Lovely Spot

  • 3 of 5

First and foremost - the manager, Rifka, was responsive, helpful, and kind - she made us feel welcomed - and that goes a long way.

I give it a 3 star for the following reasons: the place was a little grimy - primarily the window blinds, top of shelves, lights, and the ceiling fan (which was coated in a greasy dust). I am a neat-nick, and I felt compelled to clean the fan and shelves as best I could (I know, probably my problem...). Bathroom - clean and spacious, except the window blinds... The bed sheets were a little old, along with the covering on the futon - but the bed was comfortable. The towels were also a little old. It would have been nice to have a few dish towels and cloth as we needed to hand wash the dishes. Finally, not enough dishes. 3 coffee mugs, 1 wine glass, 2 beer stein type glasses and 2 water glasses. 4 plates. You get the idea. The fridge is a college dorm style mini-fridge. I don't remember if that was listed in the property info or not - frankly, the only reason that counts is because there are no stores nearby, and we came equipped to stay a week. The deck had 4 plastic chairs and an old stained table. All the other cottages had nice metal tables, chairs, and an umbrella! The deck is a little rickety but a very nice place to sit otherwise. Finally, the air conditioning unit is not equipped to handle the hot weather. It was unseasonably hot while we were there, and because the cottage has no cross ventilation, it was impossible to cool the room even after the outside air was cool. My last complaint was the outdoor lighting. Cottage 1 has porch lights and a garage light that shone directly into this cottage at night. So, we had to close our blinds...which again, cut us off from the cool night air. Low impact lighting or a motion detection system would have been nice. I am not sure of pricing in the area for an efficiency - but at $168/night (with taxes, etc), I expected better.

In it's favor, the grounds are beautiful, the "lake" area is also nice. It is quiet. The stars at night are awesome - and would have been even better except for the outdoor lighting. Again, Rifka was a great host - the cottage came complete with a guide book to the parks - which we used. The amenities - like salt, pepper, oil, coffee beans and grinder, coffee filters, and dish soap, etc: were also very nice. There is a laundry area at the main office and that too is very nice.

It is a LONG 35 minutes from the park!

Peace and quiet

  • 4 of 5

A lovely and private getaway. Rifka is a gracious host who was welcoming and helpful but otherwise left us to ourselves. Bring groceries along as the kitchenette has the basics you would need to prepare simple meals. A wood burning stove, simple furnishings, a comfortable bed, deck, and a view of the lake below all contributed to our cozy and relaxing winter stay.

It is a nice, well stocked studio, quiet and had everything we needed. We were there the end of July

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I recently spent 3 nights at Sequoia Resort "Artists Studio" and feel it was everything we had hoped for. It was clean, well stocked kitchen with everything you would ever need. Convenient location to both Sequoia and King Canyon Natl. Parks. Restaurants weren't quite as close as we would have liked so two evenings, while at the natl. parks, we had dinner at the lodges before we returned to the studio for the night. It has a nice deck with a gas grill which we used. With its remote location the "dark night skies" made for great star gazing which we did every night. It was a good experience.

enjoyed our stay!

  • 5 of 5

Location can't be beat. We were able to enjoy Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Park with a day trip from here. The resort provided a very helpful binder and book about the local hikes and scenic car routes. I'd recommend you review that during your stay-we learned a few new hikes to come back and explore when the snow melts thanks to those resources.

The studio is beautifully done on the inside. It's not cluttered, it was very clean, and spacious for a studio rental. Can't thank you enough for accepting dogs. There's a sweet dog named Abby as well as a whole bunch of cats & kittens that snuggle around the studio. Our dog loved it here, perhaps even more than we did.

The kitchen was stocked with more than I was expecting. There's a deck with a view outside the sliding back door with a large grass field below for the dogs. The temperature control is fantastic and the place was toasty!

Only downside is the state drought-its effects tragically show on the lake on the property. Let's hope for a lot of rain and snow in 2016.

Thank you, Rifka! You were responsive and helpful. Would certainly stay again.

Secluded, Romantic Getaway Close to Kings Canyon

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at this property for two nights at the end of our honeymoon tour of the desert and High Sierras. The property is located in the fairly remote town of Badger, about 12 miles from the entrance to Kings Canyon. We used this cabin as a basecamp to explore Kings Canyon, Sequoia National Forest and Sequoia National Parks.

When we arrived, we were greeted by Torsten, the property manager, who had just finished preparing the studio for our stay. He brought candles (knowing it was our honeymoon) and stocked the cabin with board games.

The property is large and provides ample opportunity to roam and enjoy the lake, flora, trees and animals. Early November provided for warm days and cold nights and Torsten ensured we had adequate firewood to heat the cabin.

The wood burning stove kept the cabin warm and we found the property extremely clean and well furnished. There is no cell phone reception except for Verizon subscribers, so I highly recommend paying for the optional telephone and data service, although we didn't really need it. The european kitchen is basic, but very functional and we prepared meals each night.

The drive to the property is breathtaking and not for the faint of heart, as are most roadways in and around the parks. Be sure to check out the Pinehurst Lodge (which does have a small store) for an authentic local experience. It's just a short drive up the road.

We were very well prepared for our stay and brought all necessary provisions and managed our fuel. If you've never been to this part of California before, know that the parks are BIG, the roads are exposed, and distances between towns can be far. Rent our buy tire chains (especially in fall/winter), top-off your fuel tanks, and take your time. Will be a rewarding trip!

Our only regret was that we could not stay longer. Very quiet, romantic and charming. We are looking forward to coming back!
