We have been neighborhood residents for over 15 years and have not only enjoyed raising a family while seeing a positive transformation of Chicago during that time, but also of the Roscoe Village neighborhood and its amenities. We own and operate two award-winning and acclaimed restaurants here, and realized we had the ideal setting for a bed & breakfast style vacation rental conveniently located right in the heart of our community.
While staying at Sopra Volo (means 'above Volo' in Latin), guests have immediate access to more than a dozen dining options to fit any budget, pretty sidewalk cafes & hidden backyard garden patios, as well as unique independently owned retail shops & boutiques (also a Starbucks on our block housed in a converted former Motorcycle Cafe 'The Ace Cafe').
Within blocks there are family friendly parks, a baseball diamond, public pool, and a park district field house (offering tennis courts & a basketball court), as well as kayaking nearby.
The neighborhood is extremely walk-able, upper-middle class and safe, has seen a wave of renovations over the last decade, and just two blocks away there is a 100+ year old Pencil Factory that has been converted to lofts, with original factory-worker row houses still intact located on adjacent blocks.
Public transportation is easy from Sopra Volo and includes the Damen bus just steps out the front door (a direct 10 minute ride to the heart of Bucktown & Wicker Park), Chicago's famous 'EL' train at the Paulina stop just three blocks away, plus the Belmont or Addison (direct to Wrigley Field- Home of the Cubs) Street Bus just two blocks away.
If you visit us in the summer, Wrigley Field is just a 20 minute walk (about a mile and a half) through residential neighborhoods and tree lined streets, filled with 100 year old plus houses.
Finally, the guest suite is located directly above the acclaimed wine bar, Volo. It is beautifully designed with an urban chic interior and rustic hidden backyard cabana garden in which we from time to time host weddings. Additionally, the unit is located directly across the street from the celebrated casual brunch spot, Kitsch'n on Roscoe. Decked out in colorful 1970's retro dinette sets, and filled with assorted retro and vintage decor, Kitsch'n has been featured in Bon Apetit Magazine and on $40 a Day with Rachel Ray!
Our stay was great. The apartment was big enough for everyone. We were close to all kinds of restaurants, shopping and freeways. The only thing of concern was the washer made a funny loud sound during the spin cycle. When we checked out we noticed some ants on the counter near the sink. Don't know where they were coming from. Overall we enjoyed our stay.😃
My family of 3 stayed here for 4 nights in mid-Chicago. We really enjoyed our stay tremendously. The place was well-stocked, and laid out nicely. While we didn't spend a great deal of time in the unit (we didn't cook meals or just "hang out" there), we noticed it had a great kitchen, and comfortable furniture. Roscoe Village is a great part of town, and we were able to walk to several nice restaurants and coffeehouses. The variety of food in the neighborhood, and just the whole feel of it is a huge plus. We would totally stay here again! Just two caveats: The unit is up a flight of 20 fairly steep or narrow steps, if mobility is an issue. Also, we knew ahead of time it might be on the loud side, just because it is over a wine bar that has music--that part really wasn't bad, as they wind down by 11 or midnight. The front bedroom is at the street, so you can also hear road noise and even people chatting as they walk by--since both bedrooms have the same sized bed, put the fussy sleepers in the back bedroom. All in all, a great time. We met the owner downstairs at the wine bar, and that was delightful as well!
This is my second time renting through Jon and as usual we had a great experience. Rented a car this time and no issues with parking. So many great restaurants, taverns, and boutique shops all within a rocks throw of the unit. There is also a nice Starbucks right down the street within easy walking distance. If you are there for the Cubs game, its an easy and delightful walk to the ballpark. The unit itself was very comfortable with all of the amenities you will ever need. We will be coming back!
We came for a family vacation in Chicago and discovered this little gem. It was perfect for our family of 4. The beds were comfy and the "futon style" sofa was perfect for our 18 year old son. The condo is in a great location on a quaint street with fun atmosphere. It had everything we needec. I am a picky customer and had no complaints. I would definitely recommend this condo to others and when we return to Chicago, would want to stay here again.
If you want a great place in a great neighborhood this unit is perfect. Three friends and I had plenty of space and no issues whatsoever. Thank you Jon!
The stay here was everything I wanted and much more! The apartment slept 6 comfortably and could have slept even more! The apartment was cute and cozy, kitchen was furnished with everything you could possibly need. The owner was on site in the wine bar Volo downstairs and was so nice making sure we were comfortable and let us know not to hesitate if we needed anything.
There was also gift cards to both Volo wine bar and Kitsch'n which were both right downstairs . Volo wine bar we went and had a round of drinks and wish we had time to try their menu definitely going to go back and try. Kitsch'n we went for hangover brunch and they have the biggest Mimosa's and best Chicken and Waffles with a honey jalapeño butter ( I wanted to take the butter home in my purse haha!)
All in all a must stay ! Also going to go back to eat at both restaurants!!!
The unit is located within an enjoyable 15-20 minute walk through safe residential neighborhoods to Wrigley Field (easy public transportation is able easily accessible both to Wrigley and downtown). We are blocks away from northside music venues including Shubas & The Beat Kitchen, and an easy taxi/bus/train to The Vic and The Riviera.
Roscoe Village is one of Chicago's premier residential neighborhoods often referred to as 'A village within the city' and features dozens of restaurants, bars, shops, boutiques, sidewak cafes, shopping, and family-friendly parks.
During the summer months, inexpensive kayak & canoeing rentals are easily accessible on the North Branch of the Chicago River via Clark Park less than a mile from the unit, and Chicago's Bike Share Program 'Divvy' has a location within a 1/2 block.
