La Perla del Norte
This city home features beautifully maintained colonial elements of the original 'Pulperia' store whose name it has kept. Excellent quiet location in the trendy San Francisco Convent area just a few blocks from Granada's best restaurants.
The front sala is furnished with traditional Granadino rocking chairs to relax and visit with friends and neighbors. The open courtyard living area features a saltwater pool, dining and lounging areas with an open kitchen. Gardens are located in the front and rear courtyards.
Upstairs master bedroom has its own bath. Enjoy sunset views from the upstairs balcony looking out over Granada's roof tops. The two downstairs bedrooms share a full bath with extra half bath close by. Each bedroom has a queen size bed and there is an extra twin bed downstairs. All bedrooms have screens and air conditioning.
The standard nightly rate is $165. September rates are $148 per night. High season rates are higher. (Please note that VRBO may display lower "average" rates that factor weekly discounts.)
FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN: The pool is NOT baby-safe. If you have tiny children, this house may not be suitable. In all cases, please be watchful and cautious with young ones in the pool!
We are a Seattle-based family with teenagers who divides our time between Nicaragua and the US. La Perla is more than a vacation home for us; we just spent a year living here.
The Owner purchased this house in 2007
We visited Granada on vacation and loved the slow pace, friendly neighbors, colonial architecture and absence of traffic.
We love hanging out in the house! The rooms are comfortable and well ventilated. The pool is refreshing and we try never to miss cocktails on the balcony looking out at the cathedral.
My husband and I would stay here again!
We recently stayed at Perla del Norte for the second time. This time we stayed 2 weeks just to relax. It's a great place to relax and be close to the center of town. The salt water pool is a wonderful way to cool off from the Nicaraguan heat. The house also has two hammocks which are very nice. For an extended stay, the kitchen was a great asset as we ate many meals in our home away from home. We also loved the proximity to restaurants such as the Garden Cafe, Kathy's Waffles, Cafe del Arte, Telepizza and the Chinese restaurant down the street.
Our family of three (including our 13-year old daughter) plus another couple spent a week here between Christmas and New Year's. The apartment was everything we could have asked for, a truly beautiful and peaceful oasis right in the heart of "downtown" Granada. Tamara was incredibly responsive to all communications from the moment we first inquired about the property right up until our visit. The property truly is beautiful, and the pool came in handy because temperatures were running above normal when we visited (heat index in the high 90s for our first few days). Everything about the property is simple, elegant, spacious, and beautifully laid out and decorated. The decor is a little on the spare side, but we loved that; the tile floors, wood furniture, and gorgeous flowers and plants made this a truly special place. The amenities and services were all as described. The kitchen was fully functional and practical, even if not luxurious; the bathrooms were clean, spacious, and had plenty of hot water. If we come back to Granada, it will definitely be to La Perla!
Random notes: the air conditioner in the larger of the two downstairs bedrooms had a little bit of trouble keeping up with the extreme heat, but it was still plenty comfortable. We had excellent food in Granada, particularly at Bocadillo. El Zaguan, the highest rated of the Granada restaurants was also excellent, Bocadillo was more innovative. The owner of Bocadillo also runs Nectar, on the main strip, which was one of our go-to places, though not quite as special as Bocadillo. The Garden Cafe was another dependable stand-by. And definitely make the 25-minute run (by car) over to the Monkey Hut resort on stunning Laguna Apoyo. $5 per person gets you into the resort for the day. There's a beach, free kayaks, a lovely bar overlooking the lake, and general peace and beauty.
There aren't enough positive things I could say about our stay. Arrival was easy and the owners were very communicative throughout the booking and arrival process. The house is stunning, spacious, and feels very luxurious. You can tell how much effort was spent on the details of the property; it is gorgeous. The location is perfect, 2 blocks from La Calzada where you can find many delicious restaurants, and a short walk from Parque Central and the lake. The kitchen has all the necessary equipment and it was fun to cook a few meals. The pool is so refreshing after a walk around town and the open air allows for a beautiful view of the stars. On my next trip to Granada, I will absolutely stay here again. Thanks for everything!
Many reasons we were really happy with La Perla:
1. Excellent location--easy walking distance to all the key spots in Granada, but on a quiet street.
2. House is spacious, open and comfortable. The bedrooms and the common spaces were all comfortable, appealing, well kept.
3. Pool is amazing for a dip any time to cool off.
4. Great views of the cathedral dome from the second floor.
5. Service was better than one could expect. Marvin and Dolly were waiting when we arrived, attentive, and cleaned daily. The owners were also responsive, generous and responded to emails as if they were friends.
6. Bosco, our driver and our guide referred by the owners, was fantastic. He helped plan our itinerary, and gave us lots of local insights, history and personal interest. He's a safe and reliable driver. His English is good but not perfect, and we had no trouble communicating on multiple levels.
We regret only having three nights in Granada before heading off to Ometepe and beyond.
Wonderful and memorable.
Even better than the photos. Loved the house, pool, balconies, view. Enjoyed watching the sunsets and the bats. The daily cleaning was amazing and helpful. We used Bosco for transportation. He's good, although a bit insistent - which is harder for a group of introverts. We always felt safe and secure. Check out the morning yoga at the nearby chocolate mansion. The accompanying "instructions" for the property were great but I would have loved to have a map in the house and/or directions to some of the restaurants. Overall, an incredible property - beautiful with a very responsive and helpful owner. thanks!
