This is one of the oldest and most loved places on Lake Winnipesaukee! It was built by my great grandfather in about 1899, and it still looks exactly the way it did then. The cabin sits on 250 feet of pristine Lake Winnipesaukee waterfront. We have a natural sandy walk-in beach. There is a dock to tie your boat up to and a deck that sits on the lake edge. We face west in a partially secluded cove with fabulous view of the amazing sunsets and mountains.
There is much history in this rustic cabin which you can feel when you walk in. It feels homey and comfortable. We have a big wood fireplace which makes up the heart of the cabin. Many nights even in the summer you will find guests making a fire and sitting in the antique rocking chairs, just to hear the crackle of the fire and feel that old world charm.
We have a 16 foot dock which can be used to tie up boats or fish off of. It also one of the many places to relax and watch the sunsets.

Hi Wendy,We had a FABULOUS time!! Your home on the lake is absolutely charming! We especially loved the family photos and knowing the home had been in your family for 100 years! The views were amazing, The sandy beach and raft so much fun for swimming. You and your brother left great information so we knew everything we could possibly need. The weather was great as well.We did manage to get my mother up there for the day. She sat on the beach near the picnic table, then on the front porch and in the living room. She grew up in a home very much like your lake home, a home with a porch nestled among tall pine trees. She loved being there enjoying her grandkids and looking at the pictures of your family. My 15 year old caught his first fish that day which was quite the event!! I will try to send you some photos soon!We would love to return next summer!Again, thank you for sharing your wonderful home with us!
This is one of the most perfect spots on the lake with over 200 feet of frontage and it's own private beach. We have stayed 3 times and enjoyed the beach, dock, perch and fires by the chiminea at night. There is a store near by if you need anything (extra ice) and also some nice spots in town to go to. We had the opportunity to meet and chat with Bryan on this trip and he filled us in on some of the history of the cabin that we hadn't heard before. Wendy and Bryan are both fantastic to deal with. I'm afraid to tell too many people about this place because I want to make sure that there is always availability for our family. : )
P.S. Don't forget to sign the guest book!
We made a return pilgrimage to Pocumtuck this summer; this time my son and I shared the camp with (at various times during our 2-week stay) my cousin and his family, my aunt & uncle, and my sister and her teen boys. We loved the additions that had been made over the past year -- the railings on the sunset deck, the tree swing, the family history table -- little things that added to the historic, timeless "feel" of the place. The magic was shared by all, and I hope to make this an annual spot for much-needed rest, relaxation and restoration for as long as the Forbes family will allow us to do so!
This place is what you imagine when you think of a lakeside retreat: a winding dirt road through the woods, a homey wood cabin with history in the walls, the sounds of the waves lapping on the shore outside your door. The owners were very accomodating about squeezing us in as a last minute replacement for a cancellation, and very friendly and helpful in our communications throughout. (Though they're so well-versed in renting this out, that there really isn't much need to get in touch once you're there.) You're well out of the way, but it's just a ten minute drive back to the heart of Wolfeboro village. There's a private, sandy crescent beach, with a wade out through a sandy cove, and water clear to the bottom even as you swim out to the platform. You're tucked in a nook midway up the eastern shore of the lake, with sun all afternoon and fantastic sunsets over the water. The kitchen is well supplied, and we cooked lunch and dinner on the grill almost every day. The family history is evident all around inside, with old pictures of the construction, knickknacks, driftwood discoveries and more peppered throughout the house; but you don't feel like an intruder, you feel like a welcome guest.
My family and I have stayed in this cottage twice and it's the perfect spot on the lake. There is a sandy beach, dock, floating dock and hundreds of feet of frontage. The appliances are full size and new and the cottage sleeps 10 comfortably - not that we had that many. It's secluded and gets sun on the beach from 11:00 am to sunset. I am worried that so many of us will tell our friends what a great place it is and it will become much harder to book. : ) Also, the owners are fabulous! Will absolutely go back again.
My teenage son, his friend, and I enjoyed a week at Pocumtuck in June -- we wished we could have stayed longer/forever! This comfortable lake house was perfectly situated in a quiet cove with a wonderful, protected sandy beach area that would be perfect for smaller children. The dock, swimming raft, and deck overlooking the lake were favorite spots, as was the screened sleeping porch. Beautiful sunset views! It is on the "rustic" side, but everything you need for a wonderful vacation is here, in a way that makes you feel like you have stepped back into a quieter, more civilized time. Appliances were new and in excellent working order. We used the wifi but seldom felt the need to tune into the news of the larger world, so happy were we with our little life on the lake. We loved the historical touches throughout the house, which made us feel part of the family and the overall story. A nesting pair of loons and an occasional visit from a murder of crows added to the happy ambience and our contentment. This is a camp that is conducive to lounging, reading, doing puzzles, playing board/card games and doing what people used to do before tv and computers. We didn't want to leave, and we will be back -- hopefully for longer than a week next time!
Prior to booking this lake house, our family researched many other properties. This house had everything we were looking for: walk-in sandy beach, dock for fishing, floating dock for tanning, an outdoor pit for campfires, fireplace for cool mornings and late evenings, porch for overlooking the pristine water, and another deck closer to the lake to view the amazing sunsets. The house could easily accommodate large groups, from the bedrooms to the dining area. You can do as little or as much as you wanted: from relaxing all day to watersports and fishing. The owners were amazing, very accommodating, and made sure that your vacation was comfortable and enjoyable. This was the perfect lake house!!!!!
