About Cory and Julie Vincent

My wife and I live in Guelph Ontario. I am a geologist at the University of Guelph, my wife is a practitioner in Biontology. Our property managers are long time residents of Griffith. Cory is a graduate of Forestry, previously with Hydro One, and currently working at Canada Nuclear Laboratories.. His wife Julie is a graduate of Travel and Tourism and Esthetiques, currently working from her home and is a talented jewelry artist.

Cory and Julie Vincent purchased this cottage in 2009

Why Cory and Julie Vincent chose Ontario

This property is very private and nestled on beautiful & clean Jeffers Lake. It is surrounded by lush forest. As well as the lake there are 2 ponds that support so much wild life. The cottage boasts that it is completely off the grid. We are the second owners to this unique cottage of cordwood construction. The nearby village of Griffith is home to so many talented artists. The beautiful Madawaska River flows through, all the way to the Ottawa River and houses several hydro dams.. It's lower portions, Centennial Lake and Black Donald is one of the largest, most underdeveloped lakes in Eastern Ontario with approximately 250 miles of shoreline and provides excellent fishing and recreation. There is over 40km of boating. Public boat launch only approximately 12 minutes from the cottage on Matawatchan Rd.

What makes this cottage unique

This property captivated us from the first time we were visiting with the original owner who was the designer and builder. We shared the same dream of being away from the crazy pace of life, and being so close with nature. It's just quiet and peaceful. To sit on the dock with a book and just breath and notice how in tune you become with singing of the birds, the croaking of frogs, the splash of a fish grabbing is supper from the surface of the water....... its just priceless. We could never spend enough time here, so we decided to rent, we knew others needed to see this piece of paradise.

Great Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This place is great, the property is extremely clean and well-maintained. Modern plumbing, a kitchen with all the gadgets you'd need and a beautiful location. The canoe is nice to do laps around the lake in. The inside is just as nice as the pictures. Would highly recommend, very modern interior with a beautiful lake.

Relaxing, quiet, very private location a unique and overall great experience.

Everything was provided as described, lots of space for a family, with plenty of things to do. The unit was clean, and everything worked, flashlights were provided, although they weren't really needed much unless you went outside at night. Kids enjoyed swimming and boating around the lake, and fish were biting. I can easily recommend this place to families with kids older than 8, if they are younger they may have difficulty swimming in the deep water, and unless they are meticulously clean the property manager may complain, this also goes for pets. Also there is an issue with the garbage you will have at the end of the week, you need to be prepared to take it in the car with you when you leave, because the dump isn't open until 2 hours after check out, or you will be charged a fee for garbage removal at the end of your stay. These were my only complaints though, overall the stay was relaxing and a lot of fun, this was a gem of a cottage and truly enjoyable.

Owner's Response: Dear Sir, I am sorry that you had a couple of issues the week you were with us. I truly had not a single issue with the children, I have 3 children of my own and I am honestly not sure what you might be referring to. On my initial visit with you and your grandchildren I witnessed the dog on the beds and witnessed it eating off the table while sitting on the dining room chair, and this was not a small dog. I only requested that you keep them off of the beds, the duvet covers were all new, you did admit to me that it would be difficult to make them mind. I didn't mean for that to make you feel uncomfortable, I thought it was a fair request. As for the garbage, there was a weeks worth left behind, and you did stay from the 20-27th, the dump was open on the 21st and the 24th during your stay, and I am sorry that you weren't able to get there on those days, it would have limited how much you would have had to take home with you. With proper sorting most of the renters that stay the full week, find that there is not much left on check out day, especially with taking advantage of the days that it is open. But again, I apologize for the inconvenience that it caused you. It is very busy to be on vacation with little ones for sure, I have done it many times. The dog hair that was everywhere and it was very challenging to clean up, bedding had to be washed 3 times before it was clean enough to return to the cottage, and we never charged you a pet fee. Also you were late with checking out, I know the cleaning staff waited outside till you were packed, which caused staff to still be there when the next guests arrived. I have enjoyed having guests come with their pets, cats and dogs have been there, but regretfully we no longer permits pets. I guess looking back,, I only wish that I could have stressed to you about the hours of operation of the local dump which is only 8 minutes from the cottage, again we are sorry for that inconvenience, and we are glad that you had fun and had some time to relax with your family.

Beautiful, well-maintained location

  • 5 of 5

Had a fabulous week. Julie made sure we were well looked after. Spacious cottage, very well maintained, everything you could need. Beautiful location. Would highly recommend to anyone. The only downside for me was that the swimming isn't ideal, but there is a dock you can swim or boat out to that makes it a bit better. Otherwise, near perfect!

Amazing Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We both booked and stayed at this property in mid July. The entire experience exceeded my expectations. Before we even booked, Cory and Julie were extremely informative and friendly. They answered all of our questions in a timely and thorough manner. The booking process was very easy and we received the property information and directions pretty rapidly. The directions were well written which was helpful since we are from the United States and could not use the GPS on our phones. When we arrived at the cabin, it was very neat and clean. Julie and Cory stopped in to make sure we had settled in and to provide us with information since we couldn't use our phones. They also left a book with information about the property and local area. It had information on everything from recycling, to wood burner usage, restaurants, and more. The cabin included everything our family needed for vacation with the exception of personal items and food. We were so busy with the provided kayak, canoe, and row boat that we didn't even miss our phones. My husband spent the entire stay fishing. He caught trout and small mouth bass. My father-in-law spent his time fishing off of the large dock. My kids and I spent our time swimming in the crystal clear lake (I don't usually swim in lakes) and on the kayak and canoe. When we weren't on the lake, we played in the horseshoe pit and played lawn darts. At night, we made a fire and roasted marshmellows. This cabin was pretty inclusive with all the provided amenities. We really didn't feel the need to leave the property but there are a few places to get food about 8 miles away in Griffith if the need arises. Overall, this was one of the best vacations that we have ever taken and we travel frequently. We don't have a single negative thing to say about this trip. It truely was a private paradise. We hope to visit again in the near future.

Lovely cottage, quiet lake

  • 5 of 5

We had a great weekend. The cottage was very well equipped and it had a very private and small lake.

We had some issues finding the garbage site but that's minor.

Julies also super sweet!
