About Bob and Cheryl Picha

We bought our Green Lake duplex in 1993. We've enjoyed many years of fun with our children. Now that they're on their own we would love other families to experience the same fun times.

Bob and Cheryl Picha purchased this cottage in 1993

Why Bob and Cheryl Picha chose Green Lake

Enjoy the peace and beauty of the pond while being just across the street from beautiful Green Lake. Lots of room outside for the kids to roam. Easy walk to the beach. Public launch nearby, plenty of room to keep your boat on the property.

What makes this cottage unique

Beautiful serene view of well kept pond - our neighbors own it and keep it circulated so it doesn't get stagnant. Big Green lake is across the street and public beach is short walk. Public launch is minutes away. Enjoy Princeton, Green Lake and other nearby towns for antiques and Saturday flea market may-oct. While we have cable tv here, the cottage is a great place to get away from everything and enjoy peace and quiet. Beautiful in the fall and spring and winter too!

Cottage on the Pond

  • 2 of 5

The owners were very accommodating to our requests and were prompt to responding via Homeaway.

When reviewing the overall cottage, we were pleased but not pleased with the cottage. The cottage itself was not marked, there was no parking (so we parked in the driveway (which feeds to other homes as well) and the overall outside appearance of the property looked run down. The cottage is "duplex" of sorts, where other people live on the second half. I tried getting into their place first, because the location wasn't marked. Oops!

When we entered the cottage the overwhelming smell of mold instantly alarmed us. We opened all the windows (in the winter) to air the place out. There was a central fan running, but from a location that had visible mold on the exposed pink insulation. Needless to say, we turned that off right away. There was visible mold, most likely due to prolonged water damage, on the ceiling. To us, this is a deal breaker on ever returning. After airing the cottage out and starting to cook, the mold smell went away, although the fact of the matter remains, the mold is there and should be addressed for the health safety of guests. On of our friends was 7 months pregnant with twins and you could tell she was uncomfortable being there.

We found the necessary cooking tools suitable and they have everything you need to make meals or bake. There were plenty of dishes, although one of the cabinet shelfs is sagging heavily and will most likely break soon due to too much weight. The fridge was very clean and accommodated all our food needs. The oven/stove is an awesome, functioning antique! Great piece :-) We loved the large windows that over looked the pond, it was perfect for sunsets and sun rises. The cottage was filled with sun all day. We didn't mind the cozy feel of the dinning room table pretty much in the living room, its a cottage right? There was a TV for those who like to watch while on vacation, playing cards (which we used a lot) and a large book selection in one of the rooms.

The location itself isn't within beaches, that we could see at least. The water is across the street, so if you want to stand along the water, you have to look for a public landing.

We felt overall the location was overpriced and the cleaning fee was outrageous for the condition of the cottage. We could have our entire home cleaned for less and we live in the city. All that said we made the most of our time and had fun with our friends!

We enjoyed the cottage. Very beautiful lake right across the street. It was a good central location for driving to various destinations. The place is cozy, and served as home for three nights. The neighborhood is very friendly. Would stay again.

cottage on the pond, Janie and Bob

  • 3 of 5

The cottage on the pond is very rustic to say the least. We found dishes in the sink, a load of laundry in the washer.

The kitchen is poorly equipped, old pots and pans and the cabinet were dirty. The fridge was clean, as well as the bathroom. Plenty of clean towels. The upper bunk bed was missing top sheet. The couch in the living room is dirty and could use some cleaning. Overall this cottage need some loving care. The Green Lake is beautiful and we enjoyed the beach in lawsonia.

Charming Cottage in a Beautiful Spot

We had a wonderful time staying at Cottage On The Pond. The setting was beautiful, the cottage was clean and so comfortable. We loved the big windows in the living room and kitchen area and the big windows on the enclosed porch. Besides the pond, we also loved having the lake so close by. The cottage was so nice and quiet, and peaceful and relaxing. Just what we had hoped for!

Quiet and comfortable

The cottage had everything we needed. We were familiar with the area, as we used to live nearby, so finding things to do was no problem. The kitchen was surprisingly well-equipped, with a stand mixer, blender, crock pot, sharp knives, etc. The range is similar to the one we had in the 1960s, but it worked, so I thought it was quaint. Access to the sandy beach nearby was easy. The lake was beautiful. We found plenty of beach towels and floaties, etc. in the bin on the porch. We enjoyed putting together the jigsaw puzzles we found in a file cabinet in the bedroom. Cable TV made it feel like home. Friendly neighborhood, lots of folks walking their dogs. Reilly's Pub down the road a short ways. We would definitely stay here again.

Cons - the pond is just for scenery; no fishing. We ran out of dish soap, paper towels (just one roll provided), and there was no charcoal for the grill. The only ceiling fans are on the porch - and the a/c was just a window unit. But these are not big problems (we didn't even need the a/c, really). Just mentioning them to offer a balanced review.

Perfect location for lake access to Green Lake and all other things within 60 miles. Local boat rentals ( Big Power Sports. In town. Just tell them Liz and George from NJ recommended. Call Lee @ 920-294-3000 498 Lake St Green Lake) Waupaca ChainOLakes, Ripon, Dells, Oshkosh EAA museum, Etc.... Perfectly maintained. Late at night, listen for the frogs on the pond. And look up at the stars. This is the best place we ever rented on Big Green lake. We will be back. All the information about the cottage on Home Away is accurate and easy to understand and comply with. We have never had a better stay. We will be back! And the price is right!

The Area in general? Just explore. The Dells are pricey. But everywhere else, the smiles are free. Everything else will cost very little money. Perfect vacation.

Public beach is to the right of the driveway (past the big willow tree) 1 block (has a large sandy driveway to the beach (intersection of Lakeshore Dr. and Lakeview) - not the grassy access - that is private Beechwood association and not directly across from us that is Page's association). Very short walk.
