ride so you can ride right to the bike park.

- We could walk to the zoo with our kids!

- If your a skier, I think you could ski back to the house it's so close?

- So cozy like a real cabin should be.

Like I said, we've rented a bunch of places up here and this is the first one we really loved and so much better than the others in this price range. We loved it and we can't wait to go back!!!

Owner's Response: Your review really hit home. After renting a house ourselves one year, my wife and I fell in love with Big Bear and wanted a place of our own. We rented many places to see what we liked or not about each area and each house and it was with that experience that we knew exactly what we wanted when we finally found our own. Then when we decided to share it, we made sure to put everything into it that we enjoyed most. We're so glad you liked it and can't wait to have you back. Thank you so much for your review.

Love it!!!

Love this place. So charming. It's a really woodsy cabin feel.

We've rented 6 or so other places here and none are anywhere near as nice, or have as many features.

Amazing place for the price!!
