Overview

About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms, 5.5 Baths (Sleeps 12)

This home will offer you a very rare, best of both worlds Folly beach experience, situated between the marsh and the ocean. The house has four decks, front and back, both levels. The back decks have views of the marshes, folly river, the folly lighthouse and Charleston, but most memorable of all are the sultry sunsets and sometimes… after dark the fireworks in Charleston. There is a tidal canal in back with a crabbing dock – a dolphin has been seen cruising up and down this very canal! The front porches have views of the ocean and on the second floor are open to the night sky and the incredible number of stars. Access to the beach is across the street. This home has a well stocked kitchen including an icemaker, lots of outdoor living spaces and a pool table. This is a weekly rental (Sat/Sat Only).

** For 2017 we have renovated 2 bathrooms and added 2 new bathrooms. Four of the bedrooms now have an ensuite bathroom except for the bunk room which has use of the hall bathroom with a shower/tub combination.

About Susan

The picture posted is our family photo of all the 'cousins' from our get together last year. As the kids were growing up we spent every summer on the beach along the southern seaboard - making lots of memories, as my mother-in-law so aptly expresses it. We hope that you will have a wonderful experience in our home and this will become a cherished memory for your family too.

Susan purchased this house in 2012

Why Susan chose Charleston Area

This all started with our love of Charleston, a historic and scenic cosmopolitan city. We have been travelling there for over 15 years, exploring, eating, shopping and just hanging out. And then there's Folly, with it's eclectic group of surfers, hippies, BMWs, mansions and shacks. Everyone is super friendly and there is always an unusual experience to be had. While the house is the best of beach and marsh the location is the best of city and beach - juxtaposition - right?

What makes this house unique

You will be lost in the views of the marshes, they simply wash over you and make you forget all your worries and put you squarely in the present, in this moment - where there is no better place to be. Pure relaxation.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Dear Susan,

Yes we thoroughly enjoyed your home. I have already recommended it to a friend that is planning a trip this summer. The accommodations are very clean and decorated lovely. I felt like it was just as I would decorate which made it feel like home. We had 11 of us and everyone enjoyed a comfortable bed. The kitchen is so well equipped. Since it was so many of us and I love to cook, we cooked every night but one. I was never in need for a kitchen tool at every meal. We greatly enjoyed the pool table. We brought Kayaks and bikes. It was great to kayak right from the dock at high tide and to bike to the end of the island and see the light house at Morris Island.

We did have two slight issues. The fire alarm battery went bad at 4 am one night and I struggled to get the beeping to stop, however that could have happened at home too. I was glad to know the alarms were operational. We also had a issue with the disposal not working, but that was resolved quickly and with great service and follow up and never gave us another problem.

Thanks for opening your beautiful, comfortable home to us. We had many great moments and made some great memories.

wonderful house beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

It's a great house with lots of room and nicely decorated. The kitchen has everything one needs to cook. The best thing is the views -- the front of the house allows for views of the ocean and listening to the waves, the back of the house allows for views of the sea of grass and beautiful sunsets. The location is also great -- the beach is never crowded.

Excellent home!

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed in this home twice before and always are extremely pleased. The recent renovations are incredible! The addition of more bathrooms made a great home even better! Also, we loved the new harvest table in the dining room. It was an amazing week!

Enjoyed our stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at Folly this year. We hadnt been there before and definitely plan to try to go back again! We had quite an inconvenience with the dryer going out on Monday, but we know things like that can happen. We weren't able to get more towels from the realty company so went to the laundromat. Again, we did enjoy our trip and plan to go back. Thanks again and we enjoyed our stay!

Owner's Response: Hi Rebecca- sorry to hear about the dryer and your trip to the laundromat. The dryer is new but they had to order a part so it took longer than expected. Glad you enjoyed your time on Folly.

Great Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. The house had everything we needed to prepare meals, have fun in the house in the evening, and enjoy the beach during the day. The four large decks were great for relaxing after a long day at the beach. The location of the house also allowed for quiet relaxation away from the crowds downtown. Our only issue with the house was the electricity, although this could have been an issue with the power to the island. The house lacked consistent power and had issues powering the small air fryer we brought with us. All things considered, we would definitely return to stay here again.

Owner's Response: We are glad you enjoyed your stay. We will need to investigate the power issue you mention as we have not experienced any power fluctuations on Folly in the past. Thank you for letting us know.

Beautiful, comfortable home!

  • 4 of 5

Our group really enjoyed our stay at Folly. The house was excellent. It was comfortable and spacious. Sunsets from the back porches were a favorite each night. We enjoyed spending evenings on the two screened in porches, as well as around the large dining table. The pool table and ice maker were excellent perks. The kids enjoyed the basketball hoop. The linens were very nice, seemed new. We had no complaints about the house. The one disappointing feature, which was a huge deciding factor on choosing the house for us, was beach access. It was advertised as "beach access across the street," which makes it sound like it is directly across from the house, when in fact the beach access was 10 houses in either direction. Not a bad walk, but disappointing when your expectations are different. Otherwise a perfect experience, and we would definitely choose it again. Thank you for sharing your home!

Owner's Response: Yes, we have had an empty lot in front of our house since we purchased it for which many people have used it as a cut through to access the beach. We learned that this lot was recently put up for sale along with a surrounding fence. The closest public beach access walkway is to the left as you are leaving the house and is 6 houses down on the right.
