Welcome to the newly remodeled Paia Surf House, STPH2012/0001, HI Tax ID# GE/TA-078-205-7472-01, which easily accommodates parties of 5-9 (unused parts of the house can be closed off, saving $$$) – or splurge and make it all just a honeymoon palace for two. When you're at Paia Surf, you can stash the car keys for days on end if you want – and walk everywhere! How cool is that? (Driving is SO overrated.) Shops/restaurants/cafes/galleries and, yes, the beach, are all out the front door, no further than a couple blocks. And Paia is a gem of a coastal village, right beside the mighty blue Pacific's open waters. You’re guaranteed to feel the ocean’s power, one way or another.
Whether you're part of a multi-generational family gathering, or an intimate romantic escapade, this luxury house is all yours while you're there. And the house works great in different ways. Designed to be enjoyed communally, it also has plenty of little hideaway features that allow for privacy; places to get away from it all – the LANAI, for one, and some outdoor/backyard grotto space. Very versatile, with an extreme 'Oh WOW!’ factor the moment you step inside.
Paia Surf has five bedrooms and four full bathrooms - all newly remodeled. Its all double-walled construction, with NEW insulation - windows - doors - stone tile floors - plumbing - electrical. The theme throughout? Driftwood. Sea glass. Sand. Every room has it's own quiet solar electric AC unit. There are 4 parking stalls on the property. Paia Surf can be rented as a whole, or with portions closed off, making it potentially a one-two-three-four- or five-bedroom rental. THE RATE ESTIMATE ON THIS SITE STARTS WITH THE UPPER LEVEL 3 BEDROOMS, 2 BATH. THIS IS A 5 BEDROOM, 4 BATH HOME AND YOU CAN RENT LESS BEDROOMS FOR A SMALLER RATE so please contact the owner about price variation for more bedrooms. Maui County regulation allows two guests per bedroom and only one rental group, on the same rental agreement, staying at the home at any one period of time. With this in mind, parts of Paia Surf can easily be locked off for smaller rental groups, that way guests are not charged for all of the existing bedrooms. For vacation homes in Maui these regulations ensure that guests have the ultimate private experience and Paia Surf really does feel like your home away from home!
The second story has a small ocean view, gourmet kitchen and large lanai complete with comfortable outdoor furnishings. The ground level potentially has 2 bedrooms each with their own full bathroom; one with king bed and a kitchenette (wet bar) and outdoor BBQ with cooking element, the other bedroom has a queen bed, fridge and microwave. The lower bedrooms each have their own private lanais and can either be connected or separated. The house feels light and bright, insulated and quiet, even though it is located in the heart of Paia. The house is just off the road thru town, three houses from the shore. Beach access is around the block and about a five-minute walk. Check in is at 3pm. Check out at 10am. There is a seven-night minimum stay.
Folks who come to Paia love “the coolest little town in Maui” – one of the island's most charming hideaways. Escaping the tourist sprawl of steel and glass rising high, Paia is a nod to the remnants of Hawaii’s past, when it was a sugar cane plantation village. You can almost imagine the company store on Main Street. And what better way to experience its timeless, laid back essence than residing in this charming, almost-at-the-beach/in-the-heart-of-the-village house. You're not just a visitor, you live there, mixing with the locals! Turn one way outside your door, and you're strolling by some of the island's best restaurants, earthy little cafes, places to get a holistic massage or tribal tattoo, or a tasty cocktail while enjoying live music, historical sites, surf shops ... all just a stroll out the door. Turn the other way and it's a short walk to the beach and all its glories of sun/sea/sand. Never been to Shangri La? Hey - you live in Paia - and that’s even better.

PS ~ PAIA SURF HOUSE RULES (Maui County Regulation)
Quiet Hours: from 9:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., during which time the noise from the short-term rental home shall not unreasonably disturb adjacent neighbors. Sound that is audible beyond the property boundaries during non-quiet hours shall not be more excessive than would be otherwise associated with a residential area. Please respect ourneighbors. U.S. Mainland and global visitors often arrive from different time zones so if awakened early be conscious of the time. Be aware that loud conversation and slamming car doors is a disturbance and loud music is never allowed. Amplified sound that is audible beyond the property boundaries of the short-term rental home is prohibited. Our neighbors specifically asked for a 9:30pm curfew from noise on outdoor lanais.
Parking: Vehicles shall be parked in the designated onsite parking area and shall not be parked on the street. If 1 bedroom is rented then 1 parking space is available, if 3 bedrooms are rented then 2 spaces are provided, if 4-5 bedrooms are rented then 3 parking spaces are provided. There will always be 1-2 spaces reserved for the owners use. No parties or group gatherings other than registered guests shall occur.
Occupancy: The entire dwelling is rented to only one group at a time. The maximum occupancy of the dwelling approved for short-term rental use, per section 19.65.030.K., MCC, shall be no greater that two times the number of bedrooms (5 bedrooms have been approved for Paia Surf vacation home). We ask that the maximum occupancy of Paia Surf to be 9 since we have one full sized bed, in addition to, 2 kings and 2 queen beds but the home is approved for 10 guests.
Chris & I are a small mom and pop operation that takes great pride in the service we provide for visitors from around the world, as well as, to our community, by stimulating the economy and providing jobs and promoting local businesses. Our children were raised here and because of the beauty of Maui, have been able to immerse themselves in nature and create the greatest memories together. There is no value that can be placed on the moments spent on this island because quality of life has no price. We go above and beyond ourselves to make sure that a guest's visit is the very best. The location is the best. You're in the little Paia town, but scarcely more than a stone's toss away from the water. And if you want upcountry adventure, the road leads up the side of the volcano, or take the road to Hana for the ultimate day trip exploration.
What is unique about the Paia Surf is that it is located in the town, stones throw away from the beach, great dining, shops, grocery and entertainment. IF you reserve Paia Surf your group is always the only group in the house. That makes it like your home away from home. Reservations can be made for 3,4 or 5 bedrooms with the other sections of the house locked off and not charged to the guest. Because the house is newly remodeled it has AC in every room and insulated walls making it a quiet place even though it's in the heart of a busy town. This home is especially unique because it is the perfect place to have a quality family get together for young and old alike. The young have Paia town entertainment a few steps away! No more stranded teens, always in a bad mood, when their outlet is just outside the door.
My husband, 2 year-old son and I went to Maui for 10 days to spend our anniversary -- and were joined part of the trip by a couple of friends. We initially booked the upper 3 bedrooms (there are an additional 2 separate bedrooms on the lower floor), but after the 3 of us spent the night, it became clear we'd need more space for the additional couple.
The upper part of the house would be perfect for a family with a couple of kids (2-4), or extra family members who are really close.
The house is in Paia -- an excellent location. The little town is about 10 minutes from the airport, 15 minutes from Haiku (where some of the biking tours down the volcano start -- and I totally recommend), and about 45 minutes from Lahaina.
We arrived and the place was equipped with most of the things we needed: A high chair and a booster seat, a stroller, a potty, a pack 'n play (which was too small for our 2 year-old, but would be great for a younger child) and loads of beach toys. For the rest of us: Beach towels, every essential kitchen gadget and some amazing fruits and snacks.
The place was really clean and nicely decorated. The outdoor patio was fantastic.The A/C units worked really well. The outdoor showers and foot baths were really convenient.
The house is literally in the heart of Paia -- right behind a gift shop and gas station near Hana Highway and Baldwin Ave. -- which made it a little loud some evenings. But more often than not, we were happy to be in the middle of everything and have Paia Fish Market and Ono Gelato literally a minute walk away. Manna grocery store was about a 4 minute walk and had everything we needed.
Annie and Chris were exceedingly helpful. They responded to every email quickly and helpfully (Our son got sick our first day and they recommended a doctor on the island). Their recommendations on the island were great.
My only suggestion would be to have a mid-trip cleaning option.

The property is well kept and in great shape. The location is conveniently located as well.
My husband and I stayed at the Paia Surf in the 3 bedroom upstairs. The owners were a pleasure to deal with and the house really is as nice as the photos. It is very clean, well-equipped and very close to everything in Paia and beyond. Even though it is right in town, the house feels private and we couldn't hear the busy street close by. We look forward to returning again soon!
First off I have to say what everyone else says about this property- Annie and her husband were beyond helpful and nice. They checked in on us to make sure we were doing well. I read all the information that they sent prior in a packet and it was extraordinary the amount of helpful information. That includes information about the beaches such as high surf and restaurants in the area. It was on the level of a high end travel agent.
The property itself is in a GREAT location. You walk out your door and there is Paia Coffee which has an amazing breakfast. Then down the street is Honolulu Coffee and a wonderful organic grocery store. Honestly everything that you need is a block away including the beach. I was with my large family that included several very young children and the place was perfect for our needs. Enough space so that we could cook and have family dinners every night and we loved being able to walk to the beach close by and then when the kids were tired to walk home. My family is very particular and they were very impressed and happy with the rental. It had enough space for all of us, was clean and well organized. I would definitely recommend this place for large families traveling together.
Centrally located in the charming village of Paia, it's the perfect starting point from which to explore Maui.
Annie and Chris have created a space that Is comfortable and inviting. Everything we needed to enjoy a week of hiking and swimming was available to us. Beds are super comfy and the kitchen is Well stocked to cook an amazing meal if you want a night off from dining out. Located right in the middle of town you literally walk out the door to find coffee food and wonderful little boutiques. We even spotted Owen Wilson in one of the organic grocery stores as he has made his home in Paia. Love this community and hope to be back soon to visit again.
Paia is a local, 'small town' kind of place, friendly to visitors from far away places. The vibe is laid back in the most island sense of the word. Local aloha and small town, rather than gaudy, upscale or resorty. Whether your thing is seal watching at the beach, experiencing the hippie back-to-nature lifestyle, surfing the Five-O break, or prowling around the streets meandering among the tantalizing restaurants, shops and galleries, Paia always pleases. And the constant tradewinds makes this north shore location slightly cooler than the more touristy west and south sides. It is in the heart of Maui's wild coast. A short stroll gets you to the beach. From there you can walk for miles! Do not be offended if a local asks if you are a 'haole'. It's not a derogatory term. It simply means foreigner. Nearby are beautiful beaches and legendary water sports natural arenas ... like Jaws, where giant waves sometimes come rolling in ... and Hookipa, where pro surfers, windsurfers and kiteboarders perform miraculous feats. Both spots are great for spectators.
Activities? Pretty much anything you can think of. How about for starters ... surfing, windsurfing, kiteboarding, golf, tennis, stand up paddling, canoe paddling, beachcombing, swimming, bodyboarding, road biking, mountain biking, rock jumping, hiking, shopping, live music, gallery browsing, and historical churches.

Cancelation of a reservation must occur 90 days prior to arrival for a full refund. The house can be rented in a variety of ways, for example: the upper level 3 bedroom, 2 bath rents for $485/night. The whole house 5 beds 4 baths $685/night, 4 bedrooms 3 baths $585/night, one bedroom is $200-$225/night (only considered within a few weeks of a gap in the schedule). There is cleaning fee of $175 and then tax of 13.42%. PLEASE CONTACT THE OWNER FOR REDUCTION OR INCREASE IN RATES DEPENDING ON NUMBER OF BEDROOMS RESERVED. Seasonal rates can increase during Holidays!! Whole House at Christmas is 950/night with a 10 night minimum.
